For a newbie, it is overwhelming to decide which size rings and beads to use. This is a really good tutorial and your bracelets are lovely. ❤ Thank you for the lesson! 🙂
This was so easy to make! I made a cute bracelet with bright silver 8mm rings, and seafoam colored 6mm rounds. It's spring-like and adorable! Thank you for the wonderful tutorial.
My boyfriend makes a lot of pretty complicated chain maille projects, and after watching the video together, while I was reading comments to him, he immediately said "Cowgirl and Antonietta both probably need to use a thicker gauge jump ring". In the video, they were talking about using a 19 gauge. You would be surprised how thick a 19 gauge is. Remember too, the larger the gauge #, the thinner the wire. A 24 gauge wire is quite a bit thinner than a 19 gauge wire. Good luck! Hope this helps.
If your beads are falling out, you may need to try slightly smaller or slightly thicker gauge jump rings. I haven't used this technique on pieces that small, so I can't say for certain what will work. You'll just need to experiment with the sizes.
Megan I just want to tell how much I enjoy your video tutorials. You're an excellent teacher! I try& watch all of them. I've learned so much. Thank you!
i strung my beads in the middle up the chain and they worked great! no loss of beads no matter what size. this is an awesome look and saves on bead use. thankyou for posting the vid.
I've usually found that if I'm using a thick enough jump ring, I don't really have a problem with them coming apart. Try to make sure that you are using a thicker gauge (especially with a larger jump ring) and they should be a little more sturdy.
Thanks, I've never done chainmail jewelry before, but this didn't seem terribly hard, and your instructions were clear, so I dove right in and made this! I can't show you a picture of the result because TH-cam doesn't allow URLs in comments, alas.
The shape and uniformity of the beads and rings can make a big difference in this technique. A round bead versus a faceted bead can require a completely different size or gauge ring. If the beads are falling out, I'd suggest experimenting with smaller rings or with a slightly thicker ring gauge.
The earrings are all done. I hung some copper washer shapes at the bottom and they came out really cool! This technique is so fun I wish I had more 8mm beads so I could make a whole bunch of things. I would do a necklace next! These segments have a really nice drape to them.
Lol. I will have to agree. I ask one woman who played very loud Christmas music, I asked very nicely if she could lower the sound because could hear nor see what she was making. :( She came back with the nasty oh! you don't like Christmas music! Which Yes. I love music but not at 75 percent sound.
Great tutorial. Really pretty design. Looks fun and like the pattern is basic Byzantine, except with large jump rings to accommodate the bead. I love and ah ha moment when I'm learning something new. Gonna make one of these bracelets tonight while I watch TV! TFS! Tip: When I do chain maille, I attach a jumbo paperclip onto the beginning rings. It gives something to hold onto in the beginning, esp. if the first couple are a smaller size like in this project.
Yes of course there are many possibilities. In this video for example we used a size 8mm bead, so you'll want to make sure the glass pearl beads you use are 8mm.
Thanks for sharing and the clear instructions! I am starting a new adventure working with jump rings and this looks like fun :) The part where you open the rings to add the bead makes me think of a four petal flower. So in my head I can help but think: "open the flower, insert bead, hug the bead, add a flower" You might think it's weird, but an analogy like this might help someone younger learn this. :)
14 gauge is quite a bit thicker than what I've used for this. That will mean you will need a smaller bead, yes. If the 8mm bead is working for you, and they aren't falling out, then that should work just fine. If you'd like to fit larger beads in there, you'll need to use a thinner gauge, maybe something closer to an 18.
We are also considering stringing the beads up the middle with a thin piece of semi translucent fireline cord. This would be so that the beads don't wiggle around and show their holes, not so much to keep them in, although it could help in that regard, too!
Yes, gauge is very important in chain maille techniques. For the 8mm beads, I used 10mm jump rings in 18 gauge. For the 6mm beads, I used 8mm jump rings in 19 gauge.
Hi,I so enjoyed this video, you explain everything so well and show everything slowly,so that newbies like myself can follow without getting lost.I am so looking forward to trying this out, just waiting on jump rings .Thanks again for sharing this video xx
Great tutorial ...I am sitting here on this beautiful Sat afternoon, making bracelets..i decided to experiment with spaces between a number of the beads, and that works too. Thankyou:)
As I said in the video, different beads and rings will have different results, and you may just need to try a few before you find the right fit. First, make sure that you're ring measurement is the outside diameter and not the inside diameter. Also, keep in mind that this will probably only work with round beads. After that, if your beads are falling out, try a slightly smaller ring.
I would recommend using a caliper to determine the size of the beads you're using. Then you'll have a better starting place for jump ring sizes to try. We carry jump rings in many sizes, and should have large enough ones for your beads. It is not only the ring diameter, but also the gauge (thickness) that can affect how the beads and rings work together. You could try using a thicker ring to see if that helps the beads stay in place.
I'm Fabiola, thanks for to teach ours this tecnique, you say very good how to make this beatifull bracelet. To much thanks , I'm from México. That God give to you a lot of creative and intelligent .You're a great person.
Thank you so much for this video.. you explained it so well.. I've tried this in the past because I love the look, but, had such a hard time, I gave up. I think I was using jump rings that were to small.. ready to give it another go!!
Thank you so much for uploading this video!! I nearly drove myself crazy trying to figure out how to do this on my own - it's so much simpler with your explanation!! I also think I was using the wrong size of beads and jump rings, which wasn't helping. Thanks again!
This is great! Thanks so much for this clear tutorial! I never realized it was so simple! Now you got me inspired! I'm going to make some things with this technique right away!
Wow you explained something that looks so complicated so easy to do! Awesome! Going to try this with smaller beads! Thanks for the great videos, you explain things so great! :-)
Glad you like this, it's a wonderful project for starting out with jump rings and chain maille. The necklace is one of our older projects so we don't carry all the materials for it anymore but we do have some more information on it here: beadaholique.com/products/retired-retired-captured-crystals-necklace
I tried this, with 4mm, 22 gauge jump rings. It didn't fit together very well, the jump rings were very tight. Going up to a 5mm jump ring, the beads fell right though. You could, of course, experiment to see what results you get.
They are called flat chain nose pliers. You can get them on Beadaholique . com's website. The links for the supplies in this video are located in the video description underneath this video.
I don't have any experience with soldering, so I'm not sure whether or not it would be possible. I haven't found this weave to need it, because the tension is distributed among several rings, they do not easily pull open.
I love this technique. very pretty. The only thing I would have to say I do not like is the bead hole thats visible with the lighter bead. It wasn't noticeable with the dark green beads. But otherwise awesome! Thanks for sharing. :-)
I got the 8 mm swarovski crystal pearls and the 10 mm 18 gauge jump rings, and they link together incredibly stiffly. I can barely force the two jump rings together when capturing a bead :(
This works well with either drilled/undrilled crystals and stones, and undrilled pearls. It doesn't work well with Swarovski pearls as they usually have at least one ugly side to the hole that must be hidden. When I've made this with Swarovski pearls, I've used silk bead cord to string the pearls so that the hole cannot turn and be visible.
Just the end bead falls out? Are you doing all four rings in the last link? And are you securing them with a smaller jump ring at the beginning and the end?
Your jump rings are coming open, or your beads are falling out? You might try using a thicker gauge jump ring, but I could better advise you if you give me more information about what the problem is.
My experience is different - even with 1mm difference the bead falls out. However it works perfect when the ring inner diameter is equal to the bead diameter
I had always thought this was so hard to do, but the way you've shown it... It's just sooo easy! :D Thank you!

