I feel your excitement about the ride. I love my roadster V2 I changed out the tires to 32s after first 300 miles cause I mainly ride gravel trails. Added redshift suspension stem up front and seat post. I am 68 years old but on this bike I swear I am only 27.
Was going to get the gravel edition of this bike but now that I saw you put bigger tires on the roadster v2, I'm going to use your link and get one! Appreciate the video!
Thanks for the review! I used to ride a Trek Earl daily in the GTA year round and loved it for its simplicity. The more bikes I rode, the more I found myself remembering what I wished for then: a simple frame + single speed belt drive + electric assist. I'm just kind of getting back into things now, imagine my surprise seeing this. Reading the comments & seeing all the positive feedback is great as well. Now that I live in an area with many more hills and much better cycling infrastructure I think I might try to figure a shorter gear from day 1… Ideally I figure out a solution (anyone mess around with the drive system?) before winter hits or V3 comes out soon and takes the $ out of my pocket with a solid design. The Roadster is, what, +10 lbs and ~$500 more than I remember paying for the Earl? that's a pretty great deal imho and kind of a no brainer
This video cracked me up with your input while doing the single track section. Awesome feedback and input on this. Glad you put this to abuse and true test of ebike. Interesting concept bike in general.
I would love to get the Roadster V2, but at 5’6” I think I’d have trouble getting on and off the bike. As you said, designing the top tube down some would definitely help. Thanks for a great video.
Definitely like the looks of this E-bike. Short on distance, even if you were hammering it on trails and paths it wasn't intended for. I would guess that it might make it 35-40 miles on smooth surfaces
Yes! sloping tube / compact geometry please for Version 3. I knew I wasn't alone in thinking this about this bike's geometry! The powers that be @ride1up, please be watching the video and reading the comments.🙏
Love the new bike! I have been looking for you around the city since last August. Was already a regular viewer for a few years and then my wife got a PhD fellowship at Dal and we got a house in Dartmouth. I think I finally saw you yesterday (May 27) on your Cinelli on the bike path at the edge of Barrington and Upper Water. Not 100% but same black helmet and Cinelli Vigorelli, feels like a good bet. Anyway, just wanted to let you know and pumped things are growing. Hope to see you around sometime!
You gotta get a 55T chainring with the 22T rear. I have the gravel edition which uses a Gates drive, and Gates sells various chainrings, cogs and belts. I also run Challenger Gravel Grinders 700 x 38's. I think everyone ends up with a 120mm stem... I did!
Cool road test ! I like the stealthyness of the bike. I have a conversion I added to my old mountain bike that has really helped me to ride farther and longer than before. I live in a hilly area and I would bonk out too quickly before the conversion. Also I can ride with more fit groups and not hold them back. My kit ( hilltopper) has a throttle so if I'm feeling good I don't use the electric motor at all on the trail till I'm ready to head home. One more unexpected benefit; I crashed on the trail and it knocked the wind out of me and bruised my thigh.I was able to use the throttle and electric motor to do most of the work for me and was able to get home safely without telling my wife.😄
Noel, you use your ebike in exactly the way as me, or so it seems, as I have a throttle-only set up, which gives complete control over how much power you're using at any given moment, from zero to full and everywhere between; even then, I only use it when I need it - big hills and headwinds, but sometimes barely at all, while pedalling all the while (unless I'm feeling very lazy, which I do from time to time - so what?). Thus I can go for many more miles, over worse terrain, than I could otherwise. I'm a fit-ish 60yo. And Eric's idea it should have a slopier crossbar - that was my idea first - it's what I've got - albeit with a visible battery (but, so what?).
Awesome video. I just ordered the Gravel Edition of this bike, but unfortunately it won’t ship until September. I would like to get wider bars, so can you please tell me the width of the bars you are running. Thanks, and keep the cool videos coming.
Looks cool, kinda regret buying a chunky e bike as the only trail near me doesn't allow motor vehicles and it would stick out like a sore thumb if I took it there so as a result it doesn't really get ridden. Think I'd enjoy a bike like yours a lot more if it was class 1 or 2
Uhhhh... You do know Ride1Up makes a gravel edition with all these cahnges and disc brakes already done for you? 😁 Snark aside, fun video! I love my V2 but went a different way with it. Carbon Skinny flat bars, upgraded mid reach Tektro brakes, Kool stop pads, SDG Radar flat saddle, Conti GP5000s. Use the assist controller like a 5 speed and you can really roll! Please try it drop bar and lighter crankset to be my guinea pig!
I dropped 5 pounds from my KBO Hurricane 37.7 pounds with lighter front wheel & tire, carbon fiber fork & integrated drop bars, then a thomson elite seatpost & light weight saddle. Am still wanting to upgrade the frame to carbon fiber to lose some real weight. I would also like to change out the cadence sensor for a Torque sensor. What an improvement with the carbon fiber fork & drop bar arrangement, all road buzz disappeared in my neck and shoulders replacing alloy fork and flat mountain bars. Am still looking at the sold out Gravel Ride1up version only thing I am disappointed about is they did not change cadence sensor to a Torque sensor that would have made the gravel version an almost perfect eBike...
Great video. Were you riding a 58" (large) frame or 52" (small) frame? Do mind sharing your in-seam length? I am 5'11" with 32" in-seam. I am having trouble deciding whether to choose 52" or 58" frame. I am afraid the seat on the 58 frame may not go low enough or I have enough standover clearance. Thanks.
This bike is a cool bike. Generally, ebikes are bad. But this? I’m down with it. Thanks for wearing the shirt. Excited to see the long ride to your parents place!
Just to be clear, I can fit the 32c panaracer gravelking tires on my roadster V2 with no clearance issues? I bought my roadster used and the previous owner put small 25c specialized armadillo tires. The road ways can be pretty rough here and it’s giving my arms quite a beating
I think there a place for a low-key lighter powered pedal-assisted ebike that been jacked with gravel tires. Such a thing is far less impactful than fully motorized quad-bikes or dirt dirt bikes. Most of the bike trails around here are crushed gravel at best.
where's the cross over : hardcore ,poppunk/easycore show. you look suited and booted to get low in da pit!. bike looks nice , i want to try out an E-bike one of these days. i went on a 50mile ride last sunday on my fixed. and a few people at various points when i was in napa going both directions in/out of the city. people were zooming by me on their e-bikes haha.
Great demo. Would have been better if you had done the ride with the stock tires and stem. The bike is pretty rugged and was able to take the challenge. I am looking purchasing my first E Bike and this belt drive idea looks much more promising than the old chain version.
I can get a parts list from the site... keep doing real world assessments.... also , i wish all e-bikes looked stealth and weren't as heavy... i think a lot of people who ride them wish they were "nicer" like this one.
@@brianwalker9793 I added the 2nd ride 1 up battery to the frame below the seat and doubled the mileage. After fist 300 miles looks were not as important as adding miles and not having battery anxiety.
@@michaellangello3522 Good to hear! Curious how the extra weight 'feels' while riding? I always wondered if you would also get a little more torque on takeoff. And do you backpack the extra battery and then slap it in when first one is dry.
Is this the perfect commuter ebike?? I’m pretty sure any other, more conspicuous ebike would get swiped in an instant in my city (which is the main reason why I don’t use one), but this? It might actually work.
I’m not normally a fan of e-bikes, but this bike looks like a lot of fun, my issue with e-bikes are that I feel I would get to comfortable with having a motor, I feel I would become lazy and use the motor more than needed, but that being said if I were to get an e-bike this style of bike would definitely be the one. It looks like a normal bike with belt drive and internal geared hub. I do wish e-bikes could have 100km range.
there are tonnes out there that can give you that range (They just don't look as smooth as this one)... also , you can set up the peddle assist with some brands so it would never allow abuse... i.e. your max level only helps 25% or whatever.
I'm now going to consider the fact that my TrasherBash bike may fall apart while riding an "additional level of excitement" 🤣 Also, this Roadster was surprisingly cheaper than I thought it would be for what it is.
I feel your excitement about the ride. I love my roadster V2
I changed out the tires to 32s after first 300 miles cause I mainly ride gravel trails. Added redshift suspension stem up front and seat post. I am 68 years old but on this bike I swear I am only 27.
I like the look of the square geometry, keeps the fixed gear aesthetic. Also with the hub motor kind of looks like a chub hub from back in the day.
WHAT?!??
This is awesome dude.
I love my Roadster V2... I put bullhorn bars on mine and some old school reverse brake levers.
Thanks for posting this🤘
I love how much the look changed after fixing the tires and the handle bars.
J’adore quand tu parles français dans tes vidéos ! A true canadian 🇨🇦

