Just reserved the Super bundle. I just hope they get early review models out to find out if it's really worth the extra to get both qled and oled and offer the option to switch to qled or oled only when available depending. The through the lens shots of the prototype qled looked a bit choppy so might be a deal breaker if it ends up even my 4090 struggles to run it. Would have to think long and hard if dropping another 3 grand (or whatever price the 5090(?) eventually ends up being released at) is required.
Thank god Pimax figured it out. This is what it should have been in the first place. Hardly anyone wanted the standalone. Now at least they are aiming at the right feature set. Good review.
The light and both Super variants look great - but I want both thoroughly reviewed before I make another purchase. Will the head strap on the light be okay? Will both new HMD’s fog without fans. Will the light without dimming look as good as the current Crystal with dimming disabled (or are these different panels). Does the Super have a battery? How’s the battery life? How does it sound without DMAS speakers. Seb, we want to know the details.
I put a reservation in for the Super QLED, but honestly I am finding it really hard to follow through with it. Many of the "features" of the Crystal still have not been delivered, and instead of working on them as promised, they decided to just make a new headset. The crystal had (and still has) a ton of issues that were not expected when pre-orders came out for it (ie the senseless battery requirement for wired mode). Based on the Crystal launch, I think we can safely say Q4 will not be a thing, and when it does launch most of the features will not be there. But hey, at least amazon already has 44 packs of Crystal Light listed way below Pimax's MSRP ($10), so I guess we have that going for us. (surely not going to end in a cease and desist letter or lawsuit).
Thats why dont go Pimax. Theyre announcing new headsets every 6 months and they dont support their older products. Plus theyre always overpromising and half of the features are just words.
Pre-odering anything tech these days is bound for disappointed. I'd say wait for a year after it's official release for it make sense to purchase the product. I am pretty certain the Crystal Super will be very bare bones when it releases with many of the features still hardlocked due to software implementation. The light however, should be ready to go from the start.
Current owner of the Pimax Crystal and super happy with it since July 2023. Not a single issue with the headset performance pure. Hearing of the Super bundle, I immediately put in my order. Should make my flight sim experience even better than it already is. Super stoked about this news. I look forward to your updates on these products...
@@somerandomperson8282 the only issue i have is i had to buy separate usb powered hub and also everytime i start the headset up i need to disable and then re enable the usb device port through device manager. Actually another issue is that after about 3 hours i need to swap batteries. It's not great because of those things but when actually using it I like it. Wish I waited for the one without the battery though
Yes and NO.....because without eye-tracking you are going to need a beefy GPU to keep up with the fps...because 120HZ sound great but this needs a hefty gpu again. And No fans ? I'm sweating already in the fan version...
Fans are for the XR2 cooling, I agree with you that having no eye-tracking is a pain in the ass but it still worth the upgrade if you come from the Reverb G2 like me... Hopefully my 4090 will do a good job 😅
The Light version only has fixed foveated rendering (no eye tracking) and no wide fov swappable lenses. Check the specs carefully, there's a good reason it's half price.
Just like OpenComposite does, its enough for me considering the price. I don't want stand alone features at all, just a Display Port. The provided FOV also coming from the G2 is huge in comparison.
I preordered the Crystal Light and went to VR Optician for prescription lens inserts. VR Optician recommended the 15mm facial foam interface which is out of stock in all markets as far as I can tell. However, the images of the Crystal Light shows an oversized facial foam. I can not find information on what's in the box with Crystal Light. Does it come with a 15mm facial foam? I am excited to get the Crystal Light but heart broken the Reverb G2 is being discontinued. I was hoping for a G3 version from HP.
Unless something better turns up in the meantime, I'm planning on pairing a QLED Crystal Super with an NVIDIA RTX 5090 once they are released. It would be good to know how durable/reliable the current Crystal headsets have been, as in what is their MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure).
I like the idea of upgradable lenses and faceplate for the Super That means they can make the same base headset and sell them upgraded versions of the parts for the next 5+ years. It's kind of like how AM4 is for motherboards, but the Crystal Super is that for VR headsets
I'm blown away that they're actually going with 4K per eye micro-oled. That is exactly what they need to be doing. Reduce the size and weight, get 4K per eye micro oled in there and with a wider FoV. While its still big and bulky, this is amazing imo. I've got an immersed Visor on order- but as a general shareable headset, this may well be a good secondary headset (if I have the cash at some point) depending on how heavy the micro-oled version is. Fact of the matter is there is no other alternative for wide FoV 4K per eye micro-oled. So this is a step in the right direction. I only wish they'd be able to reduce the size and weight further, but they are really making big strides towards a better PCVR future here.
