They all needed some form of family nickname often derived from an obscure christian name of one of their ancestors for example my father was from the Manus MGowans as his grandfather was called Manus.
l rem the times ,we were called camden rhinos , kilburn elephants ,cricklewood muck shovelers ,they used to say that irish was the most spoken lanague on many of the building sites ,and there were more irish speakers in london than conamara in the 50s

im second generation irish i drink round the pubs in nottingham no irish left at all now back in the 70s and 80s the pubs wre full of these irish site workers sadly 99% passed away now
My father and his six brothers three sisters came over from Sligo during late fifties to early seventies ,they rebuilt London and yet there isn't a statue erected anywhere to that half a million workforce ,that gave it there all .here

Infact I know to lads that go drinking in McDermott's in castlebaldwen not during the lough down but one day they desided to head off and the guards were pulling so when they came to the cross they couldn't put on the indicator in the car incase they had to turn and go a different direction but luckily for them the guards didn't heed and they got away all right
