I want to give a big THANK YOU to Drummers Review for making this video of our Pancake Kit! Also thank you to our amazing dealer Drumazon, thank you Dan for providing the kit.
We are so pleased with everything said, just wanted to give our opinion about what's stated as negatives:
    - Price: This is an high end kit, using only the very best materials available, solid hardware, A grade veneers, quality heads, etc. The Pancake Bag has premium materials and it's handamde. So it's targeted to drummers that really want the very best.. If you take a budget pancake kit and change the heads and snare wires ( which you certainly have ) maybe it's not so cheap.. And even with that you'll not have this sound for sure as they are poplar.. and here you have a full A grade mahogany shell.
    - Beater not hitting the center: we decided not to go with a lifter simply because with a pancake one headed kit if you make the beater hit the center the sound goes dead.. the sweet spot is slightly above the center. So on one headed kits you have to know that the BD sweet spot to get some round sustained note it's right above the center.
    - Tom Holders: We chose to use 9.5mm/10.5mm because it's really standard as the only brands we know that use 12,7mm are DW, Gretsch and Canopus. So a 9.5mm/10.5mm is really generic and easy to find anywhere on brands like gibraltar or dixon. We sell with the kit the tom holders as an option for those that don't have it.
    - 12" Snare Drum having too much sound: We truly believe that is all about dynamics.. Any drums you play you need to adjust your dynamics to the sound you are taking and try to even it.. it's a rule to have.. So if you're playing and feeling that the snare is too high in volume just try to adjust how hard you're hitting to get the best even volume between all the drums.
    THANK YOU AGAIN SO MUCH!

I suppose you choose that tom mount because of the resonance which is very good for a one headed toms...good job

Picked up one of these, s/h. Perfect for rehearsals - just love turning up with one case for the drums, one for stands, one for cymbals, and a seat. That’s it! Sounds great. Just wish I could play it like Nick!

I'm 72 so for me transport wise it looks like a good idea. In most gigging situations, it would be miked up anyway. Tama's Pancake kit is less than half the price but this kit to my ear, sounds much warmer!

I put a Yamaha EAD10 on a Tama Pancake set and it rocked. So you're not really stuck with the Poplar shell thingy. Total price for both would be under the $1200 USD. Which is what this kit goes for (Unfortunately they don't sell this in the US ?). Do I think $1200 is expensive for the Groove Pancake ? Not really. You're getting a really good sounding kit that seems way more portable. I could see a lot of NYC drummer's digging this kit over the Tama. Easier to lug around on the Subway !

You could probably buy a decent kit, have it cut in half professionally, add some fittings and end up with 2 pancake kits for the same or less. I like groove percussion but the pricing for this is daft.

I don‘t think so. Either you get a worse job on the wood, the material is then not as good or it will end up a bit lower in price, but with more personal time investment. I‘m no drum maker though, so can‘t say for sure. If I can afford it I‘ll get a groove kit, but the tama kit also is enticing, but there is a German saying if you buy cheap you buy two times.

I am looking for a kit to add the Evans Sensory Hybrid System to... I do not want a heavy kit, but I want wide drums so it will be easy and fun to hit each of the ten zones of each trigger will generate when connected to the rim of the drums...
What kit makes a bit wider but shallow toms and floor tomes without costing a fortune?
like 14, 16, 18 but shallow like a double pancake?
    thanks!

If they were incredibly affordable and came with a set of low volume heads this may be popular. You could use as a practice tool and also a very small easy to move gigging set just with a quick change of heads.
I’m thinking in the few hundred pound price range at absolute most.

The good news is that such a kit actually does exist in the $350 Tama Club-JAM Pancake. It would be hard to justify spending almost 4x as much on this.

    • @joaogaspar9155
      @joaogaspar9155 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@effusivefugitive The bad news is that the Tama Club-Jam Pancake doesn't sound half as good as this one. So, one should decide whether it is better to buy cheap or save for a while and get a good sounding kit (with lifetime shell warranty, as they said, which I don't believe Tama offers)

@@effusivefugitive thanks for your input. To each their own. Its a matter of wanting to have the best or a chinese poplar kit. I thank Tama for copying our sizes and name, it's a compliment for our work from an historic amazing brand that we respect and admire.

To make your reviews better you should test kits like snares with few different tunings and with different heads, most common types...here I would really like to hear the toms with single ply clear heads

Not sure why the price is being put into so much question. Grate a mahogany shells with nice edges, brass lugs, beautiful finish? Price doesn’t seem bad at all to include cases too, but I guess that’s just me. Most of my kids retail for five grand or so.. Anyway, great review AND drumming as usual
