Orchestral "Dance of the Yao Tribe" Composed by Mao Yuan & Liu Tieshan Arranged by Peng Xiuwen (1931-1996) China Central Chinese Orchestra Conductor: Chen Xieyang
History of "Dance of Yao People" Inspired by the folk songs of Yao people, Liu Tieshan composed Long Drum Dance of the Yao People during a visit to Youling village, Sanpai town, Liannan Yao Autonomous County, Qingyuan, northern Guangdong province, southern China in 1951. Mao Yuan, another composer, adapted this piece into an orchestral work in 1952. In the late 20th century, the song was used as the basis for several pop songs, in both China and the United States. The first 18 notes of the 1998 song "When You Believe," as recorded by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, are based on "Dance of the Yao People," although the Chinese composers of the original work were not credited.

What is crazy is not that the composer of Prince of Egypt (Hans Zimmer) used 瑶族舞曲, it is that he borrowed a CHINESE melody for an animation called Prince of EGYPT. If the movie was even remotely about China, it would have been fine.
HAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS THE MUSIC FROM THE C64 GAME "the exploding fist" i cant belive it! i like this tune since i was 3 years old with a commodore 64 ! Thank you for having this kind of music on youtube!
The orchestra really brought out the spirit of the song, though it was played slower than the version our school played. AHHH when can we ever play the song so well? *_*
I still remember in the 80s when I was learning Erhu. My teacher used to play this song when I was so impressed that I try to imitate as a beginner. 8 years later, I joined a local Chinese Orchestra and have a chance to take part in playing (as Gaohu) the version you are hearing. I was so glad and thrilled. Thank you for the composer. You've inspired me for my interests in Chinese music for the past 25 years.
Nice folk tune, with ethnic Chinese intonation. Ha, caught an issue - at the 3-minute mark, editing/splicing boo-boo, a note not in the composition I bet was there.
"oh my god the first part of this song is also the first 18 notes of the song When You Believe by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston and???who copied????hahahaha
To bleen2511: Oh only talking about notes, you're right. And that, proves music is not equal to notes or scores or rhythm... I knew this melody in my childhood and I got to hear "I will" years after, already in my adolescence. I love both but I'd never got that conextion like you did... They are just totally different to me, and NOT because their notes are different since "-ful (song)". We're able to love different things not because they might "share" sth that seems to be the same.

Heeey! The Prince of Egypt stole this masterpiece and I love this so much more! Thank you so much China!

As a Chinese girl who has studied guzheng for five years,I'm really proud of our instruments and music.

The song was created in 1952 first time. and you can check it.
One of the most beautiful, emotional songs ever composed!

The laruan is like a substitute for the cello, used in some Chinese orchestras. You can see a few of them in this video.
I really love it!

@Lyunz93 its a laruan, most orchestra uses cello, thats why its not commonly known.
Yes i agree with you. However, it's not composed for the Chinese orchestra originally, but for the symphony orchestra.
