+Robloxian456 well, nintendo's first president was born in 1859, so essentially they're saying Iwata has been here since the beginning, and though his time wasn't as long as it could have been, his legacy lives on.
It's been 16 years since you uploaded this arrangement and I continue to return occasionally year after year. It's simply magnificent, closing your eyes... letting yourself go and the memories come by themselves. Many events have happened throughout life, good and sad. But that's life, right? Life continues and brings us new experiences. This song tells all of this very well. Thank you very much for keeping this video alive, it is part of my life and I will continue to return from time to time. Again, I am very grateful, thank you.
This song this version especially makes me feel like I have completed a grand adventure through thick and thin meeting friends and defeating enemies then saying tearful goodbyes to our fellow adventurers and going back home . Just the song alone makes me feel like I really was on that grand adventure and now I'm thinking back on it and remembering my adventure and being proud of my triumphs but missing it I LOVE THIS SONG it's happy and sad ( henceforth named smiles and tears ) but also just a sense of adventure and victory
rest in peace Satoru Iwata.... thank you for the amazing games and great memories... you were one of the last people to really keep that old idea of what gaming was about alive... and in a time where EAs, Freemium Games, SJWs, and so many other things run rampant, you kept Nintendo the company it always was, and ran it as better than anyone could... you gave us HAL laboratories, mother, and other such games... and your memory will live on for generations... may God's love be with you and may your soul rest in eternal peace... thanks for playing...
Grown-ups have done so much more stuff than me There's many things that I still want to see Now I take my backpack to the world and fill it with memories My favorite base-ball cap rests on my head My worn out sneakers, faded white and red My own guitar pick, shiny and clear Safe in my pocket, right here Though sometimes I got sad and almost cried You were right there with me, by my side I knew we were friends to the core But maybe it was something more Together we walked that road for so long We laughed, we played, we got hurt, we grew strong When taking short-cuts, and getting lost I learned what I’d known all along That even if you can’t put faith in those Who you meet, and lose, and love, and hug Over-all, you just can't give up Believing in your friends And just by being there, you've woken me Just by being who you’d always be Now I see, you helped me to know The stronger, happier me Because Like a gentle breeze, through the grass and the pine trees You always wore a smile Now we, who shared our Smiles and Tears... ...I miss you... We two are now far apart.
This is what Iwata-San was hearing before passing out... Rest in peace Satoru Iwata, you were the best president Nintendo could ever have. Your legacy will live on. "On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer." A legend of gaming has risen to the sky... Satoru Iwata 1959-2015. R.I.P.
I appreciate your amazing performance. It's beautiful in a more absolute sense, and assisted me in helping a friend of mine see that video game music can be emotional.
As I listened to this peice, one phrase always kept on coming in my head; When Life is full of sunshine and dew or when it's storms are crashing into you remember this one thing that I know through Smiles and Tears love will grow this is one of the most truest things that ever came up in my head, through all of your trials that your going through..remember that there's someone out there who still loves you and they'll always be there to love you and miss you when you're away from them
That was beautiful, wonderful presentation of skill and grace from a piece of music that brings back fond memories of my youth. Hearing that makes me wish I invested in a piano instead of my guitar collection.
man, who in the world could dislike such an extraordinary piece of music??? I just got to say man, this piece is absolutely beautiful, and you have made it much more sensational, and for that, i applaud you.
