Good for you lads for trying something different. Of course a plane journey is easier but dosnt make as good a vlog. Felt like i was there with you, and certainly felt your pain! Well done, great vlog and great experience to share⚒
Great vlog - brings back memories of trips to Chiang Mai,Koh Samui and Malaysia many years ago. Not easy to sleep, so a top tip is take some ear plugs, close your eyes and imagine you are somewhere else. The Thai railways system is about 50 years behind the times, but apparently they have started to build a fast railway up north to Korat, and then onto the rest of Isaan from there. About time!
On my very first trip, I took a train from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok, 24 hours journey changing a train at the border. That was hellish and I guess as low as a flight fare..
Well it’s an an adventure and making memories so fair play . It actually looks more comfortable than I thought and the person you’re with comes across as a nice fella so makes life better . Looking forward to part 2 be lucky lads 👍
Love a long train journey Nik. Been on a few over the years, India China and Egypt to name some that I’ve done. Alway been an experience to remember. Enjoyed the vlog, looking forward to the next part. 👍
Nice 1 Nick did the overnight Train last September from Trang to Hua Lampang was told when got on train be 9 hours think it stopped every station on the way lol 14 hours it finally took aged me 3 years did that journey , but looking back was a adventure and glad i did it
Love your videos. Please keep the volume balanced between the music and the dialog. Those of us using ear buds a-Herve to continually adjust the volume. Thanks !
Sound levels should up and down anyway, especially between frames.. Much if the time it is deliberate but there should be a maximum level. A couple of times I had to whisper in the carriage. It could be that I'm switching cameras I will look into it. This weekend a new mic is coming from the UK it's hard to get decent mics here in South Asia.
I know it's about the adventure and making a good vlog but I reckon getting the ferry across the Gulf and boarding the train at Hua Hin would be pretty cool!
Good video Nick. I did this trip many times back in the day (Similan Liveaboard's, jump off in Surat Thani) and while working in Malaysia on Tioman Island. It has changed a little bit since then but not that much. The Northern and Eastern lines have new trains which are a big improvement in comfort, and are even getting high speed tracks built. I was on an over-nighter from Ubon Ratchathani to BKK two weeks ago and for 1000 Baht you get a mobile hotel for the night that delivers you across country arriving in central Bangkok first thing in the morning. If your on holiday and want to get somewhere quickly then this may not be the best mode of transport, if you have all the time in the world then why stress about getting to airports, flight delays, taxi rip-offs, Immigration queue's? Not for everyone but I love em.
Hi Nick flag you can put a brave face on as saying you have a hang over! Not really what you need when you have a long train ride!! I bet you wanted to get off it haha, better to fly really eh. The long train rides are ok if you have lots of time when your away and traveling and of course it’s cheaper.Keep up the good work Nick.
Great Vid mate 👍 I took the boat from Koh Samui to Surat Thani and then train to Bangkok (only 12hrs) in 96 so I only have the outmost respect ✊ especially hungover too!
let me see 18 hrs plus on a train looking at farms trees rivers trying to sleep. Nooooooooooooo way i will fly thanks but thanks for the video wont think about this way of travel.Gee how long does it take from Bangkok to Pattaya
Well Well Well This was great viewing at times i thought i was watching Michael Portillo's Great Railway journeys of the world !! But this is a great combination working in tandem With Host Nick's Dry, wicked, and funny sense of fun and adventure combined with Jim's "Pearly kings and Queens" cockney twang its just made for film... Music choices to accompany the journey are just sweet to the ear. A fantastic result for Part One i and im sure countless other subscribors waiting on (Platform 6) for Part Two to hit our screens Keep safe Cant call you the Brothers Chuckle anymore thats old school How about Pete n Dud... Hello guys it didn't start off too well but like you two I would do it for the experience and they didn't let you starve. How much compared to flying was the journey? Looking forward to part 2. Many thanks.
Lol m8, at least you admitted to having a hangover! Your mate looks fresh and fit as a butcher’s dog! I could rough it like that anytime, what’s a few days without a shower😷
lollllllll the train was nearly empty and someone seats next to you. i dont think i could have done it i would rather fly but interesting vlog keep them coming see you soon paul.
I done the journey back in 2003 and done it by coach and a crammed minibus for most the journey! Complete nightmare as you can imagine! 🥴 The trains do get Baltic tho lol
I see they take health and safety serious on them trains with the doors and did they supply you with bottles to piss in if the doors were locked, fair play lads for making the journey.
I found the volume on this vid a little annoying as you were whispering or talking softly so had to turn the volume way up to hear you , then racing for my volume button when the music would play at double the volume . As for the train I think I would fly as I don't think the price break is that much , enjoy the experience , ya have to give it a go once anyway eh ? Cheers
Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. I'd have to equate taking that train ride with getting drunk on cheap tequila. Something one does once and then never again! Lol. Safe travels! :)
I used to take the train to Chiang Mai 20 years ago, but I always paid for both berths in 1st class. But as soon as flights became the same price I flew😂😂😂 I did 2nd class upper once, and because I'm 7 feet tall that upper bunk is tiny, and not something I'd do again. But fair play to you for doing it. Completely mad, but funny😂😂😂
@@NDTViThailand even their idea of 1st class wasn't what I was expecting. I remember booking it, thinking I was gonna get an Orient Express type cabin, with my own bathroom. Oh how naive was I back then😂😂😂
Enjoyed the video but the microphone sound quality is terrible. Very annoying when you switched from music to mic as had to constantly change volume on TV to stop blasting my ears.
It shouldn't be I've also watched it on a screen TV and no problems. Today I was hunting for a microphone like I have in Thailand. No luck. I do have one coming from the UK I think this weekend. But there's no decent mics out here.
That trance style tune at 9.35 for the sunrise is mint!