Technology wise, impressive .. just .. yet another zillino versions of Pimax :) Still I so want to upgrade my Index.. and Pimax seems the best option.. just which one.. and now with 3 more options .. As for the "modular pannels" the idea of future upgrade at reduced cost (if replacing just the modular pannels,) sounds intresting.
Valve got a new VR, Bigscreen may also release 2.0 with full resolution 130gr VR.. and reduce price on current model (unlikely, coz they got very limited production, unfortunately)
I'm getting the super bundle. Even with the local dimming I doubt you'll have the same darks and no glare as in oled. This way I'll have an optimized headset for day and night flight.
I think I’m gonna stick with my big screen beyond. I tried the pimax crystal for 2 weeks and had tons of issues with it. Too heavy, software issues, didn’t fit my face shape, and customer support was not very helpful. The 4k per eye oled panels are interesting though. But I doubt that my 4080 would be able to run them. 2880x2880 base Crystal already can’t be maxed out with a 4090. I can’t imagine trying to run 4k per eye resolutions…
I have mixed opinions , like you said MRTV we will have to test these first. Much to look out for in the near future...these HMD'S and a RTX 5090. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Was thinking about upgrading from a G2 to the light but the lack of eye tracking is a no go. I am mostly a dcs player so would want the DFR. Will wait until i upgrade to a 5090rtx and see what the situation is like then
Pimax states glass aspheric lenses (QLED version), glass pancake lenses (micro-OLED). Its in their key notes and also on the slides you show at 1:06 at the bottom of the page.
I own a HP Reverb G2, and i will definitely buy a Pimax Crystal headset. My question is : PIMAX CRYSTAL allow hand tracking when using hand-tracking-module. Is PIMAX CRYSTAL LIGHT allow hand tracking?
The QLed version has a much higher resolution (14.7Mlln/eye) than the micro-oled (8.3Mlln/eye), and costs less, so what's the point of the micro-oled then?
Pimax might have finally overcome some of the reasons I've always avoided them with this IF they had included the Lighthouse faceplate and not continued charging crazy money for plastic and sensors and IF they had come out with these options for just a little cheaper. As it is, they're too close the crazy high pricing of the Somnium VR1. What happened to the days (2019) when people thought the state of the art full VR kit (Valve Index) was expensive at $1,000? Money means nothing now? lol Still does to me. I guess we'll see (months from now) how the QC is for these new models.
I need a G2 replacement. I will probably get the light version. I trialed a Quest 3 on the weekend and I was not impressed with the visuals compared to the G2. I think the Crystal Lite will be more suitable for me (DCS). Whilst the Super looks ambitious, I think PIMAX is crazy for trying to do both QLED and OLED in the one headset. Who knows, they may pull it off. Anyway it sounds like a science experiment I cannot wait for, nor do I have the GPU to drive it. Looks like they are catering for 5090 customers with bottomless wallets in 2025.
Why they don’t change the shape of the new Pimax light?! It would make the headset lighter and comfortable. I have returned my crystal for its over bulky shape ….
eye tracking is NOT an optional feature for serious VR headsets. I like what Pimax did for the Light, BUT they went too far taking away eye-tracking - thats a hard no for me.
As from new BSB owner, not gonna change because of size and weight. Still Pimax hits right on spot with light. Light vs Quest3 will be though decision for many. Thats the way they should of make Crystal at beginning. Still i think market will be size shrinking because resolution is beginning to be as good as needed for most applications. My new BSB aint perfect, but it represents future.
IDK, maybe the best play here is to wait for the reviews. So many comments everywhere from people who bought the Crystal based on features Pimax promised. Buyers not only found them missing but they were never added and existing problems were never corrected. Now Pimax moved on?These new devices sound very promising, but Pimax does not appear to keep their promises.
It’s not true that problems were not corrected. They actually did a great job improving all the software problems like the lacking tracking algorithms. So here is the hardware revision for a great price. But waiting for reviews is always good.
5000 series Nvidia GPU with the Crystal Super is going to be the best sim racing package. Can’t wait to try it. The only thing that could potentially beat it would be the Varjio passthrough allowing a high definition passthrough of your hands and steering wheel/HOTAS
i don't see the point of the interchangeable lenses. like that's the most expensive part of a headset so upgrading won't be that much cheaper. like there is not much stuff in the housing. prob more expensive for the first device u buy even. bc of added manufacturing costs, added material and unnecessary complexity. this just means the company is stuck with the same formfactor for years now and cant shrink it which is I think pretty important in this field success in the future.(I'm not sure if they promised anything to stick with it. this could be another worry)
@@Nobody-Nowhere Exactly, I suspect they've done the dirty on all those people who have bought something from Pimax just to be able to get a rebate against the 12K. How can a business afford to release something like the 12K without huge financial loss from all the claims against it. Not gonna happen in my opinion. At least not as intended.
