      PS not that other vendors never had or are having similar issues but at least you can pretend something as such a big company have all the resources needed to do things right, do things right. At this point whatever they say it's just all bs thrown in the air with no value anymore.

      @@HexTheLegend Yes, after watching this video I will be doing exactly this! I'm glad I haven't decided yet what motherboard I want to buy as I probably would have went with an ASUS one. Bro they got me for a i9 maximus extreme EATX, its a $1000 dollar board. I sent it in for a manufactures defect the board was working just not the audio jacks. They deleted my RMA complaint. I don't know about Europe but I was once working as a tech assistant & dealt with RMA claims regularly. In Malaysia Asus uses refurbished mainboards & GPUs as replacements. I have NEVER received any brand new units for mainboards & GPUs (though some items like modems & routers are always replaced with brand new units) from Asus, ever. So I am not the least bit surprised that you received all refurbished units as replacements.

      Nearly all brands that send you an RMA replacement, send out a barely tested (testing with something that is not actually go to stress the product at all) and sometimes barely given a look over at it physically. Its standard practice it seems - because why provide good support when meh will do just fine. If something is being sent out as just-as-good-as-new which is what an RMA should be for something like a mobo or add-in card of any kind, then better tests and a look over the item to make sure it's not marred and is clean is necessary, and really, should be legally required.

    Finally, the era of ASUS's myth of excessively priced components due to their "high quality" is coming to an end. Once upon a time ASUS was far and away the best motherboard manufacturer on the market. They've let their quality slip over the past few years, and other companies have caught up in quality and performance. Combine that with widespread institutional issues with customer care and they've lost any advantage or goodwill they had built a decade ago.
      Some day CEOs and shareholders will realize that sacrificing customer satisfaction and brand reputation is not the way to profit, even if it results in a slight uptick in the quarterly earnings report.

Ended up settling on a water-logged card which at least functioned as I didn't want to deal with them anymore.

    This is very similar to the experiences (In the US) I had with my Asus Z97-WS. They sent me 3 bad boards as "replacements" too. The fun part was the third replacement they sent me was the same board as the first one, so it was actually 4 swaps. This took me over a year to get through, so be glad you've gotten much faster responses than I did.
    Now, it's pretty normal for any company to send refurbished (previously used, returned for some reason) REPAIRED items as a replacement, however, these should be WORKING, and in good, sellable condition. Asus doesn't do that. I don't think they bother to repair anything.

    From my experience, no company has ever sent a new component for RMA. Even with EVGA, they sent me a refurbished GPU, and then that GPU crapped out a couple of weeks later, so they sent me another refurbished GPU, and that GPU crapped out 2 months later. During this time, I had to tie up the cost of the GPU as collateral while they advance shipped me the replacement cards. Then after I complained, they finally sent me a brand new GPU, but they didn't have anymore 2080 Super's, so I got a brand new 3070 Ti as a replacement.

    Coming from someone in PCBA manufacturing, not every board that comes out of the oven is perfect. They do need hand soldering to repair issues. Hand soldering can be close to how the stencil printer and pick/place machine do it, but most time it’s just done to an acceptable level. For consumer grade products, it’s a class 1 or class 2. The highest class 3, is for aero space, military or medical devices. Just because it’s touched up doesn’t mean it’s a previous failure and RMA. The chip in the edge is not supposed to be there as the edges are cut by routing tools. However a lot of the times if the damage is minor, it will fly as long as there aren’t internal traces nearby. I’ve seen bad/damaged bare PCBs come from the manufacturing house as well with scrapes and imperfections. Parts like heat shields, heat spreaders, covers etc are all manufactured and shipped together. Generally they are wrapped or separated so scratching doesn’t happen, but sometimes it does. It doesn’t mean that it’s used, it could mean that it wasn’t handled with care. To me, I feel like if you don’t understand how boards and parts are manufactured and you’re going based off the look of the end result, then this can be very misleading. However, they are definitely supposed to be working, so there is no excuse for that. The thermal paste can come from in house testing, but I don’t know their processes so I have no excuses in that regards. If they want the appearance of new, they should use thermal pads if they do in fact use paste.

    • @peoplez129
      @peoplez129 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Not every board that comes out is perfect, but it should be pretty rare. Anyone who has ever seen how boards are made, know it's a highly controlled and automated process with extreme precision, practically like 3D printing. Having to RMA a new product, to only get a used or repaired product with issues, is simply not acceptable, especially for a board that is still in production and clearly having many issues. It would seem more like boards are being simply passed around between multiple customers until one eventually gives up with the RMA process entirely, at which point the board then exits circulation, and ends up in the trash while the customer just goes out and buys something else, taking the loss.

