I've been dressing sharp the last few weeks (thanks to this channel giving me the encouragement and confidence) and most people say I have a peaky blinders look but I have never even seen the show so this is a good video for me to understand. Personally I do not like those caps but I do wear a fedora sometimes. One problem with watching this channel is that now I keep noticing faults with previous purchases such as my cursed shirt fittings that now I need to get altered. My first tailored 3 peice suit will be collected in a few days so Thankyou for the inspiration.

@@MuhammadAli-qh8tg every single time?? wow that's dedication, personally I only dress up to a special event, it can be anything, as long as its special and exciting to me I will dress up, for my birthday I dressed up, when meeting family for dinner I dress up etc, but streetwear I honestly prefer a bit more modern but still classic "biker style" of leather\corduroy jackets, jeans and boots

@@unrealwayx5011 For me, a lot of it comes down to sending out the right message. I do own some really nice casual clothing but the way people respond to me when I wear a suit is far more positive than when I would wear outfits similar to what you have described. It takes some dedication to suit up for every time I leave the house but for me it is worth it because I am working towards trying to improve my life one step at a time.

really appreciate that your assessment of the "historical accuracy" includes an acknowledgement that many of the choices the characters wear are the result of deliberate costume design! i feel like i often come across videos that are exclusively talking about what is Correct To The Era without considering that costume designer's job is to represent the characters, narrative, and setting in a particular way first and represent the era second.

In reality the peaky blinders existed before the 1st World War, and by the twenties had been removed from
Northern English towns by strong policing.
The problem is most TV shows never allow true facts to get in the way of a good story line.
There were major riots in the U.K. after end of the First World War, but we’re dealt with somewhat violently by the authorities.
Including sending a Royal Navy Battleship off the port of Liverpool, and turning its big guns in the direction of rioters, who got the message, and backed off( no shots were fired)
Remember having a British Empire that covered a quarter of the globe till the 1950s, knew to how put down major riots.

In "The Peaky Blinders The real story" by Carl Chinn (a cracking read that I recommend to everyone" he dove into archives of interviews of people who grew up under the reign of terror of the Peaky Blinders. One of them said that the name came from the hairstyle. They would" have it short all over apart from the fringe which would be plastered down the forehead over one eye, 'blinding' them". Another point to note, in the early days of the Peaky Blinders (1870s) an interviewee said they actually "wore billycock hats pulled over one eye, peaking the other side into the air and blinding the eye covered. " So it is still a point of contention on where the name comes from but it is certainly not the "blinding style" lol. Great video otherwise!

For a better understanding you should know that a cut across the forehead generates a heavy bloodflow down into the eyes, thereby making it hard for your opponent to see (much worse than sweat blinding the eyes).
Wiping tends to make the mess worse, and it all serves to distract your opponent.

I’m commenting before watching this but from what I’ve seen the fashion in the show is pretty spot on for the time, however the main characters break so many rules, rules that definitely wouldn’t be allowed to be broken by the time they get into high society and hang around socialites. Tommy will show up to a formal white tie dinner wearing a heavy tweed 3 piece suit, a collarless dress shirt, and a massive overcoat. They wouldn’t even let you through the door. However given his status and reputation, I’m sure most people understand that refusing him entry would result in their property being burnt to the ground, their entire family murdered and thrown into the river. They’d probably leave him alive just to let him stew in the despair.

I got the impression from another video that the “blinders” might refer to the way they wore the hats or the way they styled their hats.

So, I was welcomed in this video by a german-american talking to me in a Birmingham accent. Another day visiting this channel.
Edit: the most credited theory is that they had this distinctive haircut with hair coming down the forehead on one side, so to show it off they wore their hats tilted on one side, covering their eye like a pair of horse blinders would, hence the name Peaky Blinders

Not directly related to this video, but I want to mention that, Ada's clothing in S6 was adapted from Pol's, the actress of whom passed away prematurely. This decision is quite intended.

Don't forget Tommy Shelby was also in the army soul of men after the war they were very practically minded afterward does five ways wearing black gloves he's very practical Tony speaking actually and yet there's such a practical reason why someone would want to wear black was nothing like colorful gloves clean darker chances are you'll find that a lot of the times you can keep those clean more and say you know a lighter color parrot was I think let me know when you think by

They actually wore their hats with the peak a bit to the side and tilted down almost covering one eye, so their peak blinded them, to an extent.

What most men dont realize when getting the haircut is that a barber can cut your hair to look like tommy's but the barber cant cut your face to look like cillian's

🚨🚨🚨🚨 wow I think the video is totally amazing!!!!! Since I started watching movies about the Second World War, well, and seeing 98 movies about this theme and seeing the clothing of that time, I fell in love with it and everything related to the decade of the 20s, 30s and 40s for me is great since I am too young and well I imagine that in the future I will be living as in the past, and now I am watching this series of the peaky blinders and their clothing is very gangster. I came across this channel and I'm already seeing around 173 of your videos and I already know some methods that some young people could commit but I don't and thanks for that 🤝🤩

I think the caps were called peaky blinders because they have a peak and limit your range of vision like a horse's blinders (the immediate association for the word blinders back then)

I always assumed the haircuts were a military thing as they always reminded me of what I've seen on Marines my entire life (I'm from San Diego so there's a lot of them here lol).

If the disposable razorblades were first sold in 1903, this is not a conflict since the show takes place after the first world war, set starting in 1919.
It seems far fetched to me that they actually used this hat and an blades in a fight, but who knows. It's a good story in any case. Thanks for putting this together!
