This is a weird one that goes to some pretty dark places! There's also a secret morse code message at the end that you get by picking up the CD near the start. I've transcribed it and added the text as subtitles.

Ideas for horror games are getting crazier but this one stands out from the rest with its nostalgic and dream-like atmosphere that I feel like we need more of in general. It proves that a specific artstyle and surreal nature can make a creepy experience without trying too hard. Funny but such well executed idea all around

This had some pretty dark material as food for thought. Clever to give the player more questions than answers. Hope there will be a part 2!
This game caught me off-guard. I expected it to be short and spooky, yet it had far more than I anticipated! A very chilling experience worth playing through.
i absolutely adore the idea that garfield is the executor of some greater spirit, and how this game plays with that by having him lash out over not being the one in control by bending the things he CAN control until they break (they even double up on this with jon, his violent outbursts seem frustrated more than anything)
i wasn't expecting such a layered conflict in a garfield horror game, and i'm really pleasantly surprised

The most dreadful thing that could happen in this game is that you realize you're playing on a Monday and there's no lasagna.
The last Monday we celebrated Christmas. Or New Years if you consider yesterday. The hesitant shake as you reach into the doghouse. I was expecting teeth marks with black screen reading game over with "Odie says hello" scrawled in red text.
This is a definite horror game. Scared the crud out of me a good amount of times.
5 seconds in and the music is just wow. Will def check this game out
Edit: I did some digging into the song in the beginning and shazam credits it to “come with me - Zavoury” and it’s definitely a match except the song has a trap beat which was cut out for this game.

And the first song in the set is Feuer Frei (Fire at will).
People talk about how with Mickey finally in the public domain, we'll see crazy reinterpretations and remixes of the character, meanwhile with Garfield's creator is still alive and kicking, Garfield is still well within the copyright period, and we've seen some crazy and wild interpretations of the character in the last decade or so. Same with Sonic the Hedgehog.
I wonder if Heavily Protected characters like Mickey or Mario will last longer, if the more loosely and publicly redefined characters will.
But is there even a point to the character remaining 'relevant' if they've been completely transformed from what their original intention was? Garfield is hardly Garfield in the public perception these days.
Anyway, interesting game, not sure if it needed Garfield at all, since Garfield (as a character) didn't really play a role - rather it could have been just a generic cartoon character.
This game is a piece of art. Gives off some cursed vibes
The rough explanation of the plot is that it's told out of order, but this is due to a mix of amnesia, and a time loop of sorts.
Garfield isn't Garfield, but rather an ancient deity/demon that was sealed away, taking the form of a cat shaped wooden figure. An archaeologist finds the figure and puts it in a museum, and either that same archaeologist, or just a sap it can influence, later breaks into the museum to steal it, listening to its voice. Anyone who keeps listening to it and doesn't escape it slowly falls under its influence, allowing it to take over their minds, guide their actions directly, or put them into a hallucinogenic dreamlike state while awake. While under its influence, Jon is forced to commit murders as sacrifices to empower the being, and after some rebellion, is forced to turn an abandoned house in the woods into a kind of fortress, and then kidnaps a kid to be the new "host" or perhaps the beginning of a new cult.
The kid likes cat cartoons, so naturally the "voice" takes the form of a cartoon cat, garfield, so as to more easily manipulate. The "path" we walk, where we walk up stairs and through symbols, is us passing through the protective barriers in our minds to let the "voice" in. and giving them control.
We are given a "test run" of murdering gas station customers and employees while under the voice's sway, and a mixture of this and mistreatment by the voice drives Jon to seal away the voice, but due to all the murder, he and you are basically trapped in the house. Despite his efforts, he can't keep the voice from reaching you, leading to you committing more violence (why he didn't make you sleep in the garage where the voice can't affect you is "eh".) and is forced to put you down.
This leads to the events of the original demo- in rage, The voice with the power of your death, he pulls the house into a pocket dimension, where time loops infinitely, trapping Jon and by proxy the kids soul, where he tricks an amnesiac kid into breaking in, removing Jon's protections, and retrieving the idol. It is possible the events of the demo and the beginning of the game are the last day of the loop, in that the kid finally succeeds due to Jon being finally too weary to stop him.
Success however, just drops the kid somewhere in the loop during the "mind controlled" days or starts with the voice free of Jon and free to use the kid as its servant forever, though the "you burned the lasagna" makes less sense at this point.
Though one interpretation is the voice forgot it just gave its relic to the kid to burn...and that the day was the day of the stars aligning....so when they pop out of the time loop, the burning "lasagna" causes the death of the figure and the deity, making the irony of a "garfield" forcing everyone to relive a Monday endlessly, then being destroyed by lasagna.
very good analysis, but i'm not sure garfield and the entity in the relic are one and the same
garfield looks to me more like an avatar or agent, something created by the entity to carry out its will
he outright says he wasn't there for a lot of the violence, and there are times when he seems frustrated by his lack of control over the situation
it's like the entity directs garfield, but doesn't CONTROL him, if that makes sense
I have one question tho who is Odie, then it seems like he helps you to defeat garfield by showing the kid dead dog .🤔
Odie may actually be Jon, preventing the kid from properly perceiving him and snapping him out of delusion- the buried body may have been Jon's body, perceived as a dog's body. Alternatively, Odie's just a construct fitting the kid's hallucinations and is just an extension of Garfield. @@thedawnchilloutking

nah fr though this is awesome, you are the only youtuber i can find that finds that neiche "weirdcore" horror, stuff like this. i love it so much but its impossible to find, so you're usually the only one that gets me to play them :D, thank you from a long time fan!

Really interesting game. I really was expecting to go the easy way out of only playing the gimmick straight up for jokes and shock and given how the novelty of Alt!Garfield had already ran out and all, it was a nice surprise. Game dev pulled a nice bait and switch and did something that , while not completely original is quite charming by its presentation. It wasn't scary per say but I liked watching you play ABG!

Hell of a Monday. That one's not going to clear up for weeks...
I just played this and quit just at the end it looks lol ...I didn't understand what to do when you go for the key at the end of the hallway, thankfully this video is on yt and I figured the steps were not straightly visible... it's like, I just played a point and click game but feel like I watched a meme for over an hour... was a nice get away from the normal stuff at least. Garfield is like a batman villain now
