Rodgers already had a calf injury in the off-season. That automatically weakens the Achilles. The same thing happened to Kevin Durant. Tears usually happen in non-contact situations. Can't blame any one thing. Injuries happen. We can just hope he has a good recovery and can come back and still play.
Aaron Rodgers is old. The Jets should have thought about this possiblity beforehand. They really set themselves back twenty years with the Trevor Lawrence debacle. We know that this is objectively a terrible event for the Rogers and the Jets yet at the same time there are going to be many who because of a distaste for Rogers or for the media hype of the Jets are going to feel a sense of schadenfreude. Life is that way . That said . the Jets have on paper a great defense , many skilled players at key offence positions as well as Wilson. Wilson is younger than Brock Purdy , had less college experience then Purdy , and played against inferior competition then Purdy. He also had a coaching staff on their way out in his first year and a new coaching staff in his second year . So the Jets are capable of making the playoffs with Wilson and depending on him and other matters ( healt of the Jets , injuries to players on other teams) there is no reason that the team may not go far in the playoffs. I am not even a Jets fan and I see that has being more than just a possibility . The good news for the Jets is that if Wilson plays well and Rogers recovers then they can get some real value for Wilson in a future trade.
