Well, this is a Swedish folk dance, and the standard choreography for the dance that we think of today is credited to Anders Selinder. So, mid-19th century for the version of today. However, the dance predates him, so the dance itself has been around for longer than that. Similar to how Jössehäradspolska is known from the 18th century, but Anders Selinder adapted it in the 1840s.
Just as you people know, normally we Scandinavians don't do this when we have a quarrel.
