Lithuanians like German cars, armored too. Cheers.
Not really. way more japanese cars
Possible reason for why we picked LEOs over tanks: newer "technologies" like higher gen thermals and rounds like the DM73, getting spare parts might also be easier since Germany is close by, also the Leopard is more fuel efficient than something like an Abrams. Just speculation also these aren't very big reasons so I'm interested to know the real reasons.
They are great tanks, but I think the main reason was of mutual interest/agreement. Germans bring their brigade to Lithuania, Lithuania invests and buys German gear.
Another reason is that there's already a repair hub for Leopard tanks in Lithuania.
Leo 2A8 doesn't exist yet. And if you want to learn about how reliable the Germans are with providing spare parts for Leos, ask the Poles.
@@vincentascapskis9139 no there isn't. There is a low level maintenance hub for Phz2000, that is it.
@@vincentascapskis9139 plus pz 2000 howitzers and german apc's we already have.
Well done. Keep strong. We all know who we are against with nowadays...
Thank you so much for these videos and the constant upload rate. I'm currently doing my masters degree in international relations and security/defence in my home country and after that I want to emigrate to Finland, Estonia or Lithuania. Your videos are helping me make a future informed decision. God bless you :)
Thanks for another excellent video. This is good news for Lithuania and, in my opinion, long overdue. Lithuania made some very poor choices in the past when it came to defence financing, so I'm happy it is at least trying to remediate that. As for tanks being better than other tanks, there really isn't all that much of a difference. And much depends not on the tank itself, but on the context in which it will be used. In Lithuania's case Leopard 2A8 is indeed the best tank. A modern Western/Korean/Japanese tank is a modern tank and they are more or less as good as each other on paper, all use same or very similar ammunition, protection systems and tech. Leopard 2A8 is the newest iteration of Leopard 2 which, I believe, isn't in use anywhere yet (2A7 is). Since the German brigade will be stationed in Lithuania and, it seems, Lithuania is comfortable with tying its long term future with Germany, it makes perfect sense to buy German and not Korean or American tanks. Also, it should make sense in terms of logistics, spare part deliveries, training etc, since Germany is simply much closer than all other manufacturers of that kind of equipment.
Will be is the right term. So when the brigade will be stationed in Lithuania? Mid 30s or 40s?
@@youtubeisdeletingourcomments Fully deployed in 2027, but the process is already underway.
The different LEO 2s have a lot in common, it sounds a bit like you think the different versions are different tanks.
I’m just aware that some military enthusiasts (just like auto or aviation enthusiasts) could get annoyed if you show one thing while talking about something different.
I don’t know if there is a noticeable difference between the 2A7 and 2A8

It always boils my blood when I see Zuokas referring to a BTR (APC) as a tank.
Danke Deutch aus Litauen.
Wie dumm von dir.
Kiedy dostawy? I 950 milionow euro? Co oni robia go ze zlota?
because it's not jus tanks but amunition and full service as well.
@@samazaswe bought Abrams with the spare stock up to the sky and it is 2 times cheaper then your tanks
The worst purchase of military equipment that Lithuania has made in a long time, this purchase is purely diplomatic, there is no strategic thinking in it, let alone economic thinking.
It would be better for Lithuania if it went for Abrams or K2, because by the time the spare parts for the Leopards reach Lithuania, only dust will be left of these tanks.
Leo 2, Boxer, m113 and CV 90, it seems Lithuania is going for the Ukraine special, everything, just in small quantities to keep the pesky mantainers on their toes, at least Ukraine has an excuse, what's Lithuania's? I know the Baltics are extremely reluctant to lose any bit of soverignity for historical readson, but i wonder if they'd be better served by doing joint purchases to keep interchangeability, servicing and training efficient while keeping purchase costs low, or at least do so on their navy and air force given that those are services of tertiary importance,
Now Himars, and start investing localy into military industry
We have 8 Himars systems on order from the US.
@crabLT I'm thinking more like a 100 systems. That would be 600 rockets every 10-15 minutes.
Are these videos about the military an interest of yours, or are they suggestions from your sponsor or surrounding?
I‘m also wondering why there are so many (detailed) military videos
My guess:
1. Some of these videos get a lot of views
2. Military topics are popular in Lithuanian media
He said in earlier videos that he is interested in military.
People seem to be interested in Lithuania’s military, defence, and geopolitical situation. I try to cover a wide variety of things and avoid doing too much military, but if you look at the view counts of anything in this category, they are higher than other videos on this channel.
And also, at the moment, there is a lot of news about new defence purchases and new equipment.
In such a small, 3 million country, the purchase of 44 newest tanks is the top news bro. Just saying.
I feel like AA would be a better investment
Leopards were choosen only because they're cheaper and because of the brigade and german investemns into Lithuania. we don't have enough money, and the line is big and gets bigger. we are promised to get tanks in 2028, then alr alr you guys will 100% get tanks in 2030, Tanks will come 2032 and then the same thing again and again.
K2 would be better since they are made to destroy soviet/russian tanks. Also it is one of the most technologial tanks in the world. It has good armor. And also don't have such a big line, but costs more. Also, south Korea has bigger manufactoring power than the EU, and that's because koreans know what is like to live near psychopath with a weapon waiting when you will put off your vest and helmet and put away weapon.
If you compare the Czech deal for leopard 2a8 and Polish newest Abrams you will find out Abrams are 2 times cheaper and the delivery times are 4 times shorter. So yeah you have chosen poorly
👍👍👍LT
Maybe just buy multiple drones..
why buy them if Lithuania started to making drones domestically?
Wow, imagine not buying expensive toys, that can be destroyed by few drones for 1000 bucks, and lowering tax rates, increasing minimal income etc.
Emagine having a normal country, not a petrol station bully
I'm sure tax rates will be kept low under the "benevolent rule" of Tsar Putin

