It actually costs MORE to execute (normally) than to keep a person in prison for life. Death row costs, extra legalities and appeals, etc. end up costing MILLIONS.

Therefore, prisoners have a much higher chance of living out their life & dying from other causes whilst being held in prison. The amount of money spent on monitoring/staffing/needs for death row prisoners is surely more than if they were in general pop & didn’t need constant 1 on 1 surveillance and lockdown? not even including the legal cost to actually execute them
Innocent until proven guilty, you cannot assume someone killed someone just to fulfill your desire for closure, cases have to be built and evidence and psychologists need to evaluate people. Some people lose their entire lives being in prison when they've been falsely accused and it's discovered after their death, how is that justice?
I’m not going to act like I knew who did what, but there was something very off about the first kid. His tone of voice was very low, he had trouble with eye contact and he started scratching himself while he was telling his story.
The first one has a history of family violence from his father.. Maybe it was just school rumors.. But there was a lot done to him as a child. And the other has always had a speech impediment, he went to classes for it as a kid
You could see why Mosley was detached, he'd only known the victim for 24 hours. At least he took responsibility for his actions, heinous though they were. Myers was his childhood friend yet expressed no emotion whatsoever throughout. He was obviously the mastermind and had his friend murdered. I live very near to where this happened and talked to some deputy sheriffs who worked on the case. They all said that Austin Myers is the devil in the felsh. I am not sure if they showed it in the documentry, but the deputy talked about how Austin watched the color in Justin's face change as he held Justin's head in his hands. He described this is great detail and watched the life drain out of Justin. He talked about his eyes seemed to change and he could see his life leaving him. Austin is an evil, evil man.

Thought that too. I get that it helped motivate the other to talk, but then he had a foundation of material to manipulate and re-tell in his way. Even by the end of the documentary I had a hard time believing his story was 100% truth.
This honestly is not fair at all. The one who actually killed the victim gets a life sentence and the other one who was basically adding to the trouble gets a death sentencing. I understand that Justin was already dead before getting shot, and that the shooting was unnecessary, but why give him a death sentence?

For the case in California, Maureen McDermott hired her accomplice Jimmy Luna to murder her roommate Stephen Eldridge (also for monetary reasons). Similar to the Austin Myers and Tim Mosley's case, Maureen McDermott seemed to NOT have participated in the actual "physical killing" of Stephen Eldridge while Jimmy Luna, whom was hired by Maureen McDermott, recruited two other men and then stabbed Stephen Eldridge several times and mutilated Stephen Eldridge after the victim (Stephen Eldridge) died. On the other hand, similar to Tim Mosley, Jimmy Luna also pleaded guilty and hence also received life in prison WITHOUT parole while Maureen McDermott, similar to Austin Myers, was convicted and sentenced to DEATH (and has remained on California's Death Row ever since). On the other hand, I think that ALL four (Jimmy Luna, Maureen McDermott, Tim Mosley, Austin Myers) should have been sentenced to death for what they had done. However, since Jimmy Luna and Tim Mosley pleaded guilty to their crimes and appeared to be the ones who were "sent by the mastermind", life without parole seemed to be a slightly more reasonable sentence for them, compared to both Maureen McDermott and Austin Myers who seemed to be the masterminds of their crimes and also seemed to refuse admitting their guilt until "the very end" (based on the video from the above weblink about Maureen McDermott and this video on Austin Myers).

What about killing for self defence, say a guy has a knife against your throat and so you shoot him in the head? That is still murder. You still killed him, but you needed to. Both of the killers should have the death penalty, not so much for punishment, but to just get rid of them, and for justice for the family. They are literal scum.
