Incredible. They make everyone else sound like amateurs.
And am I imagining this? They seem also to be REDEFINING SCHUBERT as they go! Just astonishing.
(So far I've heard them play no. 14 and no. 15. Looking forward to hearing them play no. 13 my long-time favorite.)
What an enchanting performance - wonderful! It's no wonder that the Esme Quartet won the 14th Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition. What playing!
I am sure Franz should have liked that we nowadays can sit at home and enjoy his music this way. He was a man for the future. Sorry that he died so early. Imagine he lived to his 70:th or 80:th birthday . What music we then would have had! This wonderful string quartet is an example of his star quality. Esmé Quartet makes the best of it. Thank you!

Spellbinding. And excellently recorded. I have never heard it like this; quite overwhelmed.
Ich bin 17 und bin seit 8 Monaten in der Klassik und war bis vor 2 Wochen nur bei Klavierstücken aber jetzt mit lacrimosa und dem Stück, was ich neu entdeckt habe, habe ich auch angefangen eine Liebe zu Geigenstücken oder Orchesterstücken zu empfinden. Und es war einfach nur wundervoll. Lieblingsstelle mit extrem großem Abstand: 26:08

Amazing musicians. Had the honor of listening to them in person (minus the violist) in March. Played Borodin, Ligeti, Tchaikovsky.

„Der Tod und das Mädchen“ ist wahrscheinlich mein Lieblingskammermusikwerk von Schubert. Das Trout-Quintett liegt jedoch knapp dahinter 🙂

I love both this music and the Esmé Quartet. I know their old recording of this masterpiece, but I wasn’t aware of this new upload. This recording has a more natural tone, allowing us to fully appreciate their symphonic performance. Thank you!!!

これは今まで聴いた最高の死と乙女だ。細かいニュアンスの付け方が1音ごとに練られてて音楽の表現のダイナミクスが大きく1秒たりとつまらない表現が見当たらない。1stVnのヴィブラートが非常に的確で美しい。

It's definitely faster than I'm used to taking it, but their interpretation is so well-done otherwise that I don't mind