    • @RB-pc7tg
      @RB-pc7tg 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@peoplez129 you would think so, but the reality is not. Parts don’t always cook perfect, you can easily have tombstones or pillowing. You can receive a reel of a single part that is out of spec or corroded. You can have old solderpaste. You can get plugged holes in the stencil, which will cause insufficient solder amounts. Machines do have failures, not all failures cause breakdowns, but can cause components to become knocked around. Bigger companies should have automated inspection machines and trace continuity testing, but I’ve seen those miss defects. And finally, they do end up in the hands of employees so anything can happen there. The majority of defects are reworked by humans. Some of those people are better at their jobs than others, meaning that a pcba can be difficult to tell if it was reworked or came out of the oven perfect. On average, 5% +/- 2% have a defect that requires repair. Rare occasions can be as much as 20% due to compounded problems. Sometimes there are failures with RMA processing which can be at the fault of the company or the customer. Products can and do get missed or overlooked. I’ve seen it all. But I wouldn’t blame a scratch in the soldermask, dent in the corner or a mark in a metal cover solely on being used and resold as new. All of the assembly parts or through hole parts have to be put on by a person, and mistakes happen. But a company isn’t going to trash or markdown the price of a device over something so minimal. Last, you said anyone who has seen the process… but seeing it being done and doing it for a living is totally different. Expectations and reality don’t always align, there are always tolerances and allowances.

    In the UK with the long distance selling act, you can return an item within 30 days for a full refund, as long as it's obviously not been damaged by the customer. If returning it as you don't want it anymore, you will have to pay for the return but if it's DOA or was damaged by the courier, Etc you can get a full refund but for a replacement, you do run the risk of getting a used item, but I'd suggest you ask for a new item, as they may try and pull a fast one. For sending the item back, go with a service they either recommend or if it's left upto you, go for a good courier that has insurance that covers the item you're sending back, I usually do DPD Local or Royal Mail.
    In this instance, the board has been sent back for RMA after the 30 day period, so it's upto them to either repair it or replace it for a like for like, so a used board for a used board, they may send out a new product to replace the used product but that's at their discretion. But with them repeatedly returning products in a worse state and non functional, you're entitled to a refund. They may try and take some money off for however long you had the item, but this is on the company to decide however I would argue that due to the poor handling of the RMAs, that the reduction in a refund should be waived. If you're not happy with what they offer, if they're being unreasonable by sending multiple dead and very well used boards, then your next go to is FInancial Ombudsman. They will act on your behave but will be unbias. They'll look at what has gone on, and if they think that the company has been giving you the run around, Etc they will not only issue you the full refund but will also add a goodwill gesture depending on how long and how bad things were throughout the process. They also keep logs of complaints made against all companies and if enough complaints get made against a specific company, then they can investigate.
    This is for Tech Notice and anyone else who is having issues with Asus or whichever other company.

    I bought this same motherboard about a week ago, and before opening the box, contacted Asus Support to determine the BIOS installed on it (it needed v. 2002 or later to use the CPU and 192 GB RAM I purchased).
    Asus assured me this board's manufacture date (February 2024) indicated it had either v. 2002 or v. 1904, a 50-50 chance the board would work for me.
    So I opened the case and unsealed the board: it was BIOS v. 1801, dating from December of 2023 (the 2002/1904 versions were released the month of manufacture). I had to take the motherboard somewhere to have the BIOS updated to the most recent version.
    Something is very, very wrong at Asus, and it's not limited to their RMA Department.

Nothing I did or try could fix the issues. I returned that pos pile of junk to best buy for as full refund and bought a HP omen 17" with the i7 11800h and 3070 and I have put thousands of hard hours into that laptop with working and gaming and in the garage to hook up to my ecu for forscan. But mostly use it for gaming and it works perfect still like the day I bought it to this day. It's been a tank of a laptop. Plus hp has a youtube channel showing you how to take it apart and fix it your self if need be. And has links to oem parts for replacing. I used a video on their page recently to replace the thermal paste this year on my laptop. Step by step of how to do it "I'm do it your self kind if person so I'm all for it" Temps were getting a little toasty and the thermal paste dried which happens on any electronic that uses thermal paste and I replaced it and all is good once again. I have no need to replace my laptop atm but when I do need to again I will be buying HP once again hands down no questions asked. They will have my business as long as they stay the way they are atm. If they go south I'll jump ship no problem and try another brand.

    one of the really informative parts of the Gamers Nexus video (I think the part 2 video but may be wrong on that) was the comment from one of the lawyers being interviewed who said that once I think they said the US Government get 100 formal complaints along these lines they can then take formal action and start forcing a change so I would encourage everyone to also watch the GN video because I can't remember exactly what the procedure is and what the outcome can end up being if enough people jump onboard with entering a proper complaint because we all want change for the better. For me this is not about wanting to damage a business/brand that I too have come to love over the years. I do not want to see ASUS taken out of the game I want to see them here into the future and continue producing fantastic products but this is only going to be the case if they stop screwing their customers. Their behaviour is totally unacceptable from a company whose stature should mean that things like this should never EVER happen in the first place. They need to be held to account for this.

