Just did an exhaust and intake header upgrade on my 2000 XJ 4.0 and while dealing with the lower 2 bolts under injectors 3 and 4, I contemplated an engine swap because how hard it was to get them on! Hard to get to coming off, even harder putting them on with a custom header that has a pipe directly in front of the bolt holes! Wise choice on the LS swap lol. Thanks for the vid!
I just did this on a 2000 Grand Cherokee. Didn't pull off the fender. Took me hours of fussing to get those two middle bolts out. Everything was so stuck together that even loosening them, I could not pull up the intake. Those bolta had to come out completly with a long harbor freight wobble extension. I did, however, approach the exhaust from the top. The two piece design wasn't so bad. Getting a backup on the tab side of the bolts did suck. I ended up withing a flat bladed screw driver to hold the tabs while running those bolts out.
Its even more of a headache in the XJ's im doing mine now im trying to find a different way to tighten the #4 bolt, ive done it before on my other XJ but i had the head off and i just put the intake and exhaust on the head while it was removed and installed them as one unit together
I am LS swapping my 2000 Jeep TJ probably starting this spring into Summer, look forward to your videos. Will probably get some valuable tips and tricks. I am going with a 5.3, debating on getting a new one. Haven't really got that far yet.
NEED HELP! THERE IS COOLANT COMING OUT OF MY EXHAUST BUT NO MILKY OIL ABOUT TO DO A COMPRESSION TEST ON THE CYLINDERS. I HERD A BAD INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET CAN CAUSE COOLANT TO COME OUT THE EXHAUST
I just did this to my 2000 jeep xj and put a new upper manifold on but when i start up the vehicle it revs to 2000rpm then jumps to 4000rpm and shut its self off, what would be the cause of this?
Man that sucks, it's gonna make you swear a whole lot more but it sounds like XJ Warhawk is right, the throttle body down needs to be sealed so you don't have too much oxygen coming into the cylinders
Hey Jerry, no need to reply. Thanks to you and Steve R for motivating me to make a video, first one is intimidating to say the least, fun though, thanks much and keep m coming..
Why can't you just tighten it up. The gasket is metal. They don't just burn out like the paper ones. As long as only the intake manifold loose just tighten it up.

It’s going to be a big job but I think it will pay off in the future
It’s better with two people. One under the vehicle to guide the socket on bolt head and other to remove the bolt. It took us ten minutes.
Excellent video, Jerry.
Did you ever take out the intake manifold for a 2000 WJ Grand Cherokee? If so how did you get the bottom bolts out?
Following 😀
nice clear video. i learned what i needed to, just by watching. thank you.
Best way to fix a mopar, drop in an LS. Also works on any ford.
How much would job like this cost?
I'd charge 1,500 for the pain in the ass job it is to do.
How many bolts are under the manifold?
Hey man what is that red thing in your left hand at 3:30. Is that necessary to get that hose thing off?
I forget the actual name but they sell them at any parts store is a fuel line quick release wrench they look like little packmans

Try head gasket or cracked head, good luck

Vacuum leak. Most likely your intake didn’t seat properly. Take it all apart again and make sure it’s tight and flush to the engine block.

When was beer time? No swearing either?
Yeah , LS swap ! Do you know what size LS ??
Could you send me the link where you take those 3 screws that are attached with the power steering pump ?
The 3 bolts that hold on power steering pump are accessed through the holes on the pulley.
Nice job!! 👍, & HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and your family...
Happy New year to you as well

Yea Love the 4l but this job is the worst especially if you have a header. Took me 3 days of alot of frustration swearing and drinking
I know right that banks headed sure Hugged the frame rail
What's the best email to contact you at I have a question regarding your 4l
You can post your question here
@@TestDontguess do you have any plans for the head I'm actually looking for the valve spring retainers
Engine has been long gone
You are right ,IT WILL MAKE YOU SWEAR
FUCK!!!! I got to do this now….. half tempted to eat the negative equity and get a newer used vehicle.
I have aftermarket headers, factory headers may not be so bad
I own one. But what a fucking shit design.
My god it looks like a bitch. I gotta do that in 2 days. What did u use to take the fuel line off the rail? Some sort of depression tool I'm guessing
That’s correct a fuel line disconnect kit, good luck on the job
Boo! Bad ending. lol
