The regimental march of the Leib-Infanterie-Regiment Großherzogin (3. großherzoglich hessisches) Nr. 117. Last garrison Mainz. One of my favourite German marches. Alas, no pictures of Hessian regiments.😉

2:18 May be, it is also of interest, that the march is officially called "Marsch des Hessischen Kreisregiments und des Regiments Landgraf" (Nr. II, 262 of the Prussian collection), in fact two former slower marches of two different regiments. A Kreisregiment was a regiment raised by the Imperial Circles of the Holy Roman Empire and formed from the contingents of a varying number of states. Especially against Turks and Louis' XIV France these troops fought very well. The first companies of Hesse-Darmstadt forming the nucleus of the later Nr. 117 were raised in 1697.
