Knowledge is lost when artifacts are washed away and lay on the bottom of the river. I commend the collectors that find these artifacts to show others how Indians lived long ago. The idea that preforms were collected and stashed away underground for future commerce items like money is today is so cool.
Thanks for this video. I will watch them all.

activists came to the museum near me and demanded all the burial relics be removed from display, now there are no artifacts to see of the local natives and the artifacts are sitting in a box somewhere in a basement... i understand the sentiment but now nobody will learn of their culture and kids are robbed of the experience

I recently read the book, The GE Mound Case by Jim Fisher. Mr. Gerber was treated very poorly by the government prosecutors in that case who were just looking for someone to put blame on. They may have affected his health badly but didn't really ruin his reputation, I don't think. He seems to have been a very affable and likable person. I wish I could have met him, as I have found some artifacts on the farm where I live and could learned much from him, I imagine. I will probably purchase his book eventually and watch your other interviews with Mr. Gerber. Thanks for this!

The quarry where the Pipestone for that Monitor Pipe is about 5-6 miles from my house. From my house you can see Tremper Mound when the leaves are off the trees. Tremper mound was excavated in 1915 and there were 136 pipes mostly effigy pipes. The main park in my city has a large horseshoe shaped effigy mound in it. I've hunted artifacts in and around Portsmouth Oh. for 55 years I absolutely love this kind a format getting the story from the horse's mouth so to speak. And Art is a national treasure.

Chase is a Historical Reenactor of that period and wears the pouch daily... its simply his wallet.... as he puts it... how smart is it to sit on your wallet all day? …..

the artifacts collected by armatures are generally collected in the "Plow Zone" or surface where their original context have already been disturbed due to centuries of agriculture. Here at Chasing History we believe and promote that proper archaeologist have the opportunity to do their job to record history as it was discovered. We are also aware of the reality that their is not enough archaeologist, funding, or museum space to properly excavate, catalog and house every artifact ever manufactured by human beings before modern development destroy these sites forever erasing important history. their need to be some system to allow advocational archaeologist to be apart of the greater archaeological community again, as they were from the 1920;s to 1970's all be it far better educated on modern archaeological techniques. we are trying to record the stories of advocational archaeology as we have the opportunity before that history is lost and to ensure some record of the history they discovered. hopefully in the future, everyone will have a greater respect the past and the desire to save historic sites will be more "Main Stream" …….. thank you for your comment!!!
