I just recently ordered the Field BT (Bluetooth version) on Amazon and I am very impressed with it. It is definitely the most sensitive receiver that I ever owned and sounds great. I even traded in my Sangean WR-22 after I ordered this. I will be doing some further testing this weekend, but I am loving this radio.
Nice review. My Field just arrived today, and I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm amazed at how much I've been able to pick up with it so far, and how clear it all sounds.
Hi, Tom. Happy holidays, I'm seriously considering ordering this radio for Christmas, The Bluetooth version. I belive they are going on Amazon for about $91.00. All the radios I have now, are smaller portables. I miss having a big speaker on my radios. I've been looking for a bigger radio at a good price. 73s...
Have you had any problem with the external power supply? Mine worked for 10-15min and suddenly stopped. Then I realized that the power supply was smoking. I took it off unplugged the 7VDC connector from the radio and put it back on the mains power (just the power supply not the radio). I thought it was dead but the power supply (1500mA) was actually working! The radio on the other hand wasn't. I powered the radio with another (reversible polarity) 7VDC power supply and nothing. It must have burned a diode or something inside the radio. I tried on batteries and it was working fine. I ordered a new one but I'm not gonna power this one with the original power supply (which is a transformer inside four diodes and a couple of capacitors on a small circuit board). I think I will create a USB cable with reversed polarity and use it on the radio on a 2Amp (at least) power supply.
Yes and no problems. Unfortunately these Chinese radios have poor quality control and I always advise getting them from dealers with easy return policy.
Sounds like either the speaker is bad or maybe the audio amp. If the sound to the earphones is good it is more likely a speaker which easy to replace or you could just use an external speaker.
I really like the inverted display and separate treble/bass controls but sadly no BFO is a deal breaker. Thanks for the review, I'll be curious how well the unit receives, a nice looking bit of kit to be sure.
Agreed gps! The G3 was poorly designed and had the Silicon Labs digital tuner chip in it that caused all sorts of poor reception problems. Hopefully Eton will go back to the earlier set up on the G5 and just add the single side band and sync detector. I'm really sorry that Sony (well almost entirely), and Panasonic got out of the shortwave radio business, They produced outstanding units that excelled in reception performance, and the quality was nearly flawless. I've written to both companies and told them that there is a significant demand for good quality performers that they used to offer and that they should consider reentering the marketplace.
watershed44 Interesting comments. I bought a G3 about 6 months ago new and it had no problems. Reviews are mixed so it appears they had a quality control problem maybe. Thanks for your comments, Tom
I have Odec D's rechargeable in mine. When they need to be recharge I just just exchange for fresh rechargeables then recharge with my MAHA rechargers.
While it does not charge rechargeable can it use Rechargeable? My Realistic DX440 can use use rechargeable even though you cannot charge the battery while it is in the radio. Hope your day has been good.
Shobhit Omer many times these radios get their microcontroller messed up giving strange results. try resetting the radio. the manual has instructions on how. hope that works. if not let me know and we can try something else.
Have you tested the Bluetooth version of this radio? I have fallen out shortwave listening, but I might consider buying the Field BT version because I have been wanting a portable radio with Bluetooth functionality for the longest time.
Thanks for the reply, Tom! I am getting more curious about this radio and the Kaito KA-700. It lacks shortwave, but has Bluetooth along with AM, FM, and Weather bands. I am leaning towards the Field BT as it would probably have better reception and audio quality than the KA-700 (or even KA-600). I am basically shopping for a radio for my camping trip in a couple of weeks.
Based on my limited testing of both radios, I like the Eton much better. Keep in mind that any China radio can differ from radio to radio as far as quality. Always buy from somewhere that has an easy return/replace policy.
hamrad88 Yeah, I am planning to buy either radio on Amazon as they are pretty good about returning items. I might be set on the Eton Field BT but the price of it bumped up $10 more from yesterday so I will keep my eye out on it by Friday.

hamrad88 Goodmorning, Thankyou, But I already purchase one last night. 73s
I am using rechargeable in my now. When the run down I just remove and recharge them. I leave the radio plugged in while Batteries are recharging.
I Believe With Eton Sattelite And The Eton Field You Can Charge then in the Battery compartment with the AC Adapter Plugged In

I picked up one of these at a thrift shop. The reception is very good but the sound quality from the speaker is terrible!

The new Eton Satellit (Grundig G 3 replacement) will be out soon and it has
a BFO with separate USB and LSB, along with sync detector.

I hope it's completely redesigned from the inside or resembles the G5, the G3 was a disaster and that's being nice about it.

My G3 has been a solid radio.
I have Odec D's rechargeable in mine. When they need to be recharge I just just exchange for fresh rechargeables then recharge with my MAHA rechargers.
Great idea.

Yes, thanks.
Too bad Eton didn't offer you the option of buying the radio with a metal case and knobs too.
Dear Sir, i have a problem related this radio tuning function and aux function. it always showing aux in.. plz suggest and do help.
Shobhit Omer many times these radios get their microcontroller messed up giving strange results. try resetting the radio. the manual has instructions on how. hope that works. if not let me know and we can try something else.
sir we tried to many times but no succeed in tuning and aux out.
Shobhit Omer ok, my next guess is that is there is something wrong with the aux in jack. have you tried plugging something in and out of that jack?
yes we tried but not succed........... fm and also medium wave is not tuned...........
Shobhit Omer well that was the easy things you could try. I am out off ideas except for opening and checking the connector.
Have you tested the Bluetooth version of this radio? I have fallen out shortwave listening, but I might consider buying the Field BT version because I have been wanting a portable radio with Bluetooth functionality for the longest time.
No I have not tested the BT but hope to get one soon.

You talk about what you're going to talk about too much.
If he don't talk about what he's gonna talk about how are we gonna know what he's talking about unless he talks about it ???