Okay guys, seriously stop with the Iwata comments. He was an amazing person and will be remembered. But it's's been a year now; are we going to cry all our lives about his passing? Let's just listen to the great music.
some people know it as mother 2 some as earthbound but we all know it as not art, not an icon but true happieness and fun what every kid should have in his life
exactly what i was looking for!! this is like a hundred times better than the original arrangement of smiles and tears, if not the best!!! you, sir, are amazing!
4 friends an adventure and a treasured memory for those who experienced that adventure with them. I've never completed 3 but Mother 2 holds such a special place in my heart, SNES games were something very special (Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Final Fantasy IV and VI, F-Zero, Chrono Trigger and many others) sure the shiny graphics now make the worlds prettier but there was something magical about that time with those games)
am i the only one that tears up while listening to this song, every time? not just this awesome piano version either. its not like bawwling but I get two immense tears in my eyes everytime
Loafies Don't worry! God WILL take good care of Mr Iwata. Why wouldn't he? Only an evil idiot wouldn't put Mr Iwata in Heaven. And our father has mercy.
ilostatsolitare, I didn't hear anything at 2:31 and even if he did mess up, SO WHAT!? He's playing this for FREE it's not like you paid anything. Thank you for taking you time out to play this beautiful song on your piano. I appreciate it.
There should really be 0 dislikes on this video. This is piano music at its finest. I loved this game so much and I've recently become a fan of the series just like that. This game is really special and I'll never forget it.
I don't own a Wii U and I don't own my own computer. I know it is legal if it has been released in the country, but because I share a computer it is just is dream. I will ask, but I know that it won't turn out well for me.
When the day comes, and I know it will, that Nintendo of America finally does the right thing and rereleases Mother 2/Earthbound for virtual console in North America, I will be playing this song with smiles. Smiles and tears forever more that I lived to see the day Nintendo finally fully appreciated the Earthbound/Mother series enough to give it the love and respect it deserves.
I've played this on a virtual piano app, but it does not even get close to comparing to this. I only did the first verse too XD. Also the people who disliked this have no human feelings at all...how can you get no emotional change from this piece?
Satoru Iwata 岩田 聡 was a true inspiration to the game industry and a great leader Nintendo 公式チャンネル May he leave us with luck to the heavens #ThankYouIwata #RIPIwata
I never finished this game and its not because I lost interest. I love the game and I call it my favorite game. I feel bad I couldn't finish it. I got stick in the desert. I dont know if it's wright for me to call it my fav. but whatever.
Jack Patterson No its not like that. I literally can not beat it, I'm just not good at RPGs. I've gotten to that point twice. I don't want to use cheats because, well that's wrong. I had to watch other people play it but I still love this game.
you barely even experienced the game.. go wander around and figure out what needs to be done for you to progress like i did when the game was first released back in the 90's. You owe it to yourself.
I loved Earthbound but Mother 1 was too difficult without the Easy Ring that Tomato made. If you ever play Mother 1 play the one with the Easy Ring. It's still an amazing experience, like Earthbound.
"On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer."
Satoru Iwata 1959 - 2015
Da Player 1858? Goddamn, he looked good for his age.
esurlaw I'm pretty sure he meant 1959.
+Robloxian456 well, nintendo's first president was born in 1859, so essentially they're saying Iwata has been here since the beginning, and though his time wasn't as long as it could have been, his legacy lives on.

