Honestly I don’t even think this song is bad, it’s just the fast transitions that make the song hard to digest. Plus the lyrics could have been better, with more fuller words than “whook whook” and “shoog shoog”.
This song could have also been perfect to spit some bars if JYP worked on the arrangement.
Edit: Ok but I really like this song a lot now. First it was like ok but the more I listen to it, the more addictive it gets.

Listening to the song 3 or 4 times is my limit, a song should not take more than 4 listens to grow on you even if it is a grower song.

i only liked the first pre-chorus. when i first listened to it i was so confused and i still am now. i could barely tell where i was at and the rapping didn't even fit well with the melody. when it ended, i was like: 'that's it? that's all we get????'

I agree! The song isn’t completely bad, and the girls rocked it. But in terms of a debut, which is meant to make a relatively good first impression of the group, I don’t think it was entirely successful. Songs can be confusing but still catchy, but I think this song needs a lot more listens to really catch on than most popular songs.
It wasn’t really confusing. The structure is clear, it’s just that it’s messy/unorganized. There are certain songs where having this type of structure can work out in your favor but this isn’t one of them. Fast songs usually do not go well with this type of structure since a lot is already going on. When you combine the random parts, the wild beat, and the voices, it becomes overwhelming to your brain which is likely to make the song sound bad or make you lose interest in it.
It's a bad song if you need several listens to come and say that 'it's not that bad' ....
@@SayaCross Not necessarily. Whether the song is bad or not is subjective and listening to a song multiple times to let it grow on you doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily a bad song. It just means that the song wasn’t your cup of tea at first. Once you expose yourself to a song more than once, you might begin to appreciate and even enjoy certain aspects of it. Music taste can always alter or change. I didn’t like “Black Swan” by BTS when it first came out but when I listened to it 3-4 times, I began to appreciate the lyrics, the beat, and the melody. Does that mean that “Black Swan” is a bad song? No. It’s actually one of my favorite songs by them now. It happens 🤷🏽♀️

honestly after a few listens, the song isn't that bad, just the transition isn't smooth and the 2nd verse is a totally different concept while we are almost getting used to the melody. If they separate this into 2 songs (or just a small bridge part with different sounds), those can be a banger but i guess the trend is experimental music these days. I really like Lily's part 0:52 (good build-up) and 1:34 (sounds so fun)

This goes beyond experimental… SM’s always done a lot of experimental music, and some of it succeeds in some of it doesn’t, but this song just doesn’t sound like a full song. It doesn’t really feel like it comes full circle at all. Again, this isn’t the first song to have sudden transitions or weird instrumentals or sound piecemeal in terms of structure, but nevertheless it doesn’t sound catchy. It’s jarring in a bad way, not in an iconic way.

People are more used to SM style and they do have better production of the songs (one of biggest problems of this song I have is the production, is plain amateurish, it doesn't look like a song from a big company, the vocals are stuffed and the instrumental is eating the vocals up, the mixing is plain bad, this sounds like a demo, I have no idea how the song was released like this), people expected something else from a jyp gg debut

