They were able to avoid getting a sponsor because they had a rigged TV deal that meant that they got 10 times as much of the domestic TV revenue as the small teams. They (along with their corrupt siblings Real) still get 2 times as much money as the 4th place team. For reference, the PL winners get a bit less than 1.5 times what the BOTTOM team does.

The manager market is already scarce rn, so for Barca to sack Xavi after they wanted him to stay WHEN HE WANTED TO LEAVE THEIR BASKETCASE CLUB CUZ THEYRE A BASKETCASE, no top manager is gonna want to go to Barca in these conditions. • @SpanishGarbo
    @SpanishGarbo 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I don't know how closely you're following this, but to me it's more short-sighted results more than anything to drive the decision. The reason to quit was said after an unfortunate defeat to Villarreal at home in January. From then on the hunt for a new manager started, so talks with Flick were already on their way during the 3 months he was expected to leave. Better results and slight hope for Champions league next season after almost beating PSG made them more keen to keep Xavi and convince him to stay. The 4-2 loss against Girona to lose the 2nd place spot (temorarily) set off the alarms again. That's why I think Laporta and his crew are more volatile than anything else. When things seem to be bad jump ship and pray for the next one. The talks with Flick just resumed in the last few weeks before sacking Xavi and making it official.
    I personally think it's a good thing he leaves and it's unfortunate the people who run Barça didn't learn much. He came in to save us from a 9th place, europa league-bound club to save champions league, win the league the next year and only go into europa again due to unlucky group stage. And this year he finished 2nd to a seemingly unbeatable Madrid (Champions league finalist BTW) and still beating out the new threat Girona became while losing both direct matches. In any other scenario it would be an amazing accomplishment by most teams, but Barça have such high expectations of the team that even that's not good enough, which I think is a good mentality to have except we have to account with the major financial debuff we're going through. That's the main thing the club board control and it's the main thing holding us back from making effective signings. Instead of shifting the blame on themselves, they use Xavi as an escape goat.
    I always thought it was too soon for Xavi to come, I'm not happy the way things ended in the end, but I hope he follows through with his word and is open to coming back. I want him to take time away from the immense pressure that comes from being a Barça manager and be free to experiment at a smaller club, much like he did when he started in Qatar.

    its the same with Erik ten Hag, who rejected a job offer by Bayern because of beeing granted time to build up a legacy only to have the new boss who gave that pledge have negotiations with another trainer before the last game of the year...

    I'd love to see him join us at Milan. He could lead a revolution at Milan and lead us to another Scudetto.
    I also wouldn't mind if he replaces de Zerbi at Brighton. I've grown fond of Brighton after their insane 2022/23 season and I don't want to see them drop even further than they are now. It'd be nice to see a good experienced, title winning manager come in to replace de Zerbi.
    Girona would also be cool. I love to see players/managers get screwed over by the club they've been loyal to all their life just for them to turn around, join a rival and do even better, however the Girona manager spot is pretty secure rn.
    And Girona actually have money, unlike Barca. Also when Pep leaves Man City or retires Xavi would be front runner for the City job providing he does well in Catalonia, but not for Barcelona, for Girona.

    • @KhanunFC
      @KhanunFC 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It isn rumored that Pep will come back to Barça in a more Sports director role when he finishes with ManCity.
      Girona love their coach so I doubt they'd get rid of him unless he decides to go on his own.
      I'm unsure what's going on with DeZerbi because I hardly follow the PL but it'd be a nice change for Xavi and kinda funny to see him be yet another Spanish coach in the PL... Imagine if La Liga and Spain wasn't such a shit show? The league they'd have if they just kept their talent at home.

    Zealand's very existence is such a juxtaposition. Man looks like he's from 1930 with the manly stache. Where his work sees him featuring in videos only *certain* people will ever get to see. Yet, his current setup looks like he's in his childhood room of his parents. Still, respect the stache. I trust he's having an excellent weekend.

    As someone being born and raised in Barcelona, it saddens me to have to agree woth almost everything you said. Luis Enrique's treble, which led to the reelection of Bartomeu, is the worst thing that has happened to this club. The money we got from Neymar sent us (somehow) spiraling into bad governance, and then the Spanish regulations, combined with the pandemic and the need for a new stadium put the nail in the coffin. Out of all the things you've said, I only think you're wrong when you say we're not the same club. Yes, we have fucked things up, but we keep consistently producing our own world class players. Lamine, Balde, Gavi, Cubarsí, Hector Fort, Fermín... not even talking about Ansu, which would have been world class without his injuries

      Plymouth was somewhat lucky per se with the dissolution of Bury FC, taking their manager and eventually him being replaced by his assistant. Plymouth has one of the lowest budgets in the league and is currently investing in infrastructure, unless they took a risk on a lower league manager, Rooney's probably one of the best options available with championship experience

    Huge Barca fan, but this really sours my love for the club. The board and president sucks, we are under investigation for alleged match fixing, and now they fire a legend in Xavi in this manner! If it wasn’t for the fact that Barca and Real get the most money from TV revenue, Barca would be playing in the second division next season. Barca fell to its knees long ago, but now it lies in a field of its own manure.

      They'll be fine...Madrid without the Barça rivalry makes less money overall. Florentino will literally take over with a mustache and a wig if he has to just so that El Clásico doesn't die. He knows the reason why PSG can't ever win UCL is because they have no competition at all. Without Barça, Atletico and the few behind them Madrid could never compete or make as much money...who wants to go watch Madrid play against Valladolid or Elche?

    Zealand you've articulated at the same time both my interest and admiration for Barcelona's identity (as an American fan of the game) and my incredible disgust of how it feels like people in the highest seats of power in clubs (and honestly companues in most every field eight now) are treating those who have helped establish and build the seats they sit on.
    Barcelona is bigger than Xavi of course. But I cannot think of a more point blank example of what Barcelona is than Xavi. Tossing him away like this is disgraceful to say the least.
