There's this really good Japanese game called Demon Worker that we are obsessed with rn. It's a pretty basic worker placement game, but the theme is just delightfully satanic (literally) and which cards you draft at the beginning of the game really impacts the puzzle of the late game, especially.
FINAL GIRL - ironically, I bought and started playing FINAL GIRL at the beginning of this October. A one-person only game that is VERY challenging and VERY thematic. Based on various spooky horror movies, the themes are definitely Halloweenish. Playing Final Girl will get you in the Halloween mood.
Our Halloween line up of board games started Friday night with Horrified and The Bloody Inn. Saturday night was The Hunger and Arkham: Final Hour. Tonight will be Dead of Winter and Rear Window. And then on Halloween night will be the Halloween board game based on the movie, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer board game.
My group played Zombie kittens, King of tokyo: Dark edition, and tiny epic zombies. We planned to end with mysterium, but tiny epic zombies took longer than expected.
Terrorscape, it is so good. This kind of hide-and-seek game is kind of new to me and the gameplay is amazing, also unique on every gameplay. Hope you two could have a chance to try this one
I play 2 Horrified games at the same time using a "transport" action that I added to the Heroes actions. There are over 6 places on the two boards that are similar that the hero has to be in to move between boards. Other games are Zombicide and Zombie Munchkins. My count of monsters killed in October is 259, so far!
With my game group I played Horrified, Eldritch Horror, Mysterium, Villainous with the new Oogie Boogie expansion and Mists over Carcassone. My daughter picked up both Toilz and Troublez and Spellbook and I will try those both on Halloween😊 I was glad to see you cover them so I know what I’m getting into😮
This season we played BOOoop!, Horrified, Small World and Dungeon Mayhem! The last one has a lot of take-that and card combo action but is super cheeky and a fun play on DnD. I too have Goblin Vaults - I was interested in learning more about the Roll Player universe - but don’t think it’ll stay long in my collection for the reasons you pointed out! Thinky but not fun enough.
I am thinking about picking up Halloween: The Board Game. Some go-to Halloween games in my collection are: Abomination: The Heir of Frankenstein The Thing: The Board Game Letters from Whitechapel I need to get BOOooop., The Shining: Escape from The Overlook Hotel, and Legends of Sleepy Hollow to the table.
It was difficult for me to accept that board games cannot be scary the way ttrpgs can lol, but Nemesis: Lockdown gets pretty close. It's a heavy game themed around essentially the Alien movie franchise and results in a lot of fun cinematic moments, definitely my October game

I make many scripts for Blood on the Clocktoeer and love running it all year but this time of year especially.
