I started to go through all these 2 days ago for the 10th time probably and I had to comment on this one because I was a WTF maniac from 2012 till around 2017 it was my favorite thing in the world. I still eventually listen to every episode but I miss THIS period of Maron. That's on me not him. He's still great but this was my treating Maron like he was the Motorhead or Ramones or the dead. He was really dangerous and insightful and he still is but back then it was just something in the air. Still love Maron and love that all the KPCS ARE STILL UP.❤
Very interesting hearing Maron discuss the legacy of comedic performance in an academic, macro fashion. Creating a clown, etc., quite nifty and providing a beautiful sense of time-honored perspective.
2023,.......Ha!........First: Thanks to Kevin's interview show, it helped me through the 2020 & 2021 Pandemic/Covid shut-downs,.....where we were stuck in our homes more,....especially if you are older, as I am, in my mid to late 60s. He's a great interviewer. I loved almost all the shows,....ones I didn't weren't his fault, just some of the subjects,...weren't my favorite people. I'm back again to watch the ones I missed the first time around.
I feel like I'm late to the party... binge watched / listened for the past 3 days. Loving this show... the Larry David interview alone justified the entire thing. So good.
I'm not a comic, just a "funny" person,....and when I used to get super depressed, I was my funniest. Strangers and friends alike would suggest I go into that line of work. Instead I expressed my humor in college, & grad school, and later at all the jobs I held. It served me well when I was a college instructor, and when I worked in retail. All my employment was in "the Arts",...art related businesses. Art gallery work, design work, and picture framing. My customers were my audience, and they always gave me positive feedback. I made friends with my humor, used it as a tool, to make friends with strangers.
Yay TINDER BOX,......My Pop smoked a pipe, and I was always loved the smell of pipe tobacco, not burning and being smoked, both. I also used to browse in the Tinder box store,..these sold pipe tobacco and really fancy, expensive cigarettes. Not your run of the mill "carry-out" brands,...but special ones from all over the world and ones produced for people in New York. Nate Sherman was the USA, special brand only sold in high-end smoke shops. This was in the early 60s & 70s,....when I was growing up. I didn't try cigarettes until I was 13, and I only puffed on them, for the smell. It wasn't until I was 30, when I tried them for real and "learned to like them",....This mainly was because at my job, the smokers could take mini-breaks from their job duties, to grab a smoke break. Time to goof off and talk to fellow employees. They could be taken at will, whenever. It was allowed, and our boss didn't seem to mind. When I wasn't a smoker, I had to continue to work, while they all left their work stations. I could take "pee breaks", but it wasn't the same. Smokers enjoyed social interactions with each other. I never became addicted to other vices,.....though I sampled them, for short periods of time. Beer, hard liquor,....weed,..hashish...cocaine,...LSD,.....I dabbled in those ones, but I never became addicted to them.
I absolutely love dark comedy. I myself have a dark sense of humor that's backed by trauma and pain and Marc taught me how to be classy with it and how to learn to love the ceiling fan when shit hits it.
If you are actually asking and this isnt just rhetorical, I find Johnny Carson is an example of generational pop culture. Not everyone finds him funny, but it's more a mile stone in time to what humor was available via TV. The majority of TV talk show hosts I find lack humor. No one can make everyone laugh, but many contribute to the evolution of the art. ✌️

Love M. Maron. and this interview proves what a brilliant, honest, funny person he is. Thank you M. Pollack for doing this.
This is NINE years old with only 67k views ?!? What a hidden gem ... two of my now favorite interviewers.
"I took a job doing an Internet TV show--which is gonna fail!"

Kevin pollak is more talented than anyone on late night tv. This needs more attention.

[walken]Fantastic![/walken] discussion. Learned a lot about comedy history in this podcast. Thanks.
Who do you think the "bitter comic" is that claimed the "My ride's here!" joke?
Jimmy Pardo and Never Not Funny are the true pioneers

That's a long intro...
I absolutely love dark comedy. I myself have a dark sense of humor that's backed by trauma and pain and Marc taught me how to be classy with it and how to learn to love the ceiling fan when shit hits it.
I love marc maron he is my alter ego :)
Someone give this man a late-night talk show.
It would ruin the format.
Christopher Walken.........nice impression.
Sam is more like the Paul Reiser of the show
.HOW THE FUCK DO I COMMENT ON SOMEONE ELSE'S COMMENT?????
MARC MARON FOR LATE NITE!!!
+Spray (w/conanobrien)
Maron #98

Lock the gates!
Dam I find Marc to be Very attractive!!
Did anyone else get really hot when Marc was talking business at 54:00 onward? Or was it just me?
It’s always fun to see Pollak show his racism so casually.
???????
Always wishing Maron would eschew the "Liberal" label, be honest, and simply admit to being a bitter angry Leftist.
Awww 😢
Poor Marc Maron lacks the one thing he needs to do something with his show business career, talent ...
00:50:09 poot
Unbearable impression. Guest needs to get a haircut and quit smoking.
Why do people think Johnny Carson was funny? He wasn't. He kinda sucked