Very good Nick. I look forward to 2nd half
I did this same journey in 2003 and it hasn't changed a bit. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
I did up to Nong Kai about the same time not even the staff have changed lol
Thailand is a big place and still looks very forested and beautiful from the train, great vid looking forward to the next installment

I remember years ago I took a train from Bangkok to Khon Kaen 10 hours journey. Flight was 25 minutes and £20 one way. Never again :)
Crypto Alchemist 10 Minutes lol 10 hrs .. I took a car only 6.5

Some classic comments, loved the suspense music, cracked me up several times. Enjoy the adventure mate.
That took a while to really be on your way. Good reminder that it gets cold.I hope they did not leave you and that part of the train there !
Now that’s a proper travel vlog - brings back memories 😊👌🏽

That's actually a very good idea and probably could have saved some time 👍

I did it back 1986 , looks like it hasn't changed . Well same timetable .

Barry, part 2 you see the difference it's really big contrast going from Thai trains to Malaysian. Nice one mate.
What was pulling you - George Stephenson's Rocket?

Boss video mate! The music when it was going dark sounded like when the wicked Witch is flying on the wizard of oz 🧙♀️
Lol m8, at least you admitted to having a hangover! Your mate looks fresh and fit as a butcher’s dog! I could rough it like that anytime, what’s a few days without a shower😷
54 days without a drink for him, well it was 😂
Loved the sunset music! Very dramatic! Was you expecting a murder on the Orient Express or something 🤔

Interesting and enjoyable journey Nick apart from going to bed at 7pm haha
Definitely worth doing Owen but only if you have the time.
I see they take health and safety serious on them trains with the doors and did they supply you with bottles to piss in if the doors were locked, fair play lads for making the journey.
Each carriage had a toilet you could access.
Why have the backround sound so loud? my wif hats it.
Well done guys but i would never take the train there, like my comforts too much

I was interested that you could stand between carriages not only do I not go in lifts I couldn't do a sealed train 555 😆
Stuck at work but this one I am looking forward to as I reckon it’s going to be horrific
Lol, I won't spoil it.
ive taken that train. its alright if you don't have a timetable. beats anything ive ridden on in India rail lol
Must have been gruelling with that hangover....😣😴😎
Bloody good soundtrack
Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. I'd have to equate taking that train ride with getting drunk on cheap tequila. Something one does once and then never again! Lol. Safe travels! :)
Yeah, other than Japan, I would pretty much refrain from the train in Asia. 😜✌🍺
Take the train they said it will be fun they said
I think it’s ok to do 1 long train journey in Asia just for the experience but after that never again. Fly every time 😂🚅✈️
I used to take the train to Chiang Mai 20 years ago, but I always paid for both berths in 1st class. But as soon as flights became the same price I flew😂😂😂

No 1st class we asked. Cheers mate.
@@NDTViThailand ahh thats a shame. Bet you're flying back😂😂😂
Worth doing once for the experience though

My mate sent me a pic of you and him in Extra Bar the night before and I thought you would be pretty rough next day, the state of the pair of yeh😃
I never learn my lesson. 😩
@@NDTViThailand 😂
18 hours on a train to Malaysia. At least you made it but that steel bog would put me off using a train on that route 🤣🤣🤣
Hungover in the train. I feel your pain. 😂😂
Rough as hell Kev. 😕
Top video 👍

Good stuff. Could barely hear you when u we’re speaking in the train....good luck finding a new mic.
Funny all the space and some one sits next to me 😂
To travel, is to live.... H.C. Andersen.....
To painful to watch lol. Maybe take the minibus back to finish the torture?
Flight already booked. 😁
Love thai railways.
I won’t add it to my bucket list..lol
Hot hangover and in train for 20 hours that’s crazy I’d rather be stuck in Soi 6 drinking for 20 hours lol
Not advisable is you're limited for time.
Enjoy the journey not the destination NOT
pay another 1000 baht I'd fly instead..
Normally but flights this times almost 3 times the price.
NDTVi Pattaya yeah well hope your having fun Brother
Why
Needed get to Penang and I wanted do it way first time I went in January.
NDTVi Pattaya what's Penang like ? Is this a visa run
😎😂🤣😂👍
Take a plane back, why suffer thru all that B/S
No hair of the dog! I hear booze is banned on trains there now.
You hear right David, due to a Thai railway worker. You would be surprised what goes on behind the curtains or in a first class cabin though.
Thinking about it ..... with the open doors while the train is moving a no booze policy is Probly for the best lol
I don't normally do hair of the dog but in this instance. 😑
NDTVi Pattaya I figured out I don’t think I have been in Thailand without alcohol in my bloodstream!
NDTVi Pattaya will be at the meet night on the 12th of July
Faster going on a 125cc scooter lol
Book my ticket better then BRITISH RAIL 🇬🇧