lmao i love how some nice bars, stem, pedals and tires made the bike look like 100x cooler
U hit the nail on the head. The changes are awesome. Fix the frame!
that looks like a fun commuter to hit some gravel on the way to/back from work !
Looks so much better with the new setup too !
The new Spindatt credo: "Take it places it's not designed to go to, it's here, its with me, and that's what we're doing." 👍🏻
This is awesome. Definitely going to try save up to get one!

Awesome! E-bikes can be FUN!
Hi did you ever find any solution to make the resistance a little easier when off?
One of the "better" E Bike videos... I get the feeling that most people who ride e bikes don't actually like bikes at all.
Definitely like the looks of this E-bike. Short on distance, even if you were hammering it on trails and paths it wasn't intended for. I would guess that it might make it 35-40 miles on smooth surfaces
It really all depends upon how heavily you pedal compared to the assist.
sick post! I love this ebike and I got it too. so glad you took it on a gnarly ride. boom 💥
Oh sick, i have a 90’s mtb and just got the roadster for commutes with plans to take it 50+ miles between cities
Just simple handlebar change and a longer stem makes this bike look Soo much better
Awesome looking tires.... with a few minimal upgrades, you changed thel look a lot

100% agree. The 52cm has a remarkably high standover height for a “small” bike. Fingers crossed 🤞

Great review! I just picked one up and was curious about the replacement tires… what brand and size did you use?
I’m considering this bike and I was wondering about it’s capability on gravel. Well done!
That did look like fun; except for the flat.
Any suggestions to make it ride smoother. It feels a bit heavy when riding with the battery off in comparison to my old school Raleigh road bike.
Would totally commute with an ebike like that one!

great review! How does the belt drive hold up in gravel?
I love your channel! I don't know if you respond or remember, but did you need to buy new tubes ? I bought the same tires for the same Ride1up.
What are your thoughts on the V3?
They sell A V2 gravel edition. It is geared differently and comes with gravel tires.

What grips are those they match the tires perfectly
How does it work? Where does the battery live? What sorcery is this!?
