Thank you for showing the failure, you demonstrate your integrity 👍
The modules should be able to mate and unmate from the backplane at least 100,000 times for enterprise grade equipment.

I have done the active passive failover with two of their systems before, it was good. I would seriously consider using this on my next opportunity.

I like the idea of a Synology SAN NAS.

Hey Tom, do you think it would be worth your time to take a look at the successor to this SA3200? The UC3200.
Its an active-active iSCSI and FC NAS.

Ate the PSU bound to the CPU modules or do they power both in parallel?

sa3200d is not bad, we just have to understand for what level of use it is required to have, sa3200d, it avoids us having 2 rs3618xs in SHA mode, but being active / passive, it can only work well for us, to always have a file server available whatever Whatever, if you need a storage server that is active / active, you have to think about a SAN or a QNAP Enterprise dual controller ES1640DC for example.

If you want to go enterprise, skip synology and QNAP, go with NetApp

Synology shines with its DSM. But you could have explained about BTRFS [ Used in Synology ] . BTRFS reviews available on internet does not give confidence to use in production, it seems that RAID 5 / RAID 6 is unstable. How about snapshots and restoring snapshots on BTRFS as compared with ZFS ? I have used Synology products but except their excellent OS, rest is pretty ordinary. The apps available on DSM are very well tested and honestly there is no match. DSM with ZFS could have been excellent storage product. I also have a question how DSM can manage with relatively weak CPU / low RAM as compared with TrueNAS/FreeNAS. May be in next video you can throw your expert opinion on this.

as far as I'm aware synology doesn't use btrfs directly for disk management, only as a filesystem on top of LVM/MDADM, so the problems with RAID 5/6 due to btrfs aren't a problem.

When you setup static ip on a dhcp subnet, is it not good to reduce the number of hosts of the dhcp, so that those static ones are not in the pool

Have they sorted there iSCSI issues that plagued previous devices. I beleive their SAN device doesnt have any major issues

I would use used server. Soft raid with SSD cashing, 256gb RAM and 2x10 gigabit LAN or infiniband.

I have Synology DS1512+ NAS, is there any expansion unit available for it?
Ideally I'm looking for a SAS Expansion Unit, any possibility?
Can you recommend a SAS NAS Unit?

Looks cool but I’m not going to pay 7.000.00 for it with out drives when I can make a Free NAS for about $400.00 with out drives

They key is the full support. But I do agree that the specs are pretty weak for $7,000.

Nobody ever got fired for buying a the name brand with full support, roll your own and be on the hook for every hiccup or failure.
