a good thing to note abt the g3 dolls is that the region they're manufactured in makes a difference in the vinyl of the heads. the ones made in indonesia seems to have squishier heads compared to the ones made in china!

Have you thought of making a bigger the pre-existing your hair holes I mean in the doll with a hot needle.
