the most incredible thing about Ralph ultimately is there is no "before" him. No one ever created on nylon stringed guitar these ideas before him. You could say well there was Charlie Byrd and maybe a few others but no one has ever written to this level of melodic and harmonic sophistication while still being accessible. He stands alone in his achievements and is my all-time guitar hero.
Born in 1940 and still playing like this. From the early Oregon records, sessions for ECM and all the solo recitals in Europe, Ralph continues to dazzle with his virtuosity and passion.
First discovered Ralph Towner's Diary in a record store & seeing 12-string guitar, classical guitar, piano & gongs by him, got it & was taken by the marvelous, mysterious music ! His piano can also be on par with his guitar playing & this is rare ! Unique
Same here. Diary was my first experience hearing Ralph. Bought the album on the spot. Well, actually it was seeing Oregon a few times live here in NY. Tremendous inspiration on my playing. Ralph is that high bar.

Agree, totalMENTE. His voice is essential, is original, is incomparable.
Yes, he plays the best dissonance there is. I hadn't heard him in decades, since Oregon, but recognised him the second he started playing.
Agree!
Agreed!
in many tunes he had a touch so lovely and full of feeling, like keith jarrett. a great one!
At 80 years "young", this is absolutely amazing playing. What an inspiration!

Great concert! although the sound is too quiet and dry, with some eq and reverb added it sounds just amazing
🙂

He almost plays a song, sheerly by accident. What a mess.
