Even as a Disney preferred, I think everyone agrees that Disney needs to make a move and if they don’t Universal can certainly catch up.
Thats why i think they should start working on expanding out of their main parks because Universal is going to start expanding out into other states and start building even more parks thats why if i were Disney i would think about trying to make a deal with Six flags and try to get Knotts or something again. I would understand if they decided not to do that but it would definitely be a big power play if your Disney.
If they were to go with a more logical option instead they could open completely new parks and resorts to start competing with the other chains, because there is going to be competition coming pretty quickly in the theme park business.

There's also the rumor that they'll buy Port Aventura, which if happens to be true they would attack Disneyland Paris from two fronts, north (Bedford) and south (Catalonia)

i don't think they'd ever do that, spain and england are too close to eachother where it would just cannibalise visitors to the bedford park that they would want to be their "flagship" ground-up park which would be a destination for european visitors as a whole not just domestic visitors (same as DLP)
That’s something I realized lately is that Disney has been slipping a bit lately and Universal has been catching up and is more likely gonna hit them really good when epic universe is open which explains why Disney has been a bit desperate in opening new attractions. What’s kinda funny is that universal fire the first shot and they might end up winning.

Being an annual pass holder to both, Universal is slipping far more than Disney. So many rides in disrepair, can’t stay open past 7PM on so many nights. Can’t manage lines well. Epic Universe has so many clones and bad ride concepts. Ministry of Magic is another Spider-Man clone. Wolfman is an outdoor spinning coaster with minimal theming outside of the queue. The saving grace is Super Nintendo World..
Disney certainly needs to up their game, but they are so much better at just about everything compared to Universal. They just know how to execute better when you give them the proper funding and that is beginning to happen.
I expect Epic Universe to be an epic failure within 5 years. It will turn into IoA - so many poorly maintained attractions. Again, the only thing they have is Super Nintendo World. The French Harry Potter land will be far less of a draw due to the Fantastic Beasts tie in and another Spidey/Transformers ride will be tired - even though it will have one new effect.
The people that thought Fast and the Furious was a good idea are still in charge. Meanwhile the Chapek led Imagineering is no more as the final link to Chapek is gone. Disney is about to spend and Universal will not keep up.

But, the rides aren’t exactly in despair and if they are it isn’t there fault the rides were built by different companies besides Universal and I know for a fact Disney has some troublesome rides like Rise of Resistance. But also at least Universal doesn’t clone their rides to every park (Disney clones: Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Peter Pan, Toy Story Mania) outside of Revenge of the Mummy (The layouts are different on each one) Spider-Man, and Forbidden Journey as each park now boasts there own unique lineup. If you actually take a deep look into Epic Universe. You would actually see that it is one of the best parks ever built with a good ride lineup. But again I can see your perspective and I respect it

Finally someone calling Epic their third gate. Volcano Bay is NOT a third gate no matter how much they try to convince me it is.
While I’m excited to see how Universal will do with their newest projects, it’s kind of ignorant to assume that Universal will be the “saving grace” of theme parks when they have also done some scummy stuff, I know people like to be optimistic but their new project can fail and have issues of their own, I’m kind of shocked people are so easily looking at Universal as a saving grace when it’s looking far from one.
Well, Considering that Disney also did scummy(COUGH disney genie+ COUGH) stuff and is neck deep into politics right now(COUGH ron de santis vs iger COUGH), I still think universal can and will play their cards right, While remaining apolitical and can bring entertainment and enjoyment to all.
When Epic Universe opens, I believe Universal will narrow the gap with DISNEY. But over take DISNEY is another story.
