I am pretty sure the Thai rotted cause you have it in waay to big of a pot. That way it does not really dry out enough, even though the top seems completly dry, the water is in all the soil just way too long. At least that's my experience, was main reason why people had rotted roots, when they asked me to check them (worked at plant store :)) SO I allways put aroids in fairly small teracota pots. Thats also why the root was sticking out - wanted to get to "better" part of soil, the top that dries faster :) That soil mix you made looks grat :)

    Late comment
When I had a thai constellation, i potted mine in a terracotta pot with a very aerial soil mix. Back then, my soil mix was 1/3 cactus soil, little regular soil, alots of perlite.
Mine did not rot. I think part of the reason was that I bought a rooted plant from the start.

I bought a Thia Constellation (same size) from the same Vancouver shop that you did about 3 months ago. When I got it there were two leaves and one on the way. New leaf popped out and I lost an original leaf (turned yellow and died). Now I am about to loose another leaf and no new growth. My soil mix is really chunky (lots or orchid bark) and I am definitely not over watering. Soil mix dries out so fast. If anything I may be underwatering. It also gets the best seat in the house (constant bright indirect light) I am glad to hear that I am not the only one struggling with this plant. This was a wishlist plant and a HUGE splurge for me. PLEASE keep us updated on this plant. Thank you for sharing. Love your content!

I've been having issues with my Thai constellation lately as well! It was doing great but was insanely rootbound so I repotted it. I guess I didn't make the soil chunky enough and I noticed the soil wasn't drying out fast enough. I repotted it and now it is doing super well :) Basically, make sure the soil is chunky enough that water drips through within less than a minute. From what I understand, lots of aroids don't want to sit in wet soil and so the soil mixture should be extremely chunky. Right now, my Thai is in a soil mixture that is probably 60-75% of the pro-mix orchid mixture that you showed, along with perlite and high-quality potting soil. I hope both of our Thais get better :)

My experience with Thai constellation is that when you repott it, it obly take Energie in fill that new area with roots. I reported is just slightly bigger and I had to wait more than 2 months until a new leaf was staring to grow.

Such a good idea using the avocado bag as a mesh barrier! I'll have to start doing that. I tried the coffee filter method, and sometimes it grows mold which stressed me out. Always love seeing your plant vids! 🌿🖤

omg I used to use t-shirt scraps because that's what I saw someone else doing and soooo many of my plants have moulded :( so i've switched to this now and I think it allows them to drain so much better!

I got a Monstera thai constellation in January. I didn't water it until a month after it arrived because it was dry. Then bam root rot. It lost most of its root system. It's still alive and has 3 big roots with no branching smaller roots left. I've tried different potting mixes, water, leca, everything really. I don't know what to do with it anymore. I feel bad because my Dad bought it for me for Christmas.

Great repotting! I'm sure your Thai constellation will do much better in your new mix sine this is more airy and chunky. I have one which I bought as small plant like your and after two years I'm seeing some fenestration on the leaves. However they are very beautifully varigated. I think they like to dry out between watering 0s and i keep mine on south facing window where she is getting plenty of direct hot sun which seems to like it. How is yours doing now?

Hey, I hear you. Do you follow me on instagram? That's where I have the largest reach, and thus where it makes the most sense to me to post important content - I have shared nothing but BLM content all week, attended a rally in my city, and tried to educate myself. There's definitely a line between doing the work and performative activism as well, which is why I have chosen not to vlog those events, etc. But you're right, I'm not perfect, and I have a lot to do to improve. Thanks for your input.

Don’t apologize! I 100% see where you’re coming from and agree with you. My following on YT is a lot smaller, so I guess I just assume most people here are from my IG and are seeing the information I am sharing over there. Really, I should be sharing about it on all platforms. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Honestly, this is an important issue to be aware of and many are out there to spread awareness. However, telling someone on how to operate their channel is not ok. This is a channel about plants. The fact that you brought up race and how life goes on normally for white people is also not ok. In my opinion, that's considered racism by judging someone for the things that they do/not do because of who they are!
