CDTA 905 Bus Plus Ride: 2021 New Flyer XD60 5519 from Albany to Schenectady via NYS Route 5

Footage of 2021 New Flyer XD60 5519 operating on the CDTA 905 BusPlus route. This bus route is CDTA's attempt at BRT, and was the first of such bus routes in the Capital Region. The 905 operates between Gateway Plaza in Schenectady, and the Greyhound Bus Terminal in Downtown Albany. Most of its route operates along the more urban/suburban part of NYS Route 5, making limited stops along the way. Local service on Route 5 is provided by the 1 (Colonie Center to Downtown Albany) or 355 (Schenectady to Colonie Center). The more rural parts of Route 5 are served by the 602 which goes to Amsterdam in Montgomery County. The 905 provides connections with the 602 in Schenectady.
Unlike other BRT routes, the 905 does not have off board payment or all door boarding, and often times has no dedicated bus lanes. Fleet-wise, the New Flyer XD60s are a less common sight on the route as the majority of the route consists of Gillig BRTs in the BusPlus scheme or standard local scheme Gillig Low Floor buses.
This bus did not directly serve the Gateway Plaza station because of ongoing construction around the area. The construction is related to infrastructure and accessibility improvements. There will be an actual bus station with bus lanes located within the area and off of local streets, with space for park & ride options (to/from car, bike, scooter), as well as space for intercity bus line services by Adirondack Trailways and Greyhound. In the meantime, bus service is temporarily detoured along State Street, and turning around west of Gateway Plaza and under Route 5 (via Gateway Landing Plaza and SUNY SCCC).
