- How to make a detachable and removable cable modification for ANY headphones and headsets. This do-it-yourself (DIY) project gives headphones a cable-free life, eliminating issues with damaged or faulty cables. This removable cable mod can be applied to almost any full-size headphones, as they generally share a similar build construction. You can perform this detachable cable mod when repairing a broken headphone cable. After the modification, you can forget about cable problems. Simply swap out the cable for any situation.

To start, purchase a 3.5mm 4-pole socket for chassis mount, or a 3-pin 3.5mm socket if you don't need a microphone. Then, buy a new 3.5mm 4-pole cable for use with a microphone or a stereo cable for just music. Alternatively, you can modify your old cable to have a 3.5mm jack plug end.

I have done this mod on my Superlux 681EVO, best electronic mod I have ever done for sure.
True, I don’t know why manufacturers do that, because it’s so simple and inexpensive.
@@TechscrewDIY Its planned obsolescence, a business strategy where the process of a product becoming obsolete is intentionally planned and built into it from the beginning by the manufacturer. This strategy aims to encourage consumers to purchase new products by making the existing ones unfashionable or no longer usable.
Anyway, keep tinkering.

Love your video ❤🎉
i have a gaming headset with split p2 jacks(one for audio and one for mic), is it possible to convert the p2 split cable into one p3 cable? i want to also use a detachable mic(p2) from another headset i have, would this work if i add one socket for the main cable and one for the mic? and will this interfere with the mic and audio somehow?
Another question I have is whether I can connect the negative wire from the mic together with the other negative wires from the rest of the headset.
Question regarding soldering the driver wires to the jack. I want to make my Sony mdr7506 balanced with dual 3.5mm outs. The driver wire only uses + and -, the jack has left, right and ground. Where do I solder those wires onto the jack?
Just a note for everyone, if your aux port thingy has two grounds that means that it is (probably) a ballenced one!
This will be very, very rare. If the headphones have a standard 3-pin 3.5mm stereo jack, there may even be up to 6 ground wires inside the headphones. However, it won't make any difference unless there's a proper 4-pin balanced jack. The best way is to check the jack and headphone specs to be sure that these headphones are standard stereo.
At 1:53, is it important to follow the L and R when soldering or is it okay to swap one for the other?
you need to follow the L and R pins when soldering
Nice video! May I know if the mic can still be used by doing this? I have one wired headset which is USB-A, I want to plug it to USB-C or lightning device sometimes for meetings. Detachable cable seems really nice if both the mic and speaker can work.
I also noted that you said 3.5mm is analog signal, but usb has digital signal. So is it possible to make type-c socked if 3.5mm socket cannot be applied?😀

eng please :)
How much would u charge to do this for someone if they sent u in the headphone they wanted modded?
My standard price is 22 euros for the mod and making a stock cable compatible with the new mod. Later, you can use any 3.5mm audio cable for a few dollars and forget about problems with broken cables. I am located in Europe/Latvia.
@@TechscrewDIY damn its gonna cost a nit of money sending it to u. I thought u were here in the states
@@WavyVaporizers Therefore, it's better to mod the headphones yourself and then make a lot of money helping others in the States.
Can i send you my sony mdr-7506
I live in Europe; tools will be cheaper to buy, so you can do this yourself.
