How do you think the generations ahead before us got ahead? Did not spend unnecessarily. There are 'Cafes' now that have teaching repair shops. Everyone keeps complaining about cost of living but in return things are not fixed but thrown out to create more garbage. I also feel strongly that we need to buy locally made and produced as much as possible. I know it can cost more in the short run but in the long run the cost is higher.
Who knows? Maybe that heat proof paint and a little love will give your grill another year or two. I love fixing up salvaged things and shopping in my parents' attic for things I can use. My mom was a firm believer in the power of paint to give something new life.
I agree Phil... it's better to try to get more use out of things than to just throw it away and replace it. So much of our society now is on throwing away ... and cheap junk that doesn't last... Ages ago things were built to last for a long time... anymore things are built to be replaced... and it's sad.
Mainly because it's all coming from China deliberately cheaply made so we will have to replace. We should bring manufacturing back to our own countries.
I so agree! I was so shocked when the warranty customer service person called my 3 year old washing machine old! 😮 We were forced to buy a new one because nobody wanted to come and repair it! I really dislike having to buy new.
I have a Panasonic microwave, which I use every day, which I had from new 40 years ago! Things were made to last then, as others on here have said, and I switch it off when not in use. My sofa is about 19 years old, which I bought when I worked on the furniture department at John Lewis, in High Wycombe. It is still lovely, and I just keep a cover on it for every day use, which I take off if anyone comes to visit. My curtains are about 16 years old, and still as good as new. We just need to look after things, and they will look after us! I myself am 66 years young, so I suppose the same applies to me?! Look after yourself young Phil, you are such a good person, and anyone would feel honored to have you as a friend. xxx
I agree with you Phil, repair what you have until you can't anymore, to be honest your fretting now to make things look good, but friends will only be there for entertainment, drinks and laughter. They will not be comparing 😊 Your a good man.❤
Its good to see you redoing the BBQ rather than just getting a new one, I totally agree with you and it does look great repainted. As for working on Billys land rover when you have many projects of your own I believe what you do for others always comes back to you in some way, it is nice to have such great friends.
Hi Phil I like how you care about your friends and lend a hand with your talent in automotive repaiirs. You will have other BarBQues. The back patio looks great. The grill will look like new, I hope you get a few more years out of it. Well done
I’m so in agreement with you about repairing and maintaining things instead of throwing away stuff that can be used still. There is too much waste these days. I’m praying that the weather holds up and that your BBQ party is a great success!
Oh dear Phil, you don’t have to do much on the car do you. 🤭 You are an exceedingly good friend. I will be happy looking at your other channel. Everyone needs to know about cars. I agree with recycling. I’m doing a Swedish death clean on my house and I’m donating many clothes etc as I don’t need them. I also don’t want to creat more landfill than necessary as it ruins the water table and other things. I’m also of the age that I could shuffle off as they but I don’t want people to have to go through my rubbish and have to sort it out. To traumatic for them so I’m doing it now. Thank you. May you all please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
Waste not, want not. Growing up military with 5 of us kids, you didn't get didly sqaut. You cherished and took care of what you got. Still that way at 63. Love watching you redo whatever. Always beautiful!
My Dad restored a 1940.’s London Taxi Cab that somehow got to the States. I drove it around the block one Christmas vacation. He fixed a lot of different old cars.
Phil, your friends come to see you! I always say to my husband, if our friends wanted to see a house, they would go to a museum not come to our house. They come to our house to visit us, have a laugh and enjoy life
I agree Phil.....my husband and I have been married 47 years and have always restored and taken care of our things and use them until they need to be replaced. Sometimes a challenge but fun! Great job Phil....looking very spiffy!!
I'm a firm believer of make do and mend, having been brought up that way. I very rarely throw anything away or give anything away that I can't make into something else that's usable. I don't hoard but make a rule of only having 4 projects on the go at the same time, this way I find its easier not to get bogged down or bored or even overwhelmed. Its a great feeling of satusfaction when you've fixed or mended something. Another channel will probably bring you in a new lot of viewers who love restoring cars anyway, and will benefit your talents rather than it just being a hobby. BBQ if it ain't broke use it. 💕🇦🇺
Right on! Really dislike this chuckaway society we got, watched a vlog about the ocean of plastic in the middle of an ocean. Lookin forward to seein the T4 up and runnin again. Thanks Phil.