@@richardnoall3758 They don't need to. The promise is that they will give out credit for purchasing a new headset. So they can just give out the same credit for a future headset, not necessary 12k.
I would have been on board with the light version had it kept the option to be able to swap to the wider FOV lenses as it's not the visual clarity but the FOV that keeps me from going VR currently.
Big Question, will the Pimax light have a good black levels display or is it the grey rubbish you get on the normal LCD Ignore my question. I just realised the local dimming is an add on.
I never enabled the local dimming on my Crystal. Found it runs better (smoother) without it, and guess I’m not that sensitive to black levels. So personally I wouldn’t pay extra for the local dimming.
Sounds nice. But I will stick with my Quest 3 even though the Quest 3 does not have the larger FOV and has little less resolution. I like the Quest 3 resolution and the nice large sweet spot, and I don't need light house devices for tracking. Most the time I just do SIM racing games and I am sitting down with a wheel controller. I still don't trust Pimax quality and ease of setup of their devices based on past PIMAX VR headsets and reviews from other users - also Amazon reviews. Instead of whipping out so many new products, get one that works well and is easy to use. Plus all their headsets are so big and bulky for my likings. I am pretty sure many people like them and have no problems, but I am hesitant on getting one. I will keep watching your great video reviews on VR to learn more about newer products and your comparison videos. Thanks and take care.
This is gonna blow the Q3 away for sitting VR use => simracing or sim flying. Doesn't mean that the Q3 is a bad headset, but this will be on another level if their QC will be on order...
@@thijsazerty692 "this will be on another level if their QC will be on order..." That's a big "if." Don't get me wrong, I love my Crystal, but their QC leaves a lot to be desired. Though, in all fairness, their customer support was quite helpful, albeit sometimes slow to reply.
What made Pimax different from all the other companies was FOV, not clarity or features. They seem to focus 1. clairty, 2. features, 3. FOV. They need to understand why the 8K was so popular and get back to chasing human level FOV. They are the Dominos Pizza of the VR market with new silly marketing and hardware strategies with standalone or swappable BS compromises no one asked for. It's not that hard: FOV > Clarity > Features > Release. In that order. Let other companies focus on their own market segments like standalone, compact, lightweight, etc. Stay in your own lane PiMax.
So if the promised Crystal 120 horizontal fov was really around 100, considering we can't trust them in this aspect (and so others) doing the maths I guess the announced 130 fov will be 110.
XR4 has a different market.. i think they know that they cant compete with chinese headsets in price. So their stuff is about the platform for corporations and military.
i was getting my card out for the Light version until i saw no eye-tracking (they listed it as positive xd) only true high end PC can handle this without eye-tracking, and even then they will struggle. the fixed thing they are talking about is just blurring the edges all the time, which sucks.
I love the specs, but after experiencing wireless I think that there is no turning back for me. Pimax needs to do too much to win me over anyway. They need to hire a customer service team and support that team just as much as their techs. Then they need to have one vision and see that through to reality by surprising the world with something big and something well-tested and ready to manufacture. Pimax can become the #1 VR-headset maker just like DJI is #1 for drones. Or, they can continue as they have.
Pimax is based on high fov performance 😂😂😂 you literally need the housing to be big enough to physically cover the areas of your eyes vision horizontally to get that 130 fov 🤡🤡🤡
Yesss, finally!! - a new PCVR headset with decent specs that might be affordable! I wonder how the controllers feels compared to the Q3. I will definitely miss hand tracking, though there isn't any software on PC that takes advantage of it. Hoping one day we can navigate in-game menus (particularly simulators) with hand tracking - plus games like flight simulators where you can toggle switches and press buttons with hand tracking would be out of this world. For now, beggars can't be choosers and I am happy this is coming out
I can't believe anyone still thinks this a good thing. Pimax just releasing countess iterations of devices. It's a disorganized messy VR car boot sale as usual on their website
How can all of these "next gen" HMD's have a smaller FOV than the nearly decade old Pimax 8k? Please stop praising Pimax. They totally dropped the ball on their FOV monopoly. Call them out on it.
