    The Chinese exam is required for every student that wants to go to a Chinese university. Doesn’t matter if you are a poetry major or math major or dance major. In many other countries they only require these math/physics exams only if you are trying to enter the sciences field

    ENS ULM D exam, the hardest exam in french preparatory classes, is really underrated, it is one of the hardest exams ever for Bac+2 students. It's a 6 hours exam with a really difficult math questions.
    You really should take a look at it.
    Here is one of the hardest among them:
    - ENS ULM 1993 : Dirichlet's theorem
    - ENS ULM 2022 : Rational points of a quadric
    - ENS ULM 1966 : (It is legendary)
    - ENS ULM 2006 : Study of the group SLn(Z)
    And there are more

    At first I thought that the Taylor series for pre-univercity exam is a bit to much. On the other hand the solution looks nice. There is an argument needed that you can stop looking after just a couple of first elements of the series. The easier way might be to show that for each n: elements at the n-th position satisfy the same inequality. If it is smaller for each n then the sum is smaller.

    Thanks for the video! It's a bit unfortunate that you couldn't find any actual translated papers. The way to do it would have probably been to just use google translate to get the Chinese characters for 'gaokao' and 'math exam paper' and then paste it back into google and then use google translates OCR translate function to translate the questions back into English. The Chinese math exams are actually much less calculus/real analysis heavy and have typically a lot more geometry, trigonometry and number theory and those types of things in them, also containing proofs.
    Overall, the issue that large countries like China and India have is just that there are too many students. All of them are competing for far fewer decent higher education spots. University education is often seen as the only legitimate way out of poverty, the state doesn't offer a lot of other paths after high school. This produces an insane amount of pressure and exams that are rather difficult just to weed out this mass of people. Some Chinese parents that are wealthy enough send their kids abroad to complete high school and go to university just to avoid this insane pressure and competition with other Chinese because high school education in the West is often seen as much less competitive, stressful and more fun.

      More or less correct. When my child did his study at the technical university in Twente , the Netherlands ) there were also a lot of Chinese students there.
      It seems lucrativ for those to go to the netherlands, do an exam in Dutch for foreign students, and after that a technical study (or mathematics which is also given there).

    I'm uneasy about your solution using combinations in the last question. It works here because every combination of two different numbers is equally likely. Suppose you change the initial question to be 'What is the probability of the numbers being coprime or equal?' Now the combination of 2 and 3 is twice as likely as 2 and 2 so just counting up the combos won't work. I'm not saying you'd make that mistake - just that the method might mislead people.

    • @domc3743
      @domc3743 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is it not just 1/7+2/3 ? If you have (a,b) fix a as a constant then the probability that b = a is 1/7 and then we know that the probability of b being coprime is 2/3.

    • @Mathemagical55
      @Mathemagical55 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@domc3743 Sure but if you started by listing all the possible combinations you could come unstuck because they're not all equally likely in this case.

    I Think there is no need for Taylor series, especially if Taylor series is not in the High school math programme ...

    Not sure if you're counting olympiads but supposedly the China Math Olympiad is more difficult than the IMO. There are dozens of students every year in china that can get a gold medal at the IMO, but only 3 slots to represent the country. Thus, the team selection test ends up being more difficult than the actual international competition itself.

      in a specific way than you. You know your second mistake, which means it’s not about how fast you go, it’s about the quality of your pace.
      We all have our strength and uniquenesses, Ramanujan discovered his strength in self study and he utilized it. Find yours and that will be the secrete to your pace and direction. Maybe yours is visual learning or siting and listening to others, discover it and utilize it. How fast you go doesn’t really matter, it’s the direction that matters.

And I can assure you that if you are expecting Ellie to have pity on you and be your friend, after reading your long comment/story then that is highly unlikely . So go and have some life and do Math, rather than hope people to ruminate over your situation. Make friends by doing some Real Math, not by hoping people to have pity on your situation and be friends with you and motivate you to do Math or Physics.
