Tobie seems to have a good grip on wood working. Thank you for sharing this! Sealing the wood was new to me and crucial it seems? You have a great wood eye.
Where do I start…This is the best! I’ve always had a love for wood myself. Every piece is different and needs to be handled with appreciation and love. It’s definitely apparent that you have the wabi sabi. Keep up the great work! Can’t wait for more of these.
I keep my driftwood natural with no sanding. However, I like the driftwood to be a vintage faded whitish- grey colour, not dark brown, so I apply a watered down driftwood paint in uneven strokes. It soon looks like an ancient driftwood piece bleached naturally by the sun. I get so many positive comments on my pieces when done this way.
Hello Rose B. Thank you so much for sharing your creative idea. I love when people collaborate and share ideas so we can all learn and be inspired by each other. Have a Gourd.geous Day!
Hello Hazel, thank you for watching our channel. We appreciate the suggestions, we use Murphy's soap for al lot of things, it is a great product. Have a Gourd-geous day!
Hello Mark, Thank you for the additional tip. We are so glad you enjoyed the video and the details Tobie included. We have lots of fun when we get together to record the various videos we post. Have a gourd-geous day.
Thank you for watching our video and asking a great question. I did use steel wool but unfortunately, it was edited out. In our video "Driftwood with Air Plants" at time stamp 9:33, you can see I am using steel wool after sanding to soften the finish. Thank you again for posting a comment and have a Gourd.geous Day.
You’re adorable ! (don’t worry, I’m not some creepy dude … I’m just a regular Mom) I think you’re doing a great job! It’s much better than watching the heavily scripted video’s that’s for sure ! As for your wood project … I never knew that drift wood took that amount of work to prepare ! I absolutely love the look of driftwood ! I also love the shape of your wood choice and it turned out beautifully ! Will you be getting into designing things with several pieces ? Thanks so much, Julie Canada
Hello Julie, Thank you for your kind words and encouragement! We have been working on more projects and hope to have them posted soon. We are in no way professionals, just believe in having fun and appreciate you enjoying our odd sense of humor. Tobie loves working with driftwood because each piece is so unique so you will never find another that's the same. Have a Gourd.geous Day!
Thank you, Bruce, for the support. We love to do things by hand, but we also like to use power tools when appropriate. Thank you so much for watching our video. Have a gourd-geous day.
Do you soak and bleach your driftwood? I have seen processes including the soaking, boiling and bleaching. What is your advice? I use them for bases for my glass art.
HI! Thank you for the question, no I do not use any bleach on any of my driftwood pieces. I personally prefer to have it completely natural the way I found it, unless I'm adding a wood sealer or paint or something else. I like the way nature leaves the wood. I have several pieces now, that I have aging outside. You do whatever makes your art more comfortable and appealing! Glass art is awesome! Thank you!
@@gourd-geousgals5674 thank you for the reply. in my place many have done it even they made it from wood veins and roots, some are made from wood fossils & some also complete it with carvings typical of our area. 🙏
@@idhambaztari3125 Hello Idham, Thank you for your interest and sharing ideas from where you live. By the way, where do you live? Glad you liked it!! We are having fun learning so much but so much more to learn. Come back next Friday for a new project. Thank you
Love it... Love the detailed video
You can also use sanding tool like a portable one with battery to get into smaller areas.

I do similar things and nice to see you not using power tools like many people do. By hand is by hand, not by b. Noisy power tools.
