very beautiful indeed! a chinese tune is being played by a western orchestra, now this is something new! :D and they did it beautifully! more beautiful than many of the renditions i've heard!
It was originally arranged by Mao Yuan for symphony orchestras in the early 1950's. The adaptation for Chinese traditional instruments was done later around 1953 by Peng XiuWen.
I really like both versions of the song (Eastern and western). However, I especially like the use of ergo in the eastern version and the use of trumpets at 4:06 in the western version
It's funny that a lot of people here are remarking that this piece sounds amazing despite being performed with 'Western instruments.' The reality of it being the piece was originally a collaboration composition with the intention of a Western orchestra playing it.
I know it was originally composed for Western Instruments, but I own a recording on Guzheng performed by Bing Xia and it is magical to hear it on a traditional instrument.
The best western orchestra version I ever been listened before! Even the chinese orchestra that I'm conducting now can't do as well as the western version. But both of them are different kind of style of music characteristics, I really love both beautiful version of 'Dance of the Yao'.
Well, I hope the uploader will add on the information. Anyway the information (song title, composers, conductor and orchestra) are already in the video (0:21). Is Peng Jiapeng related to Peng Xiuwen? Maybe their surname made you think so? No. They have different family background and education background, but both are/were great musician with great achievements in Chinese music development. You can google for more infor:)
+Janelle Wong No. We have to dampen the note there. There is a cut. And usually at a long note, we dampen the drum just a bit earlier then the orchestra so that we don't stick out.
I'm sorry correct me if I'm wrong, he did dampen it at 7:21 slightly earlier than the orchestra, but at 7:18 he paused the tremolo for like 0.1 second then carried on, to me it seems like he thought it was supposed to be as short as the three previous long notes.

When you believe Stephen Schwartz was not influenced by this song, it is indeed a miracle.
Yep. I noticed the same. Now we know where it came from.
@@FlorianIrsiglera couple bars might be a miracle but this many? Maybe his past life was one of the composers
In fact, this piece is good for both Chinese and Western orchestra.
+Sue Wei
I love it when Eastern Music is played on Western Instruments. The combo just goes great together.
IKR
I play the Guzheng and I know how to play this song. This is awesome. I've never seen a Western Orchestra play a Chinese song O.O
Same! Im learning this peice with my school's guzheng ensemble and we're preparing it for competitions
it was composed originally for western instruments in Mao time, to quit the traditional Chinese music
Beautiful music like this is really touching to the bottoms of hearts and universal.
C64 The Way of the exploding fist bought me here after 30 years (slap on head)so cool and so much inspiration
great western orchestra with such beautiful chinese music...great conductor
I absolutely love this...if emotions had a sound, this would be it....Beautiful. I'd love to see this live
Phenomenal playing by the orchestra! This actually caused me to get tears of happiness.
Me too!
I played this piece in a youth orchestra, and it was my favourite part of the repertoire that year. :)
Playing this in my youth symphony right now. Full version too.
Very enjoyable song.

Stephen Shwartz’s When You Believe from The Prince of Egypt brought me here.
This is the hold music for our tech support and I'm so glad I finally found it :)
This sounds kind of like the movie,The Prince of Egypt. The last song
Elisheba Eric Wikipedia states that Stephen Schwartz wrote "When you believe" based on this song

It's the title. And, most people are not aware of it. I wasn't aware of it. I thought it was a folk music.
Metta. K. There is another rending of this on TH-cam played with traditional Chinese instruments. It's an interesting comparison.
I know it was originally composed for Western Instruments, but I own a recording on Guzheng performed by Bing Xia and it is magical to hear it on a traditional instrument.

Did Hans Zimmer “borrow” this song for his Prince of Egypt movie? Sounds an awful lot like “When You Believe”.

I love the pizzacoto soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much
Thank you--it would be great if you could add that important information to the video description above.
Is he related to Peng Xiuwen?
Audio has delay
There is a time difference in the actions and the audio
Does anyone have the complete score of Dance of the Yao for Chinese zither and orchestra combined? Thanks
GREAT
It's hard not to hear Mariah and Whitney
It’s written in 1950’s, much earlier than the two ladies’ song.
Perfect
Very nice! Can you please add the name of the conductor to your video description?
This would be great on otomatone
His name is 彭佳鹏 (Peng Jiapeng).
jean-jacques Fauquet he’s taking about the conductor while you’re talking about the composer, LFMAO
wow, like wow. you don't see western orchestras playing this that often.
Melbourne house :)
the c64 orchestra is coming along nicely !
Schade, dass sie am Schluss langsamer wurden. Aber ansonsten sehr gut. :)
There can be miracles when you believe
The Commodore 64 lives!
wow
show!
👏👏👍👍
does anyone know anyway in which i can get the score?
7:19 the timpanist thought it was shorter lmao

Well, I played this piece, and the part was poorly written: the roll are separated with a comma.
(and i just assumed you know cantonese lol cause i did a bit of some stalking sorry not sorry)
power ending
KC.
I'm in fifth grade but my school's symphony orchestra is nothing compared to this orchestra.
Im the youngest there most kids are either seventh, eighth, or ninth
Which youth symphony is that?
THE TIME WHERE BASSOON SHOWS OFF

lol
i see the resemblance
I prefer the Breakdance of Yao
LMAO !!!! Hey guys, go to 2:28 ~ 2:40 in the video and turn on slow motion, u will LAUGH ur A** off !!!
Um...why? Is slowed-down orchestration particularly hilarious?
I love everything in this video but the mole on the conductor's face
why the audiences can keep calm during the performance hahahahahahah
It doesn't even compare with how it sounds on traditional eastern intstruments, the dynamics and subtlety are completely lacking.
Ikr its nice but it lacks the "colour" of Chinese music, so to speak. It doesnt have the same flavour
LOL!
Honestly just not as good as on Chinese insturuments
beautiful... although half the audience looked rather bored lol
The audience looks disappointed
