    As someone who ONLY has a Steam Deck, nothing else, GeForce Now is simply unreal. To be able to play Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, No Rest for the Wicked, Manor Lords etc at maxed out settings, handheld, with insane battery life. It’s actually absurd.

    It would be nicer if they could release it on Steam or as a flatpack instead of a script, to have the extra security and easier install. But at least it is fairly easy to install with the script and hopefully nothing bad happens to the script (neither maliciously nor accidentally). They have a manual install one can check without having to look at the script itself to figure out what it does.
    If it was released on Steam or flatpack it probably can also easier have per device settings saved compared to running in a modified internet browser.
    Nvidia also started to have employees officially help with their GPUs open source drivers for Linux, so it interesting all the pro Linux things Nvidia has done recently with this too.

    I played Alan Wake 2 streamed from my pc at 4K and the downscaled to the steam deck resolution. I tried setting the game to 800p but found it didn’t look as good, hair was noticeably less detailed for one.If you have the power no sense not to render at a higher resolution and let it downscale.

  • @finraziel
    @finraziel 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I like the idea of GeForce now and I might even consider ditching my big expensive and power hungry PC to just use that... If it could just work the way Nvidia originally set it up. That is, just work as if it's your PC, just running somewhere else, but have ALL your games. Unfortunately greed interfered and publishers didn't think that just because you owned the game you had the right/license to play it on a cloud system, so more and more games got pulled from the service and now games specifically have to opt in on supporting GeForce now.
    I just checked some of the games that I still have on my list of games I really want to play at some point and there are just too many that are not available on GeForce now... Like Hogwarts legacy, armored core VI, all the Sony games, Jedi survivor, any final fantasy, even Dave the diver (though that could just run on the steam deck, but just to illustrate)... I honestly find more games that don't show up on Nvidia's check page than that do, and I'm looking for big titles here.
    Some of these can be played on other cloud services (which of course is the whole point) but I'm not going to pay for multiple services or constantly switch around what I'm paying for (not to speak of dealing with different levels of quality and ways to use the service). That just makes it a lot less appealing and I'll just stick with local hardware.
    It's kinda funny and sad to see the gaming industry making the same mistakes as the movie/series streaming services, with everyone guarding their IP jealously on their own platforms, effectively chasing people away from streaming entirely.

      If this is the case, this is a major deal breaker for me. What good is it if I can’t run half my library. Almost everything I am buying right now is specifically to run on the SD, and if the game doesn’t, well that is the loss of the publisher and no skin off my back. I have a massive backlog of games to play already with not enough time so caring much about a new game that is overpriced, not optimized and never works correctly upon release is their problem not mine. I will wait a year and pick up the finally working properly version for half the price. Agree with you that this sounds so promising, but like everything else publishers seemed to have screwed it up

    The only thing that annoys me about GeForce now is that you have to own the games. I had like Xbox Game Pass because, for a subscription, you can play games that you don't have to buy. I wonder what it would take to get that kind of functionality in GeForce Now.

    • @Flobert16
      @Flobert16 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most people hate, subscriptions. I will always prefer ownership on steam. I own my saves games and screenshot. And I can play the on the GeForce now and stop it when I want and not lose everything like Stadia did. It would be stupid to remove that functionality.

    • @smidlee7747
      @smidlee7747 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Flobert16 I agree. You can save some money on Gamepass playing $70 game for a few months that you will never play again but playing a game like Vampire Survivors for a month ( a total of a month over time) costs you more than owning the game. Play Vampire Survivors for a month on Gamepass $10 , buying it on Steam $5.
      Gamepass is still a good deal if you play a few on the newer titles. Persona 3 Reload I played for two months and didn't play for a month on Gamepass so it cost me $30 .. but of course I don't own the game. Yet by the time if I want to play it again it will on sale for maybe $30.
      I calculate half the price of a new game to determine if I got my money worth on Gamepass to continue paying for it. As long as I break even I'm happy.
      Now I'm playing Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes which is $50. Half that is $25 thus if I finish it in 2 1/2 months I broke even.

      It really depends on your internet connection and how fast the service is. I haven't used GeForce now but I've used Xbox gamepass streaming. When Forza horizon 5 was new I found it unplayable due to inputlag, felt like I was drunk swerving across the road because I was always too late to start or stop steering. But later on Microsoft improved something and I just couldn't tell there was any lag at all anymore.
      But I live in a small country with great internet connectivity and lots of local data centers. If you live somewhere with worse internet or the data center is far away, the experience will be a lot worse.

      Let say someone is on a budget and have an out of date PC. This PC (desktop or laptop) can play indy and older titles but not current triple A titles. They would like to play demanding games on a 4080 for example which cost $20 a month. On Amazon a prebuilt 4080 desktop is $2000. That means you can pay GeForce Now for 100 months for the cost of owning a prebuild PC.
      If you already paying for a good internet connection GeForce Now can be a good option instead buying a new pc.

    Can somebody inform me on what the exact usage case is that brings any value for GeForce now? I have PS5 and Xbox Series X streaming locally when in my house with perfect performance on Wife 6E. I have Gamepass remote play anywhere in the world with XBplay. The only thing I really lack is Chiaki4Deck remote play ability outside my house, which I could set up, but since I travel to AU a lot, the lag would kill me anyway. What does GeForce now bring to the table as it is only for games I own anyway and could run locally on the SD when on travel. What am I missing here? What I really need is PSplus remote streaming from PlayStation as I am playing a ton of RPG’s for free through that service including DQ11S, multiple Star Ocean titles, FF XV, FF SIPO etc.

      I mean. Not everyone has a PS5 or Xbox Series X so clearly would have more benefit for them. Nonetheless it provides far better battery life than playing locally, higher graphical fidelity and performance and adds compatibility for games that can’t run on the deck. For example, I play a lot of Destiny 2. With GeforceNOW I can use my deck to play it. In my experience it is more reliable than Xbox Remote play too and doesn’t then clog up my Xbox so my partner can still use it to play or watch shows. Maybe there are less benefits for you, given your set up. But there are many benefits to others. Not to mention, it has a free tier. So a useful tool

    Geforce now is great and I have an account (not paid) but tbh I never use it co's My PC plays games native 4k ultra in 95% of games if not 1440p for the other 2 to 5% and my Rog ally plays most games 1080p high settings so usually play games that won't run on my Decks on my ROG ally or PC. But it's great for people who only own a deck.

    South Africans, just know ur SOL.. There is no free teir here, it's only hosted by Rain Mobile and therefore costs a fair amount pm, then on top of that, its sold out since its beta for the past 2 years.. So this just takes you to a forced paid service through the worst ever mobile carrier in the country... so GGs no fun here in SA.. Greedy Mobile operator and Government.

      @@AmiciaGaming19 That's true with all the PC handhelds. The Ally and Go has a general purpose apu found in mini-pc and laptops
      There are a lot of good games that has no problem running on these handhelds. The games that seems to get the most attention is the most demanding games that these handhelds struggle with.