"No crying until the end." I'm so glad this is the last song...
* cough * Mother 3 * cough *
Wrong game your referring to, but it is still such an incredible and moving piece
The last song is actually Memory of Life.
I learnt this song on piano with this video, I was 10 years old then and I'm 18 now.
Watching it again fills me with nostalgia. Thank you.
Look at that... he didn't have much more than 50 years. He died so early... but he did in just 50 years more than what anyone else could have made.
Goodbye, Mr. Iwata.
:'( rest in piece Mr. Iwata.
Five years later and im still a little sad about it.

Satoru iwata 1959-2015
Today is the day that the gaming industry stood still.
サブスク堂見ました。 ゲームは全く分かりませんがこの曲🎶 懐かしくもあり、胸が熱くなる音楽😭😭😭 感動しました✨ ありがとうございます🙇♀️ ̖́-
I'm gonna replay Earthbound out of respect for Iwata
RIP Iwata
May he game on in the afterlife
TheGeek11 Yeah
All right, rock and roll

Grown-ups have done so much more stuff than me

Now I take my backpack to the world
and fill it with memories
My favorite base-ball cap rests on my head
My worn out sneakers, faded white and red
My own guitar pick, shiny and clear
Safe in my pocket, right here
Though sometimes I got sad and almost cried
You were right there with me, by my side
I knew we were friends to the core
But maybe it was something more
Together we walked that road for so long
We laughed, we played, we got hurt, we grew strong
When taking short-cuts, and getting lost
I learned what I’d known all along
That even if you can’t put faith in those
Who you meet, and lose, and love, and hug
Over-all, you just can't give up
Believing in your friends
And just by being there, you've woken me
Just by being who you’d always be
Now I see, you helped me to know
The stronger, happier me
Because
Like a gentle breeze, through the grass and the pine trees
You always wore a smile
Now we, who shared our Smiles and Tears...
...I miss you...
We two are now far apart.

Sonata Arctica Kenichi We understand
Just finished this piano piece today, and It felt like finishing Mother 2 all over again! Thank you for this amazing piece.
I haven't lived for long as adults had
I have nothing but my bike and red hat
A smile, a laugh, and you in my heart
As well as my baseball bat.
:'(

I love the bottle there, feel the same way
I miss you.
"No crying until the end."
This song is my childhood. Three years later, and people still use Satoru Iwata as an exemplar of how corporate leaders could be.
This was so beautiful! I still have chills from it, and I almost cried!
YES, THIS COVER IS AWESOME
AND YOU HAVE THE SHEET MUSIC, EVEN BETTER
I appreciate your amazing performance. It's beautiful in a more absolute sense, and assisted me in helping a friend of mine see that video game music can be emotional.

Leave your home and fight the evil Giygas. You may be afraid, but there are friends that can help you. * chortle *.
Through the smiles and frowns, the ups and downs, they will always be by your side.
This is one of the best things on youtube, and it makes me tear up inside every time I listen to it. Thanks, man!
That was beautiful, wonderful presentation of skill and grace from a piece of music that brings back fond memories of my youth. Hearing that makes me wish I invested in a piano instead of my guitar collection.

I love this video. It encapsulates the peace and tranquility of the Mother series perfectly💛
Okay guys, seriously stop with the Iwata comments. He was an amazing person and will be remembered. But it's's been a year now; are we going to cry all our lives about his passing? Let's just listen to the great music.
Here I am nearly 3 years later still mourning Iwata-san’s death. R.I.P. Mr. Iwata
some people know it as mother 2 some as earthbound but we all know it as not art, not an icon but true happieness and fun what every kid should have in his life
I find that bound togethers arrangment of smiles and tears to be beautiful
I love this song so much
it makes me cry every time I hear it.. ):
I want this playing on loop at my funeral
Thank you very much for the sheet music!
I swear, by the end of this year, I'll be able to play this as awesome as this =D!
Thanks for making me smile and tear! Thats how good you are!
Mother 2.
Not just a game, the icon of the 20th century.
exactly what i was looking for!! this is like a hundred times better than the original arrangement of smiles and tears, if not the best!!! you, sir, are amazing!
Earthbound has very simple songs, yet they are very beautiful when played.
This is definitely one of my favorite. Nice job :)
Goodbye Satoru Iwata. You've made my childhood, and my life today. I'm actually starting to cry while making this comment. I never even knew him.
Such a sweet serenade.

Beautiful arrangement, and kind of you to freely give out the sheet music.
I wish I'd seen this movie last year when you posted it. This would've made a heck of a lot better early birthday present than what I received. x3

am i the only one that tears up while listening to this song, every time? not just this awesome piano version either. its not like bawwling but I get two immense tears in my eyes everytime

Sounds great, and thanks for posting a link to the sheet music! That's very handy. :)
Great performance...and all by ear, too! Major props. :)

This playing is off the hook. It makes the melody sound so flawless.
