Flight attendant here! We use luggage works and Travel Pro for a few additional reasons as well. 1. Most airlines require us to have solid black luggage, and some require no hard shell suitcases with 4 wheels. Also, when we work, we don't check our bags into cargo, they go in the cabin in the overhead bins. The only time we might have to gate check our bags is if we are "deadheading" which is basically us flying as a passenger to reposition for our next working flight. 2. The reason we don't use hard shell suitcases with 4 wheels is because some planes (like the CRJ 200) have overhead bins that are too small for those. 3. Some airlines give us allotment for new uniform pieces/bags. So usually the lugagge brands are LW or Travelpro. 4. And lastly, we use LW and Travelpro because they have a built in clip at the top to connect the J hook which most other brands do not have. We need these J hooks to hold those additional smaller bags aka (crew coolers) which usually hold our next 4-5 day's worth of food. Hope that helps explain a bit more! And yes, most pilots use the metal frame ones in the video and most flight attendants use the Travelpro rollaboard. If you use either, flight crew will probably think you're one of us haha. They are both good brands, they may be expensive but they are pretty durable so it's worth it.
I'm a CRJ pilot and I use a hard shell 4-wheeled suitcase ("Away" brand). There's no rule against it. The only rule is "flight crew's luggage must be black." Far lighter than a LW case, and it does fit in the CRJ-200 overhead!
My father has that luggage because he’s a pilot and I’ve used it, hitting myself many times and I’ve been confused for a pilot many times too. Soooo yes what he says in the video is true but it’s a great luggage. (If you hit yourself by accident with this you’ll feel it for quite a long time, because it’s like a metal box with wheels)
That’s how I make $1000 a day now just by asking people what is this, what is that, how to do this, how to do that. Easy. But it’s also difficult because it needs hard work as well. In turn, it becomes a skill.
Here are the four reasons many of the pilots I work with use either a Briggs & Riley, a StrongBags, or a TravelPro Crew5 instead of the LuggageWorks bag: 1. LW bags weigh twice as much as the other options 2. LW bags cost far more than the other options (except Briggs & Riley, which costs even more than LW!) 3. B&R, StrongBags, and TravelPro are all very durable, and have good warranty & repair options. 4. B&R and TravelPro come in a 4 wheeled version, which is very handy and which some of us prefer.
As a mgmt consulting road warrior, I’ve flown +100k air miles each of the last 25 yrs (up until covid lockdown) and right out of grad school I was gifted a $450 Tumi overhead bin case and i immediately returned same for a refund and instead bought two matching TravelPro versions of the same type of overhead bin case, for about $550 total, 1 for me and 1 for my spouse - we’ve had them now for *25yrs and still using them… just sayin
Two wheels are nice on cobblestones and older infrastructure that isn't wheelchair accessible and nice and flat. If your location to location is modern then 4 wheel is the way to go.
I’ve had mine for about 13 years as a pilot using it roughly 4 days a week. It’s a tank and has taken a beating. Dragged through snow to the bus stop in chicago for a decade, had to have the bottom cast rebuilt twice because sidewalk salt/chemicals caused the wheel axles to eventually fuse to the wheel bearings to the point where they weren’t removable. The side rails have bowed over years as most do. Black paint is chipping away from the metal back plate and rails from slamming it up stairs. 3 years of commuting to various cities as well. At the regionals it was gate checked for every deadhead and was at the mercy of rampers where I would occasionally lose zippers or clips. It looks worn and I regularly get an “omg how long have you had that bag” reaction from other aviation employees and co workers but considering I’ve been living out of it for over a decade and still on my new hire bag shows how impressive of a bag it is. Most FAs use travelpro, getting out of crew vans I’ve seen numerous FAs with broken bag handles, struggling to extend or retract them or one of the handle rails is completely gone. They just seem like cheap plastic bags but probably more sturdy than your casual passenger bag but can’t hold a candle to the durability of LW. If I used a regular travel bag I have no doubt I’d be on at least my 5th bag by now, this thing is solid.
@@alonsomendoza1300I would say it depends. If you travel a lot, I do mean A LOT! Then LW or Strong Bags (the brand I use…also designed by a pilot) might be the way to go. I’m a flight attendant and got tired of replacing my travelpro every 2 years.
In a lot of countries this is too heavy for carry on, the limit is usually 7 kgs. This bag comes to 6.8kgs 😂 So pilots obviously don’t have the same weight limits as passengers.
as a baggage handler, I love and hate these things. hate because of the weight and the fact they only have two wheels to roll around on so you can't move them completely upright like 95 percent of the other luggage. but also love because these are so... square and easy to stack while gripping whatever surface they are in contact with, less sliding around. but yea, these things r durable as hell, and if you have one you're almost guaranteed to have it loaded over other luggage because as he said, virtually only pilots carry these, so they are given priority if there is a capacity limit in the cargo bin.
I used to be a ramper, now I'm a lead, but those things were the bane of my existence. Sitting in the front pit waiting for claims to throw in pit 1, they hand you that and you swing it up onto your legs, only to get a hard 90° sheet of metal slam into your shin. Good times....
Thank you for your work, Ethan. From what I heard, being a baggage handler is hard work for little pay and recognition. I hope you know as a passenger I am grateful you work so hard to move my stuff from one place to the other so I can go on vacation/travel.
keep in mind airline employees have different needs than travellers. They are frequent users but generally aren't going long distances, and the inset wheels are durable and use less room. But if you're going long distances all at once the drag-behind kind tend to hurt your arm after a while whereas spinners aren't as durable but are much more comfortable because you can push it ahead of you.
and dragging the two-wheeled carry on sized bags is a nightmare since the handles dont extend far enough. always getting whipped around and all im doing is walking with it.
@@Abra089 this is the correct answer. I’ve had mine since being hired at my first Airline in 2019 and it’s still going strong. Virtually weightless and I show people all the time that I can pull it usually with just a finger strength.

