      Fearless Trailhawk +1 on the skid plates. I’m kind of a newbie to off-roading on anything other than a motorcycle. I took my ‘19 TH off road for the first time last week and got a little too confident in one really rough section and I was really grateful for those skid plates. I never got stuck though😂. I think these need to be an inch or 2 higher from factory. They should’ve put the air suspension on it like they did the Grand Cherokee. I’m thinking about putting a lift on it now that there are some good kits out there for it. Jeep says you can put up to 2 inch lift on it without messing with the warranty.

    Great video. I used to drive a '98 Cherokee until it met its fate in a night time deer collision on the interstate. No time to brake, everything in front of the engine block was gone. But I walked away without a scratch, even the state trooper who arrived at the scene was surprised that I was okay.
    I was always curious about the underside of the new Cherokees. The redesign might bring me back to the Jeep world. I would definitely go camping, biking, or rural road tripping. If I am correct, all the Cherokees are now made in Belvidere, Illinois.

    Nice video! I have worked on a few Trailhawks and have been pretty impressed. The electronics on your rear calipers are for the parking brake. Jeep was kind enough to include a menu option on the infotainment system for pad replacement, some manufacturers make you use a scan tool to retract the actuators.

    The electric brakes serve 3 purposes. It is part of the E-brake. It is part of the stability control to prevent loss of control or vehicle roll over. And lastly it is used for the BLD or brake lock differential. ie traction control.

    Biggest problem with Renegade is “ No Low Range” .. if your looking for something smaller than a wrangler you have to go with either the WK or the KL … for me i Purpose built a Mint one owner ( old lady) 2006 liberty . It has brake lock diffs and share a large portion of the driveline with the TJ and JK… awesome overlander ..👍

  • @fordfiveohh

    Yes.... It uses the brakes for torque vectoring and for simulated lock faking out the open diff when the rear isn't locked..... The front has simulated lock also using the brakes to trick the open diff.

    Just a heads up, few different lift options out there. Look Up Hazard Sky or the "Aussie Lift" for a DIY. Also, Dobinsons makes a full suspension lift. You can fit a 32" tire also with a little pinch weld modding. Also, few options for rock sliders, MOPAR and RRO. These KLs are great, think the overlanding is really their strong suit.

    • @damyoulookinfly

  • @ElectricDanielBoone
    @ElectricDanielBoone 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had three of these now, two of them Trailhawks. Not great off-road, as their ground clearance isn't very good. Just try and crawl under one to work on something. When I do a lift it'll probably be a Dobinson. Bubba pointed out the exhaust hangs down and he's right. They have 2.5 inch exhaust which seems a bit oversized for the 3.2L, as the 3.6L uses that too. Using 2.0-2.25 inch pipe, deleting the exhaust bellows, goofy low slung hangers, clamp bolt that hangs down, resonator and tucking it all up in the tunnel would help. I can see on mine where that flat bottomed resonator gets jammed up into the driveline when an obstacle exceeds the breakover a little. The heatshield for the front driveline carrier bearing is the perfect mud scoop too. I think I'm going to tackle the exhaust system first. No matter how much lift you have you're always going to get high centered, on the trail, and I don't like the exhaust being the first thing to get hit. A little smaller exhaust pipe should work better for everything besides drag racing. At 75 mph the 3.2l only chugs along at about 2000 rpm with those 4 overdrive gears in the ZF9.

    Great video of the under body skid plates. I didn't realize those steel plates were so big. That's definitely a lot of protection compared to other SUVs that everyone compares the Trailhawk to - RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forrester etc and why it's so much heavier as well. Now we can all see why it needs that V6 or 2L turbo horsepower.

    These things are nuts. The ptu (think transfer case) houses the front diff and the front reduction planetary gears. The rear end is a 2 speed with a locker as well, that's how you get 4 low. The 2 speed rear end is there so full 4lo torque won't go through the rear driveline and twist it in half.

    • @EricLS
      @EricLS 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh interesting. It seemed a little oversized, that makes more sense now.

    • @sycoticone
      @sycoticone 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also let's you drive out after losing the rear end. I destroyed the whole rear, literally grenaded into pieces when it found a solid spot in the soup. Pulled out the transfer shaft and cv,s, and drove 80 miles home on FWD... there were a few codes and the dash looked like a Christmas tree but it got home. Now I have probably the world's only set of portals for it so that isn't an issue anymore, neither is 37s and ground clearance, plus the reduction makes the 37s drive like stock tires.

    If it's the V6 Trailhawk with the Factory tow package and extra fan on the trans cooler it's factory rated for a towing capacity of 4500 pounds by FCA. It's actually listed on their website and in my manual. I do know the other Trailhawks are indeed 2k lbs. I have towed a 26ft 4600 lb camper with expensive weight distribution equipment, and I can't even feel it behind me at highway speeds. Also, even your Trailhawk rated at 2k lbs can far exceed that amount without doing any damage to the trans or engine regardless of what FCA or people tell you.

    I do love my 2017 KL TH. Added MOPAR sliders and upgraded the tires to Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws. Good price, look great, sound fine, and they have superb traction in every condition.
    Still, going to lift it at some point too and upsize the tires. The extra 3 inches or so of lift will help me get even more places.

    I’m fairly sure your Trailhawk can do 4,500lbs. My 2019 can do it now that it has a hitch installed and it didn’t come prepped. Pull the build sheet and see if it has the heavy duty components and the fluid coolers.

    • @JeepinBubba
      @JeepinBubba  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2019 with a 3.2L was rated at 4,500, but everything before that was rated at 2,000. I think these little Jeeps could tow 5k to 6k easily, but there brakes can't stop that weight. The Jeep KL motor, frame, and suspension all do great towing.

    • @protaginets
      @protaginets 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would still check the build sheet. If it shows the upgraded suspension and cooling like the TH has, yours might be rated for 4,500. Doesn’t hurt to look. And you can always get a brake controller if you used the mopar trailer wiring kit.

      On my 2017 Trailhawk with a V6 Jeep said 2,000lbs, unless you got the factory tow package and 4x4 which takes you to 4,500. They actually offered a lower gear on some tow packages. Now the 2019 Jeep claims 4,500 for any Cherokee with 4x4. However, after towing 1,500 pounds with this Jeep, it had plenty of power but really lacks in the braking department. If you trailer has ebrakes and a antisway system then you might be ok, but be careful out there. Thanks for the comment!

      Stormer1092 the Renegade shares the chassis with the Fiat 500X crossover. The KL isn’t a rebadged 500L, the 500L isn’t even available with AWD/4x4. It’s(the KL chassis) very similar to the chassis on the Dodge Dart, the Fiat version of the Dart which is only available over-seas.
