- Ive finally done it. I went Kayak Camping for real! This is not a test run, I went solo kayak camping on the Colorado river in Texas. I put in at Fisherman's Park in Bastrop and took out the next morning at the Colorado River Refuge. It is a 6 mile float and there were a couple options for Islands to camp on.
I chose a big island that had a lot of firewood and a large open sandy area for camping.

City boy goes into nature. Good for you. Nature is awesome and has many lessons to teach you. Keep going back and learning each time.
Solo camping on a river is a beast of its own, thanks for watching and I plan to keep on getting out there and learning as much about God’s green earth as I possibly can.
Lol fireants! Bane of my existence! I have scars all over my feet and legs from'em. It seems every riverbank in Texas has them now. It wasn't that way when I was a kid. Good video btw. You sure take a lot of gadgets. I've tried to film my kayak trips but just can't get into messin with the cameras all the time. I take a pole, a leatherman, a poncho and sleeping pad. You were supper comfy. 1 tip, point your rods backwards before going into current around trees. I liked the coyotes. They'll sing you to sleep. I heard a fox holler in there to. Ya don't gotta worry about them or snakes. The only way you'll ever get bit is if you mess with them. When I can't be on the river, I watch other people on the river on yt. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the kind words and the tip, I really did take a lot of stuff, haha. I just got a new tent and some smaller gear so my next trip might be more minimalist 👍
Great video. Just subscribed. I hope there's more to come. Im also a kayak fisher & been looking for some good camping spots here in texas.
I’m glad you enjoyed! Planning on a couple more trips this fall for sure! It helps me stay grounded, if you know what I mean
Did you find any?
Duuuuude!...Those cayote's would have made me pack up and anchor in the middle of the river and stretched out in my kayak....
🤣
Welcome to my backyard! Been down this river a few times, a beautiful trip, but hot under the sun in the summer.
It is soooooo hot right now! Been wanting to do the smithville float as well. Hopefully this fall.
Yeah, the time to do this is late fall, early winter where the temps are 70's for the high and 60's at night
Hey buddy how's you doing? Man what an awesome kayak camping trip you did. Look like a lot of fun you had by yourself. Me & my family loves to kayak camping. We wish that we could get payed to kayak camp full-time on the water man. That was a nice first fish you caught & that cat fish you caught on a top water was awesome man. Your camps spot was nice except for the fire ants. I am sorry to hear that they got you on your feet 🦶 & hands ✋️ man. I also hope your hands is OK from the hook that went into your hands ✋️. I wish I could go kayak camping right now but I am in a wheelchair for a while now & my Dr don't want me to walk around at all. Thanks you so much for making a kayak camping trip video for me to watch cuz I really really enjoyed watching you kayak camping. You & your family have a happy Thanksgiving holiday buddy. You take it easy buddy.
Thanks Mack, my hand is good, it only hurt for a minute. By the time i caught that second fish i had forgotten about it, haha. I hope you heal soon by next kayak camping season. It really is one of the best ways to connect to nature. I am still surprised i caught that cat on top, I bet those two i missed were cats too. CRAZY
That looked like a fun adventure.
It was for sure. I learned my lesson about lunch. If I catch an eater, put it on the stringer! haha.
That’s a fun trip! I like that route as well - lots of reel fishy spots. That city discharge right after 71 is always a great spot. And a catfish on topwater?….SICK!!
Niw how’s about a 2 nighter and take out in Smithville? 😬😳
That would be a challenge for sure! That catfish was awesome, too bad it wasn’t the first day.
Great video. Love the drone footage. Keep it up
Thanks for the kind words! I really enjoy making these camping videos. So much time and effort goes into making a trip like this happen. I wish i could do it more often.
Nice setup for the kayak. Cool adventure. Nice channel. New follower here. Crow✌️
Thanks! It was a really great trip. I’ll be sure to keep the first fish for lunch next time 🤣
Really enjoyed the video 🔥 I was wondering which dock/ place to you took off from to Bastrop? Planning on doing a trip soon and I’m not really sure where I should take off.
Thanks, for the kind words! It was a fun one to film for sure. I used the dock at fisherman’s park and took out at the Colorado river refuge.
Awesome video! Your channel looks really cool!! Just subbed too!👍
Thanks for the sub!
No problem!
I see you started a fishermans park where did you load back up? I’m wanting to do the same thing this year I’m out of Lockhart
Colorado river refuge in the back of Tahitian village. There is a service called pheonix adventures that can even pick you up if you need it.
Great video bud! Planning a trip for my brother birthday there. Do you still know the location where you docked off ?? Please and thank you
I camped a little less than half way through the trip.