It’s really beaten up now and I keep fixing it, but it still outlasts any one of those crappy four roller bags. Cheers to many more years of travelling.
My dad has been a pilot for 22 years and 15 with Southwest Airlines, he had the original suitcase they ever made and had never gotten a new one, just yesterday he got a new one but it is safe to say for a person traveling 5 days a week every week for 22 years, those suitcases are decent
This was a classic "fake Amazon style" review. List five things that are great about it and then end with one negative criticism that doesn't really matter in an attempt to make the review appear impartial.
Another one for travel pro. I see some of this company but almost all is the Gucci top of the line travel pro. But I have the lightweight series and it’s very affordable and has taken me across the globe a few times with very minor cosmetic damage (because I got it in pink)
The biggest issue with those bags are that they are heavy as hell so it cuts into your carrying capacity (which can be an issue as a passenger) and they aren't flexible if you need to squeeze them into tight spaces. Many airlines will not issue these but might compensate pilots if they do. Source- I'm former flight crew
I have the exact same bag flight attendant in training love this thing to death durable reliable and awesome! My friend who’s a captain passed it down to me after he had it since 2008. And still to this day it works flawlessly. Later on I’ll definitely retire it and get newer one but for now it’s amazing! The wear and tear adds character to it!
Here in Brazil, the airliners provide the luggage to the crew members. It has to be standardized and carry the company brand, because, after all, we're the company ambassadors.
Our luggage is provided too, just in a slightly different way. We get credit each month towards uniforms and luggage. We can pick what we want but there are rules to what the bag can look like (all black, no big logos). So in the end we don’t pay for the bags or uniforms either, and they are all standard.

