Yay! Another very informative and helpful vlog! You two are definitely the best at giving details and guidance for visitors to London. Really hoping for a video if you ever go to Yorkshire!
Tipping is optional. Great info. I would start that walk from the Tower Bridge tube station ( Take the tube, Circle & District lines stop at Tower Hill…) when you exit the station, you have the Tower of London straight in front of you. You can stop there, have a wander. Later cross the bridge heading for the South Bank, in direction to Borough market, Southwark cathedral, Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, The Tate Modern ( stop here for a drink with spectacular views from the coffee shop inside the museum…) cross the Millenium bridge to see St.Paul’s.. But return to the South bank and continue walking towards the London Eye. Usually, lots happening in front of the Southbank theatre. Continue to the London Eye. A tourist trap! You will see the Westminster bridge, cross it for Big Ben then head for Whitehall which will take to Trafalgar Square. From here, head towards The Strand. Walk until Southampton street which is on the left hand side. This will take you to London’s Covent Garden where you have everything at your disposal for families and single people as well as couples. From here you have the Tube to get home ( Piccadilly Line ) or you can walk towards Leicester square and then on to Piccadilly Circus to end your day’s walk. Best of all, it is absolute FREE to do!!!
One tip i think is to download and be aware of the tfl tube map that shows walking times between central tube stops as quite often if you are travelling just one or two stops its as quick to walk and you see more of London
Thanks for sharing! We always prefer a walk through London. In our neighborhood of London, we would walk to a further station as it was nicer and the walk was more enjoyable.
hi! Good to see you guys again. You helped me a lot with my Hawaii trips 3 years ago. You made me feel like I'm running into my old friends! Going to the UK next year. Your videos are always helpful! Thank you!
were headed there 2nd week of may. I went 10 years ago but my wife has wanted to go all of her lift and I think our toddler will enjoy it because he loves, trains, big busses and parks.
Rule no.1. Don’t think that you have to visit all the tourist hot spots. If you have only a few days then just using the London Eye for instance (which is 90% tourists) watching Changing of the Guard (100% tourists) or hanging around Piccadilly Circus (99% tourists) can easily be skipped for walking the real city. London is enormous and while there are many areas not of interest there are also many that are not overwhelmed by visitors and give a better idea of the city.
Thank you for this great information! This is going to be super helpful for my husband and I on our upcoming London trip. It will be our first time in the city :)
I'm glad it helped! Have a wonderful time and check out our free London travel guide to help with your planning: yourguidesabroad.com/london-travel-guide/
Erica loves finding good coffee. Monmouth, Erica loves Gail’s lattes, Prufrock, Workshop, Assembly, and our friend helps runs Roasting Plant Coffee. They are all specialty shops, except Gail’s. Have a great trip!
Port out starboard home is claimed to have come from the trip between the UK to India. An extremely busy route during britains colonial rule. The claim being that POSH Would keep you on the shaded side of the ship both ways, keeping your cabin cooler. However, it’s not true. There is no record of the word deriving from sailing
I say this a lot but if you want to travel and are looking for ideas to help afford it… I suggest getting a part time at a hilton… any hilton. I work at a Hilton and they give the best employee discounts. The employee room rates start at $40 a night. Hotel jobs are very easy to get without experience. Work for a few months to save for your trip and book with your discount! I have a london trip coming up and was able to get $40 a night. Also employees dont have to pay resort fees and if the hotel has a restaurant you can get 50% off the food if the hotel owns the restaurant. Something to think about
I think you just found out retirement plan! Brilliant idea, thanks for sharing. Far easier than working at an airline and lodging can be more than a flight nowadays.
You will have to pay a foreign transaction fee if your credit card has one, most do. We recommend getting a no foreign transaction fee card for your trip. We share some here: bookedwithpoints.com/
This is well done and I would say fairly accurate. Well done. Though the Elizabeth line is not more expensive than the tube! Always recommend that as the best travel, unless you are staying somewhere close to a Piccadilly line tube stop.
How much in average should I pre-load on the oyster card? I am traveling soon and worry about the international transaction fee on my card. I have watched several videos and love your content.
Thanks for watching! The daily cap for zone 1 is £8.50. You will hit the cap if riding to the attractions. Full it for the number of days you expect to hit the cap.
Yes, you will save money. Grocery stores are conveniently located. Make sure you try some meals out to enjoy the local food. See our food experience video!
Thank you so much for this video! Planning our first trip. Question hope you can answer: If you need your own card to tap on the underground, what about kids? Do we then need to buy an Oyster card for them?
When you use your debit card does it need to be loaded with euros or will it transfer dollars to euros? First trip to London and Scotland next year and trying to figure out the money thing!
Your bank will transfer the fund automatically, you can't load it with Euros or pounds. Make sure you select "pay in local currency" on the machines as the bank gives a better exchange rate.
Yes! Pubs are not like a bar. We loved taking our kids to the pubs. Our son went to his first pub at 10 days old. They can even drink with you but check the rules on the age. See our pub guide for info too: yourguidesabroad.com/london-pub-guide/
Also remember that London covers roughly 606 square miles. The City of London is both a city and a ceremonial county. That is why they have a separate police service (City of London Police) to the rest of London (the Metropolitan Police Service - commonly known as The Met Police whose HQ is commonly known as Scotland Yard). The 32 London boroughs make up the remainder of London, which is often known as Greater London, which is also a ceremonial county, and while both are London, the City of London (as opposed to the city of London) is the ancient part of London founded by the Romans after 43 AD. The City is only 1.12 square miles of the more than 606 square miles. Your map of the airports inaccurately showed Heathrow to be outside London but it is in fact in the London Borough of Hillingdon. However apologies if you just meant to show it was outside central London. Therefore there are 2 international airports within London and the other 4 are outside London but part of London airspace. There are roughly 8 million people in the 33 London local authority areas (the City of London and the 32 London boroughs), about the same as the 5 boroughs of New York City, but in an area roughly twice the size of NYC.
Best airport to land in? Best way to get to hotel? Lower cost-budget hotels? wow LAX nonstop to London as low as $119. one way. Time to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (LAX-LGW) May 2025
Heathrow and Gatwick are the easiest to get into London. Elizabeth line, Heathrow Express, and tube (in that order) are our preferred ways to get into London. Take a taxi or tube from Paddington Station to your hotel. That is a great deal, do it!