THIS. Whats the point of pimax if FOV isnt huge anymore.. wtf is the point in any of this. now it seems no companies wana go for FOV which should be the number 1 focus. sick and tired of tunnel visions
Just sold my 8KX and most of the FOV is basically useless. Also high FOV needs more GPU power than a 4090 can provide if you want decent PPD as well. Clarity is more important and the Crystal Super will need a next gen GPU if you want to use it's full potential.
They are the only HMD maker that can go for high FOV, but only choose 130 degrees.. why. Even 1 pixel stretched from 130-180 degrees is a big deal for immersion.
Just a shame that pimax are a shit company. I tried a Crystal - the headset was cheap and the customer support was horrendous. I will never buy from them again….the bad press is real - they are that bad.
Don't you mean 4 headsets. Lite $699. Lite with local dimming$899. Crystal $1699 Crystal wigig module $299 Super qled $1699 , super oled $1999 Both super qled +oled $2399 Phew.
The constant rise in prices of these VR headsets is greatly coming out of reaching the consumer gaming community. These are only for the rich. A lot of hype and false impression of saving money. You put out this huge some of money and then you are faced with a BS one-year warranty with a lot of BS run around when problems arise. The longevity of these headsets is a joke. This is all hype and money grab
This is cutting edge technology lol, there's no way to make it AFFORDABLE, meta is paying people to buy their headset and Pimax is in the high end niche
Early adopter early development bugs... If you need something polished then go for some shitty but consistent meta or hp headset...if you want limited production cutting edge technology you got be prepared to be cut 😂
So Pimax is now making low FOV headsets that are lighter... sounds like their slowly molding their products into Quest-2/3 or Pico-4 etc... Pretty disappointing if you ask me. Also no matter what they are too expensive for what they are and how long they last.
@@adrenalinejunkie3828 Crystal? Awards for what? It was also another problematic and half baked headset with crappy software, not working standalone mode and need of battery to work wired. It’s not true that problems were not corrected. They actually did a great job improving all the software problems like the lacking tracking algorithms. So here is the hardware revision for a great price. But waiting for reviews is always good.
@@mixedrealityTV thanks for correcting me record. If you read many comments about this device people who actually bought the old device are not happy.
Its good that they are losing base stations, but I've already moved on from my Reverb G2 to a Quest 3 and I love it.
Love to know what "MR capable" means, and what it will cost to implement and how it's done!
Incorrect - the micro OLED lens will be glass pancake not aspheric
Right.
Yay, they're finally releasing the 12k! Oh wait.....
Considering the Super has 15MP per eye and 130 degree fov... the specs for 12k should be insane to be even better.
They are correcting the direction from XR2 chip-powered back to pure PCVR.
12k is no longer their goal. Crystal Super is.
@@Thephilpw99 They have to release the 12k in some shape or form though, class action court case on the horizon otherwise. Which would bankrupt them.
@@richardnoall3758 They don't need to. The promise is that they will give out credit for purchasing a new headset. So they can just give out the same credit for a future headset, not necessary 12k.
It would be great to have the Super qled without controllers for sim racing only.
I would have been on board with the light version had it kept the option to be able to swap to the wider FOV lenses as it's not the visual clarity but the FOV that keeps me from going VR currently.
They have improved the fov over the Crystal, so maybe it is enough.
@@dtz1000 Only on the super version which I'm not interested in at that price. The light is the same as the current crystal
Big Question, will the Pimax light have a good black levels display or is it the grey rubbish you get on the normal LCD
Ignore my question. I just realised the local dimming is an add on.
Wow, wow, wow... I want them all!!
Just don't mess OLED version :)
Hmm, and then Light is split to two versions 700/900 🤔
Is +200$ it worth?
I never enabled the local dimming on my Crystal. Found it runs better (smoother) without it, and guess I’m not that sensitive to black levels. So personally I wouldn’t pay extra for the local dimming.
Likely need a 5090 to run the super...
@@thijsazerty692 "this will be on another level if their QC will be on order..."
That's a big "if." Don't get me wrong, I love my Crystal, but their QC leaves a lot to be desired.
I agree. I’m not wearing. 700+ gram headset (crystal light) unless I’m getting massive fov gains
My reverb g2 will be replaced by the light with dimming
Cool! Please use my affiliate link if my content helped you out!
So if the promised Crystal 120 horizontal fov was really around 100, considering we can't trust them in this aspect (and so others) doing the maths I guess the announced 130 fov will be 110.
Varjo needs to get the XR4 out in quantity and tuned up or it will miss out!
they dont compete in the consumer market and the one headset they did they have dropped.