I love my LW. I have the stealth premier 737 as i fly SWA almost exclusively. It is the best carry on ive ever owned. It replaced my Away aluminum bigger carry on. I have been asked if im a pilot 3 times though. I fly often so its great but if you fly only a few times a year, its probably better to use a light weight spinner vs a roller.
Luggage Works is just okay, after a while it will really start to show it's wear and tear. But if I were to get a LW again I'd choose the hard plastic version rather than the steel. However, for a much better bag that flight crew also use that has a no questions asked warranty, Briggs & Riley 22" is definitely the way to go.
My uncle and aunt are a pilot and flight attendant. Their company changes their bags every X years and a few years ago they gave us their 20+ year bags. I swear to you those old things are better than any other bags I've ever seen. Unbreakable.
That slamming of the bag is traumatizing honestly. One of the reason that as a full time traveller I only go carry on only. Nobody slamming my stuff or going through it
I work on the road doing pavement marking. I live in hotels around OH, PA, and WV for six months out of the year and I go through a bag every other year. This thing looks like a god send.
Honestly, sounds good for people traveling train/car/boat and still want a reliable bag. The weight definetly holds it bag for regular flight passangers lol
Yeah they don’t expand though so don’t be expecting to pack too heavy. Most crew members are only out for 2-4 days in most cases. My company has us on 7 days and it was hard to get used to packing so light in this thing.
Weight, dimensions, durability- OSPRAY! I have one since 2014 and in 2023 still rocking it as new (I fly “economic”/ just carry at least 10x a year!) return flight within 1500 km. OSPRAY!!!
As someone with a flight attendant sister and pilot dad, this isnt the bag they use but my luggage definitely gets treated better cause it has the companies logo on the side of it hahah
Luggage works is amazing but make sure to have some markings that say not crew or your bag may end up at the top of the jetbridge instead of the baggage carousel. My partner was searching frantically one time when the ground crew assumed it was a pilots at a smaller airport. Also some regionals used to make their pilots put the luggage in the cargo so it didn’t take up cabin space and the ground crew would leave them on the plane.
I looked up the Brand and alot of Airline employees getting a discount on them so seems like luggage works, has a partnership together with Airlines. That also might be a reason why so many have them
Thank you for sharing the observation of the luggage that is in our industry. I use the TravelPro Luggage. Yes, I continue to use TravelPro from my former airline career.😊
My dad uses a Swiss army backpack and a high sierra suitcase, he also uses lush shampoo bars so he doesn’t have to worry about liquids lol I got him hooked on lush products awhile ago
I use the Strongbag brand and not luggage works. But it is similar in durability and quality. They are very distinct in look and everyone recognize it as a crew bag. But for the regular traveler probably would not enjoy these bags. They are very heavy! Even completely empty they weigh a LOT.
Because they usually sell them for less/nothing but charge the companies instead. Selling them to individuals is often more of a hassle than its worth in revenue
Yup. I was issued a LuggageWorks. Opted for the steel frame. It isn’t as large as what my non airline friends carry, but I can fit a weeks worth of gear in it. The briefcase that hooks into the J hook is a must. It fits perfectly next to my seat and holds plenty of snacks, electronics, and other creature comforts. The durability is what really sells it. The average consumer isn’t going to be on HUNDREDS of flights per year. With that much use, you need something that can be hit by a truck… Because it might happen. Even with all the durability, we get new ones every 4 years. The zipper came off my rear pouch. The ID holder is ripped off. Can’t wait for my new one in a few months. That being said, it still rolls beautifully and none of my stuff has been damaged inside it. Added perk is that no passengers ever mistake your bag for theirs. PS: I definitely know the guy with the blue carabiner clip
Ha!! This is awesome and TRUE!! My buddy’s dad is a pilot and he uses these bags! I asked him and he said “huh, I’ll have to check” and he did the next time I saw him, I bought mine twenty years ago after that endorsement and it’s still going strong!

I have been flying with hand luggage only for 6 years. It's so convenient. Especially when you arrive and you don't need your luggage and worry about it.
It's true, I work with airline bags as a ramp agent. It's easy to know a flight crew bag. Always the same. For everyone else...get a hard shell with 4 wheels. They get treated better because it's easier to move them.
They carry their luggage with them. They determine how hard or how tender they do with their luggage. So, if you only do an overnight stay somewhere and not a 3 weeks vacation, you can also carry your luggage with you - when it's small enough. ------------ TLDR: you compare apples with peanuts ;-)

Thank you for the review so that we can learn from your experience. I’m looking forward to luggage that is self-propelled or much easier to push than usual. I almost never have long layover - advantage of working in European LCC, so mostly flight bag, also from luggage works. For layovers I have a suitcase and yes they are very durable and convenient. But yes, 14lbs (6.3kg) is hell lot for passengers and not everyone would leave 460 bucks for Luggage Works. Personally if I fly as a passenger I mostly prefer cabin sized backpack and large Helly Hansen backpack as check in luggage as it is more convenient to move long distances with two backpacks. Advantage of having Helly Hansen is that I can pack it in carry on backpack on one of the journey legs not having to check it in.
There is a major problem here ... that bag is build for work NOT leisure or trips, you'll want something light and spacious instead of heavy durable with many compartments !