Dovilė raus Laurynas back. We are nearly at war.
2 bilion for 44 tanks is a joke price, joke delivery dates… romania somehow decided to buy 54 abrams for 1 bilion (with all amunitions and stuff)
quick google search proved youre wrong and spreading false news to others. Citation from the deal youre talking: " The sale of the tanks, ammunition, and training simulators was estimated by the ministry at $1.07 billion, but Congress was notified of a higher value -- $2.5 billion -- by the DSCA. The reason for the difference in price was not immediately clear."
2,53 billion for the abrams.
250 000 000 fot Abrams. Stop to lie. Are you russians?
@@darijusk It’s 2,5 Billion and not 250 million, but as mentioned it’s in both cases a bit more than just the bare Tanks.
@@patrick3426but Poland bought 250 Abrams for 4.7 bln $. 6 times more tanks and munitions for 2.5 more money.
And Poland by suwalki Gap
Extremely expensive tanks but first of all ,delivery times are absolute joke. Strange choice, clearly political. Will it pay off?
There are a lot of leo2a8 orders from other countries. I wonder if they will even manage in time (2030)
@@martaxsasLT Knowing how slow and bureaucratic Germans are, I doubt it.
@@crabLT it's not bureaucracy. Builimg such a complicated tank is...well... complicated and takes time
@@martaxsasLT Tell that to the South Koreans who can produce way more tanks in a much shorter time span. Their tanks are also just as sophisticated as the Germans are.
@@crabLT Korean industry hasn't been neglected like the European one.
Lol, Poland will receive nearly 600 new tanks from the USA and Korea before Lithuania sees any of those 44 Leos. Fingers crossed, the delivery will come, unlike the German brigade that was supposed to be stationed in Lithuania and is nowhere to be seen. My Lithuanian friends, you are not choosing your leading security partner wisely. Germans will always put good relations with russia over our CEE home.
Well of course the brigade is nowhere to be seen, we still havent built the Infrastructure for it lol
Poland may be fine running a non-standard tank fleet with their huge numbers, but for smaller European countries, it's important to select same tank as most other European partners. KMW is on track with the Leopard 2A8 deliveries, they somehow already started with deliveries to Norway, that's 1-2 years ahead of plan.
Poland wanted tanks ASAP, then the K2 Black Panther and M1A2 Abrams was the fastest path to reach that goal.
It seems you have really problems with Germany. Most Germans have realized that past Russia policy was a mistake
Overpriced
Probably not an independent decision but an order from Nato/EU armament business
This aint America, Europe doesnt have a military industrial complex that can order politicians around like the US does.
What a waste of money.. in the drone war era..
Best investment ...strong countries getting rid tanks ....and poor countries forced to buy ...investigations should be opened in this ..today in drone wars Tanks only easy target ...to destroy tank cost 3000to150000eu ...ukraine is proof that tanks is past
You know why drones are so effective in Ukraine? Because frontlines are static and most importantly, there is NO air supremacy, thats why both sides rely so much on drones. War with NATO, would look different. Drones would play a role, but not as much. How you gonna push enemy out? With heavy equipment and air support from above.
Countries was getting rid of tanks only because they fought insurgents for decades. But when you have formidable enemy with all fancy equipment, then heavy brigades are irreplaceable.
@@Mnts-d7m And what if you run out of those airplanes then we lose on the ground?
@@fuzer4047 I hardly imagine scenario where NATO is running out of jets, they are too high-tech, and in great numbers
Leopards are much more expensive than american Abrams. And they are also manufactured slower. Sorry but Lithbros made a bad deal.
It is a politically motivated procurement, but once afd will win elections in germany, we will be left with just big liability to lay germans fot tanks which can be destroyed by several 500 usd drones and without promised german brigade here😢
Afd will not win

the russians doesn't exists anymore, that's putlerofilic herd today. Putler kaput.
how many tanks did russia lose already? 9000+ where almost every time the crew died. ukraine lost a couple of leopards with all crew safe. wtf you stupid russians are smoking?
pointless, nothing learned from Ukraine, russia would demolish these tanks within weeks, it would be much smarter investing those funds on developing drone units, proper operators and factories to make fpv.
Stupidness for 2billions
Just a very bad decision... Wasting money instead of developing drone warfare doctrine...
The drone monomania strikes again.
Over fifty years people are speculating about the "death of a tank" and it never happens. The reality is that you can't hold ground with a drone. And Ukraine shows it well, if drones work so well, why are russians asking for help from North Korea? You need boots on the ground and heavy metal to defend land.
We invest quite a lot into drone warfare as well. Drone operator courses, investment into Lithuanian drone manufacturers - 5 of those have already made deals with the Ukrainian government, units are receiving drones.
If we are talking about those small DJI grenade dropping ones, Lithuanian Armed Forces won't be officially buying them as they are chinese made, but I am pretty sure a lot is being done now behind the curtain to develop our own.
Lithuania has already multiple new drone manufacturers that are creating drones. We also already have the Sky Wipers (don’t remember the technical name) which can take care of drones.
Tanks are and for the forseeable future woll be the backbone of modern warfare. Drones are support.
Good luck with that. They’ll get 5 in 15 years.
