When the soldiers pulled her to the brothel house, they couldn't move her at all,she became too heavy like a mountain, they couldn't carry her either. The Lord protected her by making her weight so heavy. Fire and boiling water couldn't do any harm to her too. The soldiers went to carry her,her guardian angels with spears fought for her, they ran away. Many attempts were made, but in vain , finally the king bacame furious and out of his anger and frustration he ordered her to be executed, she willingly went and kept her head ready on the wood , (she had a long beautiful hair. ) to be executed. Wonderful young martyr victim and saint who joined her heavenly spouse happily after the execution.
I know a lot of the images come from the Middle Ages but the clothing is totally wrong. She would have dressed like a 4th century roman not someone from the middle ages, she probably would have wore a linen tunic and sandals. We don't know many details of her life but we know generally from other sources and archeology from that period that she would have lived in an Insula or Domus in Rome and was probably a native to the city judging from her name. She'd probably have visited the public baths and had a diet of fish, cereals, olives, grapes, apples and vegetables. It is odd though when you see a painting of say Saint George dressed like a medieval knight with a 14th century castle in the background. Thats not at all what he would have looked like at all.
Yo I am trying to be polite but thats nasty. So you said she was 12-13 and had men trying to court her? Yo thats a child thats nasty. :26 age 12-13 1:45 men asking to date/court
In roman times a girl was considered ready for marriage at the age of 12-14. There's lots of evidence for this in surviving tombstones and writings from the time. The concept of adolescence being still part of childhood would have been totally alien to the classical world. There's evidence of boys as young as ten working in mines, so in short you had to grow up very fast back then. Ambrose of Milan confirmed she was 12, St Augustine thought she was 13. Not all romans married that young though. In the case of Saint Perpetua we know she was 22 and recently married. It wasn't actually until the end of the 19th century that child marriage became illegal in most Western Countries.
That was normal at the time, many roman girls married between ages 12-14 like Empress Maria or Octavia the Younger. Life expectancy was shorter, the idea of waiting until your late 20s or 30s for marriage is a very recent modern idea. She died in the early 300s and the first written reference to her is also in the 300s by Saint Ambrose who writes she was 12, seems to say she was small, she was executed in front of a crowd and there's a hint of some kind of marital rejection. Saint Augustine thought she was 13 when she died.
