I can really appreciate the journey it took to become who he is today. Although I'm an engineer now for profession, I always want to do something creatively and have never found a way to make it work for a living. It's really hard to reconcile what is practical with what you would really like to do. My channel is at least an outlet for that.
It's really cool to hear the life story of a content creator you've followed for a long time. He tells it well too with clear themes of passion, lack of courage, and finally achieving the dream. Very humanizing and inspiring.
I found you through the gyroscope videos which were actually kinda straight forward and simple and I was just looking for someone to explain the phenomenon to me. I still remember it was at some Australian University and you probably also had a professor on the video or may be an instructor. It was kinda cool. I was in college back then and your channel has morphed into something else, something bigger now.
Interesting, it’s wild how the slinky simulates wave dynamics in real time. I’ve been working on a dynamic wave form generator that essentially proves that waves are rotational forces, pushing energy through time and space.
that supercooled water vid was the first one i saw and i remember the change where the videos got high quality all of a sudden and lost their raggedy charm. rip
Back in the 1970s, Douglas Hofstadter wrote a towering work, "Goedel, Escher, Bach: The Eternal Golden Braid". It is fundamentally about the core of the creative mind, and how human creative endeavors are fundamental the same, whether they're about art, literature, science, mathematics, etc. They AREN'T distinct things. Any creative person has within themselves the ability to be a talented musician and at the same time, a towering physicist, or mathematician, or engineer, or oil painter. Our minds are incredibly flexibly and maleable....
Kind of ironic that his channels name is supposed to mean 'element of truth'. Yes, he has some quite good science videos. But he has some abysmal shill videos, like the wako selfdriving cars and the rejuvination / staying young serum, which are quite frankly bad fewer dreams of bad evidence and conflict of interrest (such as the rejuvination and only taking the word of the 'researchers' wo also happen to sell it... which isn't mentioned in the video). And he won't take any criticism, no he agressivly attacks any detractors.
Oh man people really need to lose the illusion that some people are infallible. Accept people's flaws and learn to simply appreciate some of people's achievements among their failures.

I'm surprise how much Derek is trashing his old videos. They're not bad, they're just fine.