It all died OR half of its become unusable right after the warranty expires, and they aren't even overclocked. 1 RAM slot or 2 (for another channel) completely goes blank---as though it's been removed/reinserted many times---which no one does, not even my system.
      Tried Gigabyte Z270, gaming motherboard, so far, it went pretty well for 4 years--not even OC, just XMP, and decided to use it on my system Z590 (been running since 2021).
      My second PC used Asrock Z270, not gaming, but an ITX PC, pretty OK, but feature set between mid to high is a huge fall off. It feels like ASROCK mid-range mobo feels like it is low-end. This was switch to ASUS Z490, because of limited mATX set---so far, knowing ASUS' shitty let bios optimised way before Jayz2Cents, this was heavily configured to run at stock, and slightly power limited (10700K runs at 85W PL1 and 115 PL2). So far, nothing.

And even for us it's a mess to get a component that is not used and we've come to a point where, when we repair anything and its still not working with a component we ordered, we cannot really figure out if it comes from us doing something wrong or Asus that sent us a faulty component. And I am surprised they sent you so many motherboards for the same problem, because most of the time, after we RMA the same component twice, they start blocking us from ordering more components. USA. I sent my z690 hero advanced RMA. They sent me replacement. They said my return had bent pins. I have my doubts and wonder if they bent them? They charged me 90? I did not want to fight in this case and said it was a $90 repair.

Obviously if they don't get a lot of returns of a specific SKU they don't have a choice but to send out a new unit, but most companies will only do that as a last resort

    Thanks for the indepth journalism, work to put out this video. GN has done a great job also in that series. One Z690 TG Plus Wifi 12900KF, one is super stable gaming on Nobara Linux (Bottles for game). Issues were with USB power delivery from the motherboard (did use a pcie addon at one point), usb detection on startup, usb dropoff, usb failing midway to lay OS images. Windows 11 was BSOD'ing recently just on desktop/browsing so I nuked it. Also told them QVL XMP doesn't really work as well as it should (though seems to be a thing in my 12th gen experience). I never did the RMA process just self troubleshooted since I've heard stories and felt it was more minor as far as issues go. These two Asus Z690s are likely my first and last Asus purchase though.

      Have had success with RGB using OpenRGB on both Asus TG Z690s, if you are looking to try that it's free and less bloatware. At least you can boot now and are stable though. Sometimes it is scary to touch a stable system. Mine had the USB issues switched over time Windows 10/11/now Nobara Linux honestly am stable and can't be bothered anymore adjusting. Did BIOS updates and everything though, ram tuning, OS swapping etc to be stable. At least the debug leds for me came in handy (both Asus Z690 and Asrock B760M have them).

This is what puts food on the table for them, and there employees if they have them, people are people. If ASUS lined my pockets, my employees pockets, gave me all the equipment for content I'd be singing there praises until I absolutely couldn't anymore because me, and my family need health insurance, and my employees special needs son is in an expensive school program (just random off the top examples.)

    The weird USB freezing after Windows boots issue I saw on my Asus B450 board as well, after switching it from a SATA boot drive to NVMe. It confused the heck out of me as well. I know it wasn't a board issue because the board has been in use for many years now and the same USB ports have always worked; even right before I switched over to the NVMe drive I was using it with the mouse and keyboard to do the backup and imaging of the drive.
    I managed to fix it by unplugging the mouse keyboard and plugging them into the USB 2.0 ports and restarting. And then it will freeze again, but right after it freezes, unplug and plug into different USB ports. It unfroze at that point. Then I unplugged and plugged back into the ports that WERE freezing earlier - no more freezing.

    Back in 2011 I bought my first laptop for college and it was an ASUS N53 that had a dedicated NVIDIA video card. One day the thing stopped working so I went to the RMA service here in Argentina and they told me that the graphics card was dead and that needed a full motherboard replacement as is soldered, and that the warranty would not cover it because the screen had a scratch, not a crack, not a display issue, a scratch. I argued that the scratch had no relation with the dead motherboard, and they told me that it didn't matter, that any "physical damage" would void the warranty. That being said, as I needed it for college I told them that I would pay for the motherboard replacement to which they told me that they could not do it as they had import issues and that as the laptop was not on warranty anymore they were not obbligated to give me a new one. So I left from there with a dead, unreparable laptop. It was an awful experience specially because the economy in my country is really bad and I had to wait 10 years to be able to purchase a laptop with a dedicated GPU again.