that's the only part that is listenable and make sense. This whole song, if we split it in several tiny portions, would not be so bad. But combine them all together is like.. This song is honestly very hated by its "lack of" meaning for no really good reason... After a couple listens you start to get the meaning. Its a really changing song because the songs about how theyre able to do everything in beats, styles and concepts. Ill try to break it down how i see it.
- It starts with the "epic beat", the theme is mostly. "look at that moving eye" (the song started and youre turning your head to see it) "see this" and then "get into me more" (introducing and kinda hypnotizing you yo keep watching)
- "Get out coward gon be shock and fear ahead OOps! " summarizes the fans reaction to the song. It's something new and different and something you really gotta break down, you gotta be ready to dive in. "Goon popping it popping it now driving you crazy open that boom" as the beat changes. Genius. The style gon change now, it will drive you crazy
- "Check out, popcorn and zero coke got em all? Come in" is an invite to come into the "cinema" and watch the show thats gonna be their discography. "Cross those arms sit down" same thing, sitting down at the cinema.
- "It's just a teaser" this first song is supposed to be a teaser only on how versatile the group can be. "Don't be surprised yet calm down" is a hint at there's gonna be much more beat changes, this is only the start, and the beat changes again.
- the bridge "now we're off, sorry no way out" you're already deep in the song and now you're gonna go on the ride. Again "bring it up more, higher, leggo" for the beat change to the chorus. I love how they announce it as in. This isn't all yet, be prepared.
- "eyes open like o.o" clearly you're surprised about this song and how fresh it is for kpop, thats why the song is o.o, nmixx will bring something new and impressive and you'll be surprised. "Watch it baila" and "how nice", same thing. Watch me break all boxes, im going to make something new.
- " Come on just one drop now" as the songs gonna drop again with "nmixx". "see that maze in zeros and ones" "stop staring come follow" i think both means that oh see the maze this song has established that you have to solve to really get the song, come follow. Or also could be something as in how the internet is a maze and a hint at how it has made kpop grow a ton internationally and "everything is fake but i ain't a fake" as in i have got talent, i can make this work. "The real starts now" beat change again
- this one is the "cuter style" they keep changing the themes and they say this is the real one or this is the good one as in we can do all, get ready. "See more scream o" as in youll see more, youll like i, or see more (the style changed) and now youre more surprised.
- i think "you're snoozing" means the industry has gotten too comfortable in the typical beats and styles and it now needs to be "woken up" "get em buttons tap tap push it down follow follow me" now you're woken up you should "follow" (irl and internet follow) the kpop revolution. "Never let you down, be with me" ill never let you down, I'll always have something new for u "let me be your super hero"
- they keep going with the hold on tight, thisll keep changing theme. "Baby trust in me and you". " 0 + 0 = infinity" was weird to unpack but i think it's meant to be youre surprised and impressed (o.o) and now you'll stay forever.
- "Before too late try baby what you waiting for? Cause now is the time, and finally well win" is same thing as in, we've come to set off a revolution in kpop, break all boxes. As the beat changes again. As in i can be cute and savage in the same song.
- "come on time to blink" as in you havent blinked yet, you've been too surprised (eyes like o.o)
- "sort yourself out on the way out" you've gotten too shaken up by this style, sort yourself out, the teasers over.
And that's it. Honestly it's a really fun song and really fun to unpack. I hope this helped out someone. Its not supposed to be a song you get at first. You gotta "unpack" the maze of beat changes and words. I hope their career goes well, I'll definitely be following them.

너무 에스파 따라 난해하게 하려하다가 이상해진 것 같음..분위기 달라지는 것도 좀 억지로 넣은 느낌이고...듣다보면 나아지려나 몰라도 있지 달라달라 때보다 너무 임팩트가 별로
데뷔곡은 따라할 수 있는 가사여야 좋은데 알아듣기 힘든 가사가 쉼 없이 나와서 넘 아쉬움 ㅠㅠ

To those people saying that the BEAT is OFF-BEAT or RANDOM:
The tempo actually stays constant throughout the whole song.
It's just that the subdivisions changes from 16th notes to become triplets instead.
The emphasised beat, aka meter, then changes to accent every other fourth triplet note, rather than staying true to every first note (when heading into the superhero part).
That's why it feels like the tempo changes- but it's actually still a steady 133 bpm throughout the whole song.
The tempo you "feel" there is (133bpm ÷16 ×12) ≈ 100 bpm. (Try it with a metronome yourself!)
You can often hear this effect (called metric modulation) in more technical music like Prog (e.g. The Mirror by Dream Theatre, &, Lippincott by Animals as Leaders) or Math Rock (e.g. On The Boom by Tricot, &, Midway by Elephant Gym).
Basically, JYP's composers went a little too technical here that our plebby untrained ears can't understand what's going on with the beat.

Having said all that, I will agree the genre transition can sound pretty jarring in O.O, especially that sudden-shouted "NMIXX!". The songs I listed still stay in the same genre lel
BUT my point is, this song is NOT off-beat!
If you listen to o.o while thinking about metric modulation, the transitions sound pretty clear and fluid, something carefully sturdied. It’s a shame though that this is hard to hear, hence it makes the song seem messy when you hear it at first.

I just listened to the transition while drumming out triplets and I can confirm the second part becomes 16th notes without me altering my tempo at all. "Officially" the BPM still changes, but it's an interesting fun factoid. And really, this song is not as bad as everyone says. The lyrics are a mess but the music is more cohesive than I first thought.

작년에 Next level에서 도중에 갑자기 노래분위기 바뀌는 거 듣고 처음에는 이상했는데 들을수록 매력적이었음.
근데 이 노래도 사실 처음 들었을 때 희한했는데 한 번 들으니까 또 듣고 싶고, 또 듣고 싶고 중독성 쩐다. 이런 게 믹스팝이라는데 너무 내스타일이다.