1. LW bags weigh twice as much as the other options
2. LW bags cost far more than the other options (except Briggs & Riley, which costs even more than LW!)
And as a airport employee I can tell you that it also is the bag that gets thrown around the most
Funny how pretty much all pilots don't check their bags.
This. My step-grandfather was a baggage handler for years. My boyfriend’s dad is a pilot. The animosity!
I imagine if it’s that heavy 😂
They don’t check there bags so no they don’t!
@@ItMeSinamenRollthere is zero animosity try again!
After getting a luggage set that rolls on 4 wheels, I refuse to go back to 2 wheeled luggage.
Wait till you try those roll straight facilitating wheels bytravel pro . It’s even more lighter to push forward.
@@mrc79 are they heavy and long lasting?
Two wheels are nice on cobblestones and older infrastructure that isn't wheelchair accessible and nice and flat. If your location to location is modern then 4 wheel is the way to go.
2 wheels are superior for actually covering distance and rougher terrain. 2 wheel setups have a larger diameter and roll better.
@@NDN_FTR good thing you can always just lift it up and run it on two wheels
Would you recommend to a regular person or just for pilots?
@@alonsomendoza1300I would say it depends. If you travel a lot, I do mean A LOT! Then LW or Strong Bags (the brand I use…also designed by a pilot) might be the way to go. I’m a flight attendant and got tired of replacing my travelpro every 2 years.
In a lot of countries this is too heavy for carry on, the limit is usually 7 kgs. This bag comes to 6.8kgs 😂 So pilots obviously don’t have the same weight limits as passengers.
Mmqqn
I was like.. what’s the Grateful Dead have to do with any of this?
as a baggage handler, I love and hate these things. hate because of the weight and the fact they only have two wheels to roll around on so you can't move them completely upright like 95 percent of the other luggage. but also love because these are so... square and easy to stack while gripping whatever surface they are in contact with, less sliding around. but yea, these things r durable as hell, and if you have one you're almost guaranteed to have it loaded over other luggage because as he said, virtually only pilots carry these, so they are given priority if there is a capacity limit in the cargo bin.
That is amazing! im going to buy one just to not have my bag squished anymore😂 and with that bag it wouldn’t even matter hahah
I used to be a ramper, now I'm a lead, but those things were the bane of my existence. Sitting in the front pit waiting for claims to throw in pit 1, they hand you that and you swing it up onto your legs, only to get a hard 90° sheet of metal slam into your shin. Good times....
Hate because you can't throw it as far in an attempt to damage everything inside and outside
Okay guys, here's the plan: Buy Luggageworks' stuff.
Yas! My moms a flight attendant and when I would grab her bag my should would quite literally be ripped from the socket. 😂
and dragging the two-wheeled carry on sized bags is a nightmare since the handles dont extend far enough. always getting whipped around and all im doing is walking with it.
The J hook design makes it so that the second, smaller bag in the back makes the handle feel weightless. I also often push mine ahead of me
@@Abra089 this is the correct answer. I’ve had mine since being hired at my first Airline in 2019 and it’s still going strong. Virtually weightless and I show people all the time that I can pull it usually with just a finger strength.
Spinners are great to wa li through an airport but shit for walking around European cities.

I’ve noticed lots of American f/a’s use travelpro as well!!

@@imryujins Was gonna say this, most pilots I see use Travelpro, but I only really fly AA.
Another one for travel pro. I see some of this company but almost all is the Gucci top of the line travel pro. But I have the lightweight series and it’s very affordable and has taken me across the globe a few times with very minor cosmetic damage (because I got it in pink)
@KHJl0V3 no need to do a side by side. Travel pro is lighter and that's all you need to know
Travelpro is great.
Flight deck crew use different luggage than cabin crew generally. Cabin crew use TravelPro most of the time. At least in the US.

I've had my military duffel bag for over twenty years and still working fine!
Yup. And a helmet bag and ALICE pack. I got out in 97. Those things are still going strong.
Here in Brazil, the airliners provide the luggage to the crew members. It has to be standardized and carry the company brand, because, after all, we're the company ambassadors.
I was going to say the same about Angola! My mother’s been flight crew since I was a kid hehehe
Are you Adriana Lima’s brother? Can you put in a good word for me?

I bought a Travelpro 30 yrs ago because that's what flight attendants use and it's still going strong.

Yup. I have had 3. They will take a beating. And, if something breaks, you can send it in and the company will repair it.
That slamming of the bag is traumatizing honestly. One of the reason that as a full time traveller I only go carry on only. Nobody slamming my stuff or going through it
this is true. my mom works for American Airlines as a Captain and this is her suitcase along with another bulky carry on.

This.
Most of us adorn ours with stickers and tags to make ours identifiable when stacked with a bunch of other crew bags.
Dads a pilot and had his for 15 years still in great shape
I looked up the Brand and alot of Airline employees getting a discount on them so seems like luggage works, has a partnership together with Airlines. That also might be a reason why so many have them

@@Rafmeistr referring to literally every other ones
You don't need a licence for this bag but it is almost 500 bucks
Because they usually sell them for less/nothing but charge the companies instead.

Think of it more like the Costco model of business.
