This is a very different Surtr. She was changed quite a bit from her experiences at the end of her lone journey to Sami with IS4, finally confronting and overcoming the Surtr fragment within. Then add on to her some number of centuries of growth and it'd be more strange if she still had an arrogant tone like the old her where it was hard to tell where she began and the feranmut ended.
I think the name change is very symbolic. In mythology Surtr was the jotunn of fire and laevatain was his weapon. In AK the Surtr feranmut was effectively using "Surtr" the girl as his weapon, even naming her after himself. Now the "weapon" is the one in charge, and it's fitting for her to be Laevatain.

Guys, her personality has changed, she might be the same Surtr but she has changed as a person. Her different tone of voice makes sense and is likely intentional
It doesn't really seem all that different from my point of view, but yeah, we already know by her website profile that she has a drastically different personality, a shift in tone would make sense

I like her jp voice, but en feels out of place. I hope its just this particular voice line tho
honestly at that point they should have just made her a different character. Endfield going "its this character but not" is the worst part of its design and a reason I have little interest in it. If you wanted to use characters from the first game just make it a direct sequel like GFL 2 or else have enough confidence in your new game to not rely on characters from another game.
I knew this was coming the moment I saw my notification pop up earlier. But higher pitch than expected, but I love it.
She sounds like Provence, totally did not expect that. But her file said that she's a good listener. Maybe years of living and collecting her fragmented memories made her a kind and gentle soul

It's ok, I will die on JP voices hill anyway. Whether that's really her or a copy of her created by the weapon to hold itself just like before, I WOULD still love her.
She looks and sounds sooo good! Might just be top 5 red heads for me with Himeko, Red Hood, Vera, and Elesis. Can’t wait to play Endfield and “Just Surtr” everything! I’ve never played Arknights but I’ve gotten a lot of nice lore bits from comments she seems so interesting. She does seem a bit softer than her AK self though.

Honestly I don't feel any Surtr'y vibes from her EN voice. It just lacks that "Acting high almighty" tone that Yui Horie was giving.

I think the word you're looking for "Acting high almighty" is Himedere. You know characters who sound prideful and arrogant, this is also the characters that think of themselves better than anyone else. The best example of this is Noelle Silva from Black Clover.

She’s a different person now, everybody is expecting her to be the same and giving criticism for it, which is dumb. After IS4 and a few centuries I’m sure she’s had a lot of off screen character development, which is what the changes are indicating, but everybody is missing that.

I get centuries can change a person but Surtr's arrogance and short temperness was a part of her charm. Her description says she is a good team player and listener now so Surtr being a good girl now make me a bit uncertain. Looks great though in the new outfit but wish they kept the long hair

Once again, western voice direction not being able to do their jobs to save their lives. Do they even direct the VAs or they just shove them inside the recording booth and tell them to do generic voices? Even dubbed anime from the 80/90s had more charm and passion than this.
Some people are also coping hard in the comments just because it's Surtr and it's one voice line. This is the first impression you're portraying to Arknight veterans and also new players geniuses. This kind of thing has to be addressed now, or is just going to be Exia's horrendous EN voice all over again.

If anything it's director's fault. They've approved this performance instead of saying how to change it. But in any case it's only 1 sentence so it's a bit early to judge.
