    I literally could watch these videos all day. It must be what girls feel when watching the Bachelor.

    Hello,
    Great video 👍.
    Around 10:30 it shows the restore options.
    Is it possible to restore to a different user account?
    And by the way, quid of a deleted user? Will backups (mails, documents, contacts) of a deleted user account will still be available and restorable?
    Thanks.

      After testing, answering to myself: yes and yes.

    Great video, but I want to know more, how an end user can actually do self service restore? The video demo is using a admin account to restore. Do we need to create a user with Microsoft account in the NAS? SSO login ? It will be great if you can go into that detail.

      @mathews-e5418 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you have to create a user account on the NAS, and then you enable to 'Portal' for that user / group of users so they have access to it. Making SSO work is quite involved (last time i checked).

    Thank you for this! Ironically, we are looking for a backup source. Since now we know this is a thing, I've set it up. Might even order a separate synology just for o365 backups.

    Great video as always from Tom! It's unbelievable that this is not supported in Synology RS819 nas...

    Thank you so much for sharing that! This Synology backup solution is great!
    I don't have Office 365, but I have some GSuite and maybe it is more worthwhile to hire Synology than to hire some backup tool for GSuite and still have to mount a storage for the data.

    I remember you guys use G Suite as the email provider for your company. How do you guys backup and recover emails?

    When I clock add a task the web login box does not come up. It instead asks for all this azure AD information and a certificate. Can you do a followup on this and(or) ask Synology why it would be so difficult to connect now?

      yeah, it's changed a bit now for O365!! See: www.synology.com/en-uk/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/Backup/How_to_register_an_Azure_AD_app#t1_Global which walks you through the process

    We just purchased a RS1619xs+ to backup our Office 365 data as a quick fix until we can budget for Veeam or Rubrik.

      Funny...I got a DS1621+ to test Backup for Office 365 due to major throttling issues trying to capture SharePoint backups with Veeam.

    @Lawrence Systems Do you know which are the cheapest model (or few models) Synology offers that actually supports Active Backup? We have a couple of the smaller units that dont support Active Backup for O365. Thx in advance.

    @Lawrence Systems, how do you determine how much NAS HHDs do you need to backup your entire O365?

    GSuite has unlimited email storage of deleted emails with google vault. As a local backup i have a local thumderbird that just gets all emails with pop3

    • @andrewjohnston359
      @andrewjohnston359 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only on the business version not basic. Also It doesn't protect against emails of a deleted user...you have to switch that user to an archive license. Also restore of bulk documents or entire folders in drive is not a simple task compared to a dedicated cloud backup solution

    Is it possible to setup 'active backup' when MFA is enable on all users in the company tenant? :-) Awesome video btw. Love your work

    • @UrielPix
      @UrielPix 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      With a static public IP it's possible possible, where no MFA requests will come when signing from a specific IP

      Create an app specific password

      I haven't read it in detail but I think it uses an API and not a login. Because it has the ability to automatically add new GSuite users in the backup (as far as I have read/know). So MFA has no influence.

    How many sites you can backup?

  • @jasonluong3862
    @jasonluong3862 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don’t understand the need for this local backup. Office 365 and GSuite are basically enterprise accounts where you pay Microsoft and Google, respectively, to use it. As such, part of the package and contract, in addition to guarantee up time, is they back up the data for you. So when disaster strikes, whatever the type, there is a back up to recover from. Moreover it is unlikely that these companies will go out of business. I can understand the need for a local backup of these cloud services when there is a dispute with them. As such, you don’t want them to hold your data and any backup hostage. So other than this reason, why need to have a local back up of Office 365 and GSuite?

      Microsoft does not back your data up. we have lost some in the past, We use acronis msp cloud to backup our office 365/gsuite customers as we found the synology backups to be a little unreliable

    It looks great on the surface, but in practice It’s garbage and constantly fails with ambiguous or non-sensical errors. Tried it with many clients and gave up and moved to Altaro

      @@skylinegt6 QuickBooks requires the use of their "QuickBooks Database Manager" in order to run in multi-user mode. This is only available for a Windows host. It is a terrible solution, but it is the only solution.