I agree Phil everything should be designed to be repaired and to last . I take care of everything I own because I can’t afford replace it. I save up and look for deals, recycle. The Chateau is looking really nice Phil. I see you have been working hard . Excited about the car channel’s. My brothers and cousins always bringing in and restoring cars.
The BBQ looks great. I’m from the make-do-and mend generation and I totally agree with you about our throw away society. My husband kept our old BBQ going for 30 years. Like to see one of these new ones last as long!
My dad was a mechanic, born in the 1920’s he grew up durning the depression here in Canada, one of things I learned from him, never throw anything away. You might need it to fix something. Always fix , avoid buying new, if you must buy new , pay cash for it. I must admit, I don’t always , but I do try to follow those guidelines
You are right Phil, repair where ever possible. Very sad this week replacing my 21 year old washing machine. At least my 42 year old electric knife is still working 🤭
You are so right about this disposable world we are living in. It’s killing this beautiful earth that we are so blessed to be living on. I have always taken very good care of my possessions and reuse things in creative ways when they are no longer useful for their original purpose. I hope we are not a dying breed, but you are much younger than me, so hopefully there are young people who feel the same. The patio looks great. Keep up the good work. xx
Always fun to follow your Chateau project but I will be very keen to follow the Range restoration. At a time I had a '86 Vogue with the V8 3.9 engine which I drove for almost 20 years. One of the best cars I ever owned. Never any major repairs except 2 times the rear hatch which just rusted away.
Same weather is the Netherlands, and cold, and we do the same with our or BBQ, too, my partner made one of RVS and we hot a lot of years of pleasure, but the cleaning, was intens…but we gave it away to a second shop…snd replace it for on gas, and we have it already more then 10 years….
When the wife and I lived in Cornwall I'd take stuff down the tip and always came back with more than I took, and restore it. It drove the wife nuts. We now live in the States where if someone doesn't want something they leave it by the curb. Screech of brakes and I'm out and it's in the back of the car. The wife is mortified and hides her head in shame. 😂😂
Repair and restoration - especially furniture and clothing. There is still some good solid wood furniture.being made at a very high price but so much is veneered particle board or even sawdust. I've been getting my clothes at Goodwill stores because it is often still whole fibers. Fibers built with recycled material tend to wear out faster. Actually I think there are people going to the Goodwill store buying up the whole fiber clothes because they are getting harder to find. A clerk told me about two people who had recently spent thousands buying up the cloths. There were no sweaters and everything else was acrylic or polyester. I tried to replace my old kitchen stove about two years ago but could find only one close to what I have. It's a 24in wide stove and almost no one carried tham. It claimed it was energy efficient but what sort of electric coil control starts at a higher temp at the low end of the scale. drops as you turn through the scale to the high end and gets too hot to measure at the high end? And all four burners did the same thing. It was made in Mexico and there was zero customer support. I returned it and repainted the old one. The oven cleaned beautifully with a good scraping with a razor blade. Stripping the old finish off the outside panels allowed a very clean repainting with an enamel appliance spray paint. I did the same thing to the top but really have to find a hi temp enamel white paint. All I could get was flat. It took about 6 hours to do over two days. I had a problem with the oven coil ( I thought the coil had burned out) but it was actually the plug end that had burned out and that was easily repaired with a bit of copper sheet. I think a little grease had reacted with the old metal over 40 plus years. The resistance coil was still in great shape..I saved over $700.00. It had better features than any of the replacements I had looked at. The delivery guy claimed it was the "Cadillac" of stoves. Than my old one was a Rolls. Anything made of metal is getting thinner and lighter. . There's no substitute for DIY. Even second hand stores seem to be getting the cheaper materials now. because no one is getting rid of their better stuff. I'll bet it's all becoming "legacy" furniture. Maybe even the cloths?
Well done Phil on the BBQ and the bar looks amazing. You are a stand up guy. All will be well. Repairing, reusing, up cycle, buy used … I bought a used leather sofa that is such a good one when my old one broke down and couldn’t be fixed. Also go to charity shops, thrift stores and consignment shops. I was taught to make do with what you have, a stitch in time too. Schools today don’t teach shop in school, or home economics,. I am just like you in thinking about our throw away society. Your friends are coming to spend time with you, but like you I always want things to look good. Be safe and stay healthy Phil. Hello to Angelina too. ❤❤❤