XR4 has a different market.. i think they know that they cant compete with chinese headsets in price. So their stuff is about the platform for corporations and military.
They care as much about consumers as Nvidia. Varjo makes its fortunes in private industry
How do you think the Somnium VR1 compares to the Super?
They're going to hate this but I want a light that's wireless. Biggest issue with the index is dealing with the wire
i was getting my card out for the Light version until i saw no eye-tracking (they listed it as positive xd)
only true high end PC can handle this without eye-tracking, and even then they will struggle.
the fixed thing they are talking about is just blurring the edges all the time, which sucks.
Super Bundle i am coming
2400 usd for the top model plus taxes, ouch...
I dont see people buying both lenses.
Still that big housing. Count me out…again.
Pimax is based on high fov performance 😂😂😂 you literally need the housing to be big enough to physically cover the areas of your eyes vision horizontally to get that 130 fov 🤡🤡🤡
@@meh6513 high performance? More like half baked performance with no support and lots of problems.
@@hydzior so the image is too distorted to appreciate the high FOV the headset allows?
@@meh6513 i know, i owned 4 pimax headset. But the crystal series dont have those big lenses or that fov🤡🤡🤡
We just need more tethered vr headset options so that we don’t have to buy a standalone vr headset for it to keep dying so fast all the time.
For now, beggars can't be choosers and I am happy this is coming out
I'm doomed :p
I want a pimax crystal light with Oled & steamVR tracking. basically a cheaper bigscreen beyond.
These guys are doubling down on the archaic form factor.
Pass......still too expensive. My OLED Samsung Odyssey plus still Rocks the visuals, and I bought it for $130 on eBay.
I can't believe anyone still thinks this a good thing. Pimax just releasing countess iterations of devices. It's a disorganized messy VR car boot sale as usual on their website
super is the one that will replace my reverb G2 finally
Light is only eligible with a fov of 130 otherwise no purchase. I think others are too expensive.First wait for adapter for psvr2.
No eye tracking? No purchase!
psvr2 instead?
@MetalDeathHead lol, no. Either the SV1 I've pre-ordered or the Super I guess. But that's a ton of money.
Pro version resolution is way way high enough so why not going with pancake lense? Im not a big fan of Crystal lense. Hope they change their mind
sweet spot and edge to edge is not great like Quest 3
the Micro-OLED version of the new Crystal Super uses Pancake lenses actually , you can watch the actual presentation if you want confirmation
@@Miku-yu5iuit’s not on the showcase, they are using aspheric lenses for the micro oled
@@lancemccary371 no way , gimme a sec I'll search it up

Still waiting for crystals 160hz😭
Clarity over crappy distorted fov. Always.
microoled for me 100%
So where's the pimax page with the discount for the Super for Crystal owners? More Pimax false-advertising BS, they already pulled it. Switch & bait.
$300 for a wireless module is not a good price at all
They are the only HMD maker that can go for high FOV, but only choose 130 degrees.. why. Even 1 pixel stretched from 130-180 degrees is a big deal for immersion.
Clarity over cheap ditorted big fov image.
Just a shame that pimax are a shit company. I tried a Crystal - the headset was cheap and the customer support was horrendous. I will never buy from them again….the bad press is real - they are that bad.
Pimax light - no controllers, lighthouse and local dimming included $699
It has the controllers!
@@mixedrealityTV that's the problem. Ppl with lighthouse will have index controllers
What a mess, as usual a bazillion versions
Don't you mean 4 headsets. Lite $699. Lite with local dimming$899.
Crystal $1699
Crystal wigig module $299
Super qled $1699 ,
super oled $1999
Both super qled +oled $2399
Phew.
calling anything Pimax Light is obscene. They are big bulky uncomfortable and move all over the place when you move your head.
No DFR, no hand tracking, no thanks. They can't even provide the hand-tracking module for the Crystal. Absolute shower of sht.
I had no idea Jeff Bezos worked for Pimax
Sooooo... still inferior FOV? I'm out.
So no 12kx announcements. The whole trade-in program is a scam. They come up with their next headset and just name it something other than 12kx.
Also no matter what they are too expensive for what they are and how long they last.
there might be a new headset before I finish this video..
Pimax? Huge? Huge problems maybe...
@@adrenalinejunkie3828 Crystal? Awards for what? It was also another problematic and half baked headset with crappy software, not working standalone mode and need of battery to work wired. Plus chunky and heavy for no reason. It was faileed product like most of their headsets.
