I have treasured this painting from the time I saw a postcard of it as a young teenager. It was fantastic too se it for real many years later. Thank you for this lovely talk- I have to confess never really looked through the windows, I have been to captured with Jeromes study! This is what art talks are really about, to make you see things in a painting you were once blind for!

I greatly miss being able to go to the National Gallery, and I am so grateful for these wonderful lectures which give me the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the art and the fascinating commentary of the curators. Thanks for giving some life and color to these isolated days of the pandemic.
I connected with this painting the minute I saw it, and particularly with the study which I immediately wanted to replicate, it just looks the perfect place to work. Caroline's talk helped me to see so much more of the fascinating details in it.

I love how the artist left the books open like tabs on a computer. He looks on intensely. What's the little door next to the little trees by his feet? Why is there seem to be a letter by the door. What does is say. Who or what is supposedly in there? Or is it for him when he goes in? Does he ever go in the little door?

Thank you Ms caroline Campbell for the great choice of painting at this time. Envy the cosiness of Jerome's Study. Great narration from the lion to the finest details of the swallow and sheep to provide another dimension of appreciating this painting, love it. BTW, I don't understand the placement of the green dot on the screen, is it necessary? If it is, then maybe pls stop the pulsation, as human attention tends to be diverted to a moving object, thank you.

How do we know the. birds are swallows? It seems to me that they lack enough detail to provide identification. Could they not be pigeons, a bird that is commonly seen near human habitations throughout the year?