Well done, Phil. I appreciate your comment on a throw-away society. It is a real shame that we would rather throw something away instead of fixing or repairing what is not broken and what is still functioning and has a purpose. Keep up the good work. Love your channel. A fan from the land down under. Cheers
The BBQ looks great! I love how you extended its life. And even when it no longer works as a BBQ, I'm sure you could find a creative use for it (...birdbath? Tool holder? Lol). Tell Lightning we woooooolf him!
Hey Phil, I agree with fixing up the grill, I have a flat screen TV in my bedroom, it's thirteen years old, works perfectly, it's so outdated for the new streaming channels and everything else, however I will keep it until it dies, it won't end up in a landfill so I can catch up to the times. This will be exciting to see what you do to Billy's Range rover, nice of you to take it on. Love from N.Y.
Yes totally agree c with you. That's the current mentality to just throw away and we are dearly for that attitude. Here in USA our country is looking like one enormous dump yard.
Cannot wait to watch the Classic restoration. I've been waiting for it to see the light of day. Hubby had a RR Classic years ago back in the UK it eventually got scrapped and he put the engine in his Land Rover 90. These days we only have my 1993 Defender 200tdi as with all old vehicles its had plenty of resortation in the 12 years I've owned it.
Well done Phil, the grill looks like new now! Newer isn't always better anyway, I have a Ponitac that is 23 years old and still going strong and beautiful. We have numerous offers to purchase it whenever we get the oil changed. lol
Come on Phil, chin up, carry on and all that! lol 😂 You are doing a fabulous job. Everything is looking great. All will be fine for your weekend hosting friends!
Totally agree Phil, but good to know that there are now an awful lots of repair and restoration channels and groups now on tv and on FB. I look forward to the Range Rover restoration but please be mindful of not running yourself too ragged sweetheart. Take care.
I was caught on a monster monsoon while out on my bike...had to lock my bike to a sign, and run to the home Depot...I wrung out my shirt on the mens room...it slacked and I went back to get my bike and drag my soggy self home...it was the first gully washer this year...
It is a throw away world people just waste money where I live you quite often see barbecues ready to be picked up and thrown away. The extra work you have done to your barbecue it might last another eight years if more people thought as you do the world would be a better place thank you Best wishes keep safe keep free from Lynda by the way good luck with your new channel
Phill I really do admire your values about using everything till it not fixable anymore. Our past generations understood that so well and everything was made to last for generations. Now days it's about the newest and latest items that are made to not even make through our time let a lone generations.
I love design furniture, but I'm also buy it second hand! I hate waste! O and Phil... why don't you put up a big cheep tent on the terras for the BBQ. I'll be so mutch easyer for you.💋
Phil your doing a great job. I hate when your having a party and the rain interfere. But you know how I feel is it is what it is and people really don't care. They come because they like your company. Sure wish I was not a half world away cause I would help.
Phil my love. Very good paint job on the BarBQ. Hope the rain don’t ruin your plans for guests. Nice of you to help Billy restore his car. Well my darling until next time. Take care and stay safe. Love ya 🍺🇺🇸🙏❤️😇🌞👍🕊🌹🌈
When phil was in the snooker room talking about what he had to do but i had to relisten a few times ill not say what i thought he said but it turned out to be "and i need to pop into the convent" but oh what i thought he said!!!
This gave me an idea for your underground tunnel area back in the garden where the old bycicles are stored. Turn it in to a workshop. For all your tools. Build a nice big workbench. Instal some ventilation. So you can do things in a dry place when it rains. You can make it of grid because you have ecoflows…. Greetings from the Netherlands
You are talking and I'm watching your dog looking at something that has his attention. I think he maybe a little leery of the critters now. I love how you have all those different chairs all painted the same and lined up at the bar. That is really cool.
Agreeing to a BBQ is good for you. Too much baggage, that makes moving forward, difficult. Move forward and do what you are passionate about. It will not matter if your passion has changed. Billy's got a ton of folks to help him. Don't compare. Go get 'em! You CAN do it!
Totally agree with you Phil…refurbish and reuse as much as possible. I must say your chateau is looking very good and whichever way the weather goes, your party will be a great success. 🙏❤️
I totally agree Phil, we should try more to mend & refurbish instead of throwing away unless things are past repair. Well done 👏
I can remember taking A Russell Hobbs kettle to the electric shop to be mended but that was a few weeks ago😊
And in between take care of your possesions before they delapidate into a sorry state.
Who knows? Maybe that heat proof paint and a little love will give your grill another year or two. I love fixing up salvaged things and shopping in my parents' attic for things I can use. My mom was a firm believer in the power of paint to give something new life.

