    Arthur Gerber asked my grandfather Arthur Meunier for permission to hunt arrow heads and artifacts on his river bottom farm fields in Tell City Indiana and My grandfathers farms in Cannelton, my papaw also said Arthur worked on and off for him while he was in high school and the years to follow while Arthur became big time relic hunter. My papaw owned and farmed 800+ acres in
    Southern Indian, he was born in late 20’s

    I grow that type of tobacco Mr Garber is talking about to this day. How cool. And you better believe it’s strong. I cure it out, take a cast iron pan, caramelize some apple juice in the pan, put that tobacco in there, soak that tobacco up and buddy when you put a chew in, it’ll put hair on a wooden leg. Or you can smoke it and it will get you absolutely blistered-very interesting strain of Landrace tobacco. We find amazing points up here too in the Great Basin.

      Anyone born in America is Native American... No people are Indigenous... No one. All mankind arrived on this continent within seconds of each other during Earth's time. Seconds of each other during Earth's time.
      Far more Indians died at the hands of other Indians than from European immigrants... not even close. Wars and conflict, over territory/land were commonplace. Commonplace. Losers hit the road, were killed or assimilated, and not infrequently as slaves.

      Indians did not have a written language, a wheel nor horses, nor metal for axes, hoes or pots and pans... They largely existed just above cavemen standards and were thousands of years behind Europe and north Asia - China and Japan.
      Their Horses, for the Plains tribes, came from Spain via Mexico and into America largely during the 1500-1600s... Women were basically toilers all their lives.
      The romanticism of Indian life is pointlessly in the long-run only being created to perpetuate a grievance and victimhood and or sanctimonious mindset.

    I live down the road from the G.E. Mound I wish that you would have asked Mr. Gerber what was found there, I know what he put into his book about it, but there is more to that story.. No one has ever come forward on what was found, what was reburied or what was not reburied.. Mr. Gerber was railroaded by the Government, G.E., IU and the need to rebury as fast as possible people. One day we all wish to find out why they had to cover up what was found...

    • @ChasingHistory
      @ChasingHistory  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mr Gerber has a Book called the G.E. Mound Case, it Discusses the case in depth. He Is on Facebook. The Real Question in our mind is What information was lost when G.E. Choose to destroy the mound in the first place? Once a site is destroyed by what ever means (archaeological, or development), there s no going back. our aim is to bring awareness to the Value of North American History, and to Inspire future Archaeologist, Devlopres, Government institutions or the mear courious to work togather to learn as much as we can about the past and to preserve the history of those who came before us!. We hope that our channel not only educates but also inspires people to learn more and to have a passion to protect Archaological sites! it was an Honor for us to Interview Mr Gerber and record some of that history! Thanks for Watching!. .

  • @Justme-qn2qw
    @Justme-qn2qw ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You mentioned the divide between collectors and professional archaeologists. Nothing makes me more angry than to be told I cannot keep an artifact I found on public land. We the taxpayer own that land. I visited an artifact "warehouse" at a local university and they literally had dozen and dozens of boxes FULL of artifacts that they were shipping all over the world. Yet we cannot slip an arrowhead in our pocket or keep a stone bead. Grrrrrr!!!

    • @ChasingHistory
      @ChasingHistory  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      we understand, but keep in mind... you are not the only taxpayer, artifacts found on public land should remain in the public trust. private property, that's another story. we were not trying to be hard on any group, just trying to explain that a division sadly exists. it would be great if both communities could get along.

      I’m with you. The biggest group I butt heads with are curators and archaeologists. I have fluted points that I busted my tail to find and told they “belong in a museum” to which I say.. no sir. They’re find where they are. No matter WHERE I found them

    Oh, I just read an article from American Antiquities about this looter and his 1992 trial for stealing from the GE mound.

    • @ChasingHistory
      @ChasingHistory  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      what they didn't include in the article or the press is that General Electric bulldozed the mound to the ground before this incident. because they bulldozed the mound to the ground exposing all of the artifacts inside it attracted curious collectors to try and collect and save what they could before more damage was done to the cultural remains. General Electric is a Major corporation, with lots of funds at their disposal to ensure their PR looks good... so they flipped the blame on Art to try and make up for what they did. its a perfect example of a corporation destroying history and blaming it on people trying to save history, which is why we did an episode on art. hope this clears up some of the confusion

    U people have alot of speculation on what a blade or a axe is. A scarafical blade, that is a opinion. You have know idea what it was used for. Opinions are like assholes everybody has one.

    • @ChasingHistory
      @ChasingHistory  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @david... we completely agree that the word sacrifice or ceremonial is WAY over used by advocationalist when it comes to prehistoric native American artifacts but we don't think anything is wrong with speculation, especially in this case because we know the context that a lot of these artifacts were discovered. (which we could not share) these artifacts were discovered in the early to mid-20th century where sadly laws were not written to protect prehistoric sites. Art did a great job of trying to keep the context intact before most of these sites were destroyed with hist conversations with the finders. because the laws have changed art did not want to get into the Context of how we know some of these items are ceremonial or sacrificial. we wanted to do another episode with him, but sadly he passed before we could. so we tried to pass on as much as we could in this episode. our speculation is on pretty sound knowledge of the context in which those artifacts were discovered. hopefully these pcs will one day be in a museum or returned to the native officials and they will be able to use this episode to try and piece together the past history of these artifacts. we are here to help in any way we can.
      thanks for your comment, and we hope you will continue to enjoy our channel.
