Joshua is too green to go vs wilder. Needs afew fights before .. Not that wilder is great but aj needs more experience!
Shavers could certainly hit by I think his power is slightly overstated. Tyson could hit at least equally hard but could deliver the punches in fast combos which is more dangerous.
@@francisjtuk Not at all, Shavers, Foreman, Liston, arguably Lyle all hit harder than Tyson. In terms of pure raw punch power. Tyson's strength was his flurry of punches coming in at angles fast speed with power.
@@francisjtuk Franc, We often overstate Tyson' s power , as his giant offensive weapon, but watch his early fights, and you will see, it was ability to make power at odd angles, and on the back foot ( freakish lower back strength, and Cus' technique...plus sniper like accuracy from all angles.. his boxing IQ was high even as a young man, and he knew the weak points of the human body..
don't think Mike hit like shavers, but he didn't have to.. you never see Mike in a compromised position, or any lousy footwork.. more of a coiled snake that could put bombs of pressure on you and keep it up, until you inevitably get a step behind.. and then it's over.. kind of an evil acupuncturist rather than a blugeon..
@@planegaper I think Mike's real strength was throwing punches in bunches. Clearly Shavers had the one shot nuclear bomb approach but Tyson had shock and awe type tactics.
Ernie Shavers seems like a great guy totally modest throughout.
Even when he was fighting, he was a great guy. Go back to the start of the Ali-Shavers fight. During the referee's instructions to the two fighters, Ali was rubbing Shaver's head. Shavers knew it was all for show & he went along with it. Funny moment.

That was great. I remember Eddie always had a great sense a humor; so awesome to see these two legends just relaxing and enjoying talking about the past. You did a great job bringing out their personalities.
Remember in Shaver's era the Guy's we're not Bulky.If Shaver's was around today he and the Heavyweights of his era would be Heavier because that seems to be the trend today It is a change in the times.Earnie did beat guys who were bigger than him.His power was natural...He could ko anyone.
All these guys in the last 10 years try to be hardcore in the way they talk & behave, but the REAL killers, the really hardcore, they're soft spoken and gentle. I don't even need to name any names. You know the ones I'm talking about.

I never saw Ali rocked as much as in the Shavers fight. Holmes said he was knocked out cold when Shavers floored him, but that he woke up when his ass hit the floor. Ali was also out on his feet in the 14th round.
Joshua doesn't even hit that hard, it's just the accumulation of the flurries of punches Joshua throws that overwhelms his opponents. He throws combinations with decent power but he doesn't seem to have that single punch knockout power like say Wilder or David Haye have.
Yh because he's not that wild when he throws he's punches, he hits you with a combination that wobbles you he done it to whyte who has a good chin, and as soon as he connected with his one two on klitshko, the guy was wobbled so he does hit hard

Thank God Ernie Shavers is such a nice person. Ali fought everyone including Liston, and Foreman yet Ali rates it above their them. Ernie's power must be unreal. Archie Moore was knocking people out until the year he passed. I wouldn't want to get Mr. Shavers angry... even now.

Ernie Shavers is a good MAN. Watch his fight against Jerry Quarry, the Irishman ate his best RIGHT hand and fired back and knocked Shavers out in the 1st round. One of the best 1 round fights you will ever see. Big props to both Shavers and Quarry, I'd rank them both ahead of Mike Tyson as ALL time GREAT fighters.

I had a 27 fight amateur career and people asked me all the time who was the hardest hitter I faced and its soooo hard to tell. I got knocked DOWN (not out lol) once and I don't think the guy was in the top 5 of the hardest hitters I faced. Who can really tell? Maybe a fighter is having a good day or he catches you just right or you have different types of hard hitters (Foreman vs Tyson for example) One thing for sure, I wouldn't want to be hit by ANY of them. Fighters who fought most of the heavyweights all say Shavers was the hardest hitter so I'll take them at their word!
Then you never faced any real puncher. When they hit you, you know it's them. Because wherever they touch you it hurts. Doesn't matter if it's on the arms, shoulders, not a clean punch, or they just blast straight through your tight guard.
Even their sloppiest arm punch hurts as much or more than some other guy's picture perfect cross or overhand.
Getting hit by Shavers was like getting hit by a sledge hammer. It would literally shock you according to Leroy Caldwell, who was a big strong heavyweight ; saying after being hit by Shavers all he remembered was his corner taking his gloves off and telling him the fight was over. James "Quick" Tillis who is a darn tough cowboy said Shavers was the hardest puncher he ever faced and compared his punch 👊 to getting kicked by a horse. Ole school chopping down trees💪 strong.

You can tell by that shocked face Ali made in either round one or two when Shavers nearly landed flush, that that was the hardes shot Ali had taken. Now maybe it didn't land in the right spot for a knockdown or Ali just couldn't be knocked by virtually any human at that particular time, but there is no way he had felt anything like that before, his reaction was telling. Shavers was a flawed fighter though, he went crazy after Holmes got back up, a lot of fighters could have finished Holmes off there, but Shavers relied too much on landing that one shot- but it still gave him a great career.
Ernie is a classy guy , strongest puncher I've ever seen . I would say his only equal as far as powerful pinching is Big George Foreman . Another classy guy .
Mike Tyson, Deontay Wilder, Tommy Morrison and of course Foreman coming first. I might be missing some, but those are some that come to mind. Tyson and Morrison were more combination punchers though. Wilder is probably the best comp even though they look nothing alike.
Foreman does hit harder than those guys but from what they say its a different punch foreman is a heavy punch shavers is a shocking punch

Today's boxing is boring because all the good HWs are avoiding each other. In the 60' and 70' they fought between themselves multiple times...they didn't care about the belt, they wanna give show to people!!! Now the fighters want to keep the belt as much as posible and they pick easy fights....pathetic. Anthony fall when he was hit by Andy....I don't wanna know what would of happen if Earnie hit Anthony with full power.....

The thing is, how many guys did Shavers knock out who weighed over 200lbs? I don't think there were many. Klitshcko has knocked out a lot more bigger guys than Shavers did so maybe Klitshcko hits harder. Admittedly chins come into question here too and this era isn't filled with many warriors like it was back in the day but still although I don't know the exact facts I'm pretty sure Shavers was knocking out smaller guys than Klitshcko

jjosephdubya So the exact facts for you are Earnie Shavers knocked out 90% of opponents under 200lbs he knocked out 68% of 200-214lbs opponents and only 47% of opponents over 215lbs (some of these were stopped on cuts). All heavyweights today are over 215lbs. Klitshcko's stats are he has knocked out 87.5% of opponents over 200lbs and 87.5% of opponents over 215lbs. the average guy Klitshcko has fought is around 230lbs. Most of Klitshckos opponents have got a better 215lb KO ratio than Shavers. SO in todays boxing he would not be considered a huge puncher. in fact he has fought 23 guys over 215lbs and knocked out 11 of them, doesn't scream huge puncher to me

Boxing changed cause the fighter became more and more weaker with the time no longer 15 round this because the guys in the past was more tougher good and atmosphere was much healthier

No you literally have no idea what you're talking about. To start with fights were changed from 15 to 12 because fighters were dying in the ring and getting serious injuries in those late rounds. Fact is Earnie Shavers only knocked out 47% of his opponents over 215lbs which mean he is not a big puncher by todays standards. Klitshcko is a bigger puncher, that's factual based on all of the evidence i showed, go read it. Were more tougher? that isn't even English, it doesn't make any sense.Not all of the fighters were under 200lbs at all! However you saying that just proves my point that he was not that big a puncher. I give up with dumb people like you, you have no idea, I don't even know how you have survived this far in life.
