When I was a kid I was travelling with my mom and they were playing this song in the bus. when I grew up I always remembered the song but didn't know the artist and the title I had been looking for it and today I've found it much love from ghana
Omg i have the same exact story , i went to Ghana with my mother and sister in 93 and this song was all over the radio, i always remembered the course “ batongo” lol tried for years to find out who sang this song, thank god for youtube 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Last time I saw Angelique was at the Roxy in Hollywood. Before she played her set she circulated among the audience. She personally greeted everyone of us individually, conversed with us, and thanked us for being there. What a Queen she is!!
Thank you Angelique , my 6 yr old Ghanaian American daughter is loving you right now, shes like daddy i love her voice , is she from Ghana.. sadly not but she is from Benin and all africans are one. Im gonna blast wombo lombo, agolo etc to send me down memory lane... Accra ,Ghana ...
I heard this song on the radio when i visited Ghana for the first time way back in 93 and i always wonderd who sung this song because when i came back to Canada where i was born i heard the same song on a international count down on a Canadian station and was shocked that i was hearing the same song. I guess the song must have been hot at the time and i never got to hear who the artist was which has been in my mind the past 26 years. Up until today may 29 2019 i was watching African voices on CNN and they where showcasing Angeliques music and the voice hit me instantly and brung back the memory of me in ghana as a child. Thank god for youtube because i youtubed it and it came up right away. Thanks for the beautiful music, I am a proud 1st generation Canadian Ghanaian. Bless up
ma mère me la chantait quand j'étais encore très jeune. et jusqu'à ce jour j'aime cette chanson et surtout Angélique KIDJO. Elle représente bien le Benin

One of the coolest videos ever! We've seen her live twice in Chico, CA and she gave wonderfully uplifting performances both times. No sitting still during her shows!
Love this song since 1991.. here is, roughly speaking, what the song says: she's talking about a beautiful girl with good hair, braids that reminds her cultural origins, and when she (Angélique) sees her, she is filled with joy. Then, she's asking her to dance, to move her butt, her hips on her song. 😊😉
Thanks! I saw her live a few years ago, she is so amazing. She invited me and lots of other folks up on the stage to dance with her and we had a ball! :-)
Benin!? Please correct me if I'm wrong! Cheers from Sweden! A million thank's for upload cojwat! Name of bassplayer please! We are not alone - at all!!! Peace - and love!
I love this song, because TheFilipsutka is right, it was played in that italian movie. We had to study the film at uni, in one of my cinema seminars, and I remember loving the song so much; The lecturer asked ME out of the hundred of other students what I thought of the opening sequence, and all I could come up with was "the song's great!!!"... it was true but she probably thought I was a complete idiot as it wasn't that relevant to the course. Anyway, I LOVE it, brings back good memories
I remember seeing her drop backflips in the middle of a song, without pausing to even catch breath. Amazing gig, great voice, also love her version of Malika. x
I first saw this video on BET around the time it came out. I always remembered it vaguely (I thought she was saying "ta-tonga" then heard it in a restaurant where I was Sunday night. Thank heavens for Google search so I could finally find out what the artist and title were!
When I see dance crews dance with luminous effects today, I'm like 'Angélique set the pace!'. This woman, even at that time, had the most creative videos.
Waouuuu je ne savais pas que ce chant était à elle. Jai connu ce chant dans mon enfance ( 1997 ) 8 ans après la sortie de ce chant. A présent je suis content de le retrouvé sur youtube. Merci mon voisin. Ce dimanche 04/01/2015

Africa didnt 'invent music', it's a god given thing to like repeating beats, it's in our blood. Even animals like it.