Your barbecue and patio area looks great 😊❤

Once you get Billy's car sorted you guys need to take it on a road trip
Look forward to that!
I agree. You can see the streets in all of them
to Balmoral?
I totally agree and appreciate your efforts to repair and reuse. I don’t like to throw useful things out.😊
Patio is looking AMAZING 👏
Repair not replace, what a wonderful way to live.
I agree with you Phil, repair what you have until you can't anymore, to be honest your fretting now to make things look good, but friends will only be there for entertainment, drinks and laughter. They will not be comparing 😊 Your a good man.❤
You're such a good friend Phil.👍😘
I love the bar area you have done a good job with painting. It's lovely to see you all helping one another🥰 ❤❤
You are SUCH a great friend Phil. BTW, you look great both in your glasses and without. Enjoy yourself!
Good on you for fixing things up rather than throwing them away.

Same weather over here in Kent, pain in the bum 😒
Where has our summer gone 🤷♀️🫤

Amen. Every little bit helps with the environment.
Hubby and i think like you the 3 R's Repupose, Reduce garbage out put, Recycle it around the home!
I love the way you think!! Keep up the good work!!
I’m so in agreement with you about repairing and maintaining things instead of throwing away stuff that can be used still. There is too much waste these days. I’m praying that the weather holds up and that your BBQ party is a great success!

BEST WISHES TO YOU
I agree Phil.....my husband and I have been married 47 years and have always restored and taken care of our things and use them until they need to be replaced. Sometimes a challenge but fun! Great job Phil....looking very spiffy!!
I admire you Phil in keeping up instead of replacing!! Loved it when you stated you were holding on to hope. Fair warning I’m going to steal that 😂.
I’m always shocked at just how beautiful all the countryside in France is!
I also believe fix it if you can. My husband and I have been married 43 years and have only purchased 3 grills 😅

What a great friend to Billy. Good soul you.

Mend and make do, gives me great satisfaction. That’s what was done years ago especially in war time.
When the wife and I lived in Cornwall I'd take stuff down the tip and always came back with more than I took, and restore it. It drove the wife nuts. I agree about the throw away society...sadly even some people are thrown away also...we need a NEW way of thinking!
Personally, I'd do the vehicle projects in the winter as you have so much yardwork to get done. ❤

Absolutely Phil
Hate throwing things away!
Make do and mend also.
Your chateau is beautiful..put up a shade tent..if you are worried. Its summer. A little rain won't hurt.. Billy's car looks cool
I agree with you, Phil, I hate this “throw away” culture and try to fix everything before I buy new. Good for you.🇨🇦👏
Yes totally agree c with you. That's the current mentality to just throw away and we are dearly for that attitude. Here in USA our country is looking like one enormous dump yard.
We are FORCED to toss and replace thanks to planned obsolescence. Not many truly want to toss everything.

An outstanding idea, refresh that range rover, and go on a road trip with billy.😮 Also that bar-b-q is a keeper.
Phil I agree it’s sad how everything is throw away … things need to be repurposed and reused. People need to learn to be minimalist.
Phil, I know that will be beautiful when you're done on Billy's rangerover.
You are a good friend , Phil!
Phil your doing a great job. I hate when your having a party and the rain interfere. But you know how I feel is it is what it is and people really don't care. They come because they like your company.
Sure wish I was not a half world away cause I would help.
Look forward to seeing the restoration.
Yes, fix and reuse stuff
Your ok Phil. We are all ok. Everybody is ok.😊
Excellent vlog as always and yes it’s great if we can restore instead of the alternative.
It's a total joy to see young people 'make do' these days and you Phil top the list!
The terrace looks Great!
Always good to see you, Phil.
Your Man’s room turns out nice and cozy
Thank you for making and sharing this lovely video!😊
That vehicle is a train wreck LOL....but I have total faith in you Phil!
Balmoral is the vehicle from the royal family
You are right to take the approach of fixing things, when fixable, as opposed to buying new constantly.
Good on you Phil . My mum used to say wast no won't not . ❤
Phil weather awful here as well .no end to rain .😢
Tell them to bring brolly s
You are talking and I'm watching your dog looking at something that has his attention. I think he maybe a little leery of the critters now. I love how you have all those different chairs all painted the same and lined up at the bar. That is really cool.
Hope the party was fun and good luck with all of the vehicles. I hope that parts are fast and easy to get.
Agreeing to a BBQ is good for you. Too much baggage, that makes moving forward, difficult. Move forward and do what you are passionate about. It will not matter if your passion has changed. Billy's got a ton of folks to help him. Don't compare. Go get 'em! You CAN do it!
nice to see your blog and more down the track , I'm one that likes to try and fix things before i go and buy another one . looking forward to more
What a wonderful friend you are Phil
Totally agree with you Phil…refurbish and reuse as much as possible. I must say your chateau is looking very good and whichever way the weather goes, your party will be a great success. 🙏❤️