How much discount does the London Pass go for? It’s 15% off price right now but will it go cheaper? Not sure if I should get now or wait….
We are not fans of city passes. One has to do a lot of activities to make them worth the money. See of the price goes down more!
great video as always 🤗
Thanks so much!
were headed there 2nd week of may. I went 10 years ago but my wife has wanted to go all of her lift and I think our toddler will enjoy it because he loves, trains, big busses and parks.
Have a wonderful spring trip to London! Our toddler loved the trains, buses, parks, and boats. Do a Thames River Cruise. Have a great trip!

Thanks for sharing Paul! That is a great tip. London is full of unique and historical places to visit that don't have crowds.
This is great. When is the London 5 day guide available to purchase?
wow, thanks for asking! We will have it up on our website in two weeks or less.
Our London 5-Day Itinerary is available! Take a look at it here and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! yourguidesabroad.com/itineraries/

Oh that’s great news! It used to be £12.80 so happy to hear it’s less now. Thanks for sharing that!

Wait a damn minute I just planned a Hawaii trip and suddenly these 2 materialized for my London trip 😂

Right now, I am in a solo travel in London. For accommodation, ofcoz it cost me around £100.00/night in Central London, near Victoria.
well done! that is a great deal. I hope it is a nice place!
Wait... I can use my regular credit card in place of the oyster card?
As long as it is contactless! We’ve been using our Apple Pay a lot on this trip.
Do you have a 5 day itinerary???????????? we can buy? Any hotel recommendations outside of the city near a train line?
We’re coming out with a London itinerary in September! We will email you.
Just to ask you..if i book stay via airbnb in london and ccok our food for 2..will it be good idea? Just to save money...
Yes, you will save money. Grocery stores are conveniently located. Make sure you try some meals out to enjoy the local food. See our food experience video!

Kids 5 and under ride free. we went through the double gate as we had a stroller too. Kids 5-10 can get a zip oyster card for free and reduced fares.
Guys, at 13:17 it should read Windsor and Eton (not Eaton)...
Thanks for catching that typo! Can't change it now.
Would love to see a segment on Camden 😊
We will be heading there soon. Thanks for the comment!

We use a babyzen yoyo. We love it. Fits overhead on a plane and easy to carry. We travel a lot so worth the $$$

It's that old saying, if you get bored of London, you're bored of life.
Sorry to disappoint, but the "POSH" thing is a total myth!
Merriam-Webster says you are correct! It is such a great, clean story though. I’m bummed it is a myth. Thanks for sharing.
However, Store High In Transit isn't.