This was the first piece of Chain Maille I have ever made & I love it lol I did mine with 8mm & 6mm red glass pearls ...so classy :) thank you xxx

Very nice tutorial and design; always fun to go out and see what other folks are doing well.

thank you for clear easy instructions! (and no annoyingly loud music!
I agree! some of these videos drive a person up the wall with their irritating background music.
Yes

I agree with you I have so many jump rings I haven't used yet
thanks please try to make more techniques with jump ring very soon i loved working with jump rings and the outcome was marvelous

Made it and I am getting many compliments, wish I could take a picture and paste here, but cant paste here. Thanks for the video.
So easy thank you! I’ve been out of my jewelry loop for a while and this gave me the confidence I needed again thanks! 🙏🏽🧡

You make this look so simple and explain it very well. Thank you for sharing, I can't wait to try this.
Happy to help Sandy! We'd love to see what you make, if you're following us on Facebook or Instagram that's a great place to share picture with us

Hello, how many mm rings should I use for 8mm beads?

Wow it's really simple! Before the tutorial even started I saw how to do it myself i saw the Pattern of the jump rings
LOVE this design...so delicate and elegant. Thanks for sharing.
Wot a fab video, I have never seen chainmaile like this. Very clear and concise videos as usual.
Great tutorial ...I am sitting here on this beautiful Sat afternoon, making bracelets..i decided to experiment with spaces between a number of the beads, and that works too. Thankyou:)

Yes, it is basically captive inverted roundmaille using beads in the middle instead of the double rings.
Simple but beautiful! Can't wait to try it. Thanks.

Excellent video, very useful!! Thank you very much!!! Greetings from Argentina.
Beautiful design!
Wowow this is really pretty and explained very well! I hope to try this sometime when i get the materials
I used 8mm, 19 gauge rings with my 6mm faceted round beads, and a 15mm clasp.
Is that an 8mm inner diameter or the Outer Diameter.
@@lynnswanson851 It is 8mm outer diameter. Thanks for watching!
I tried this, with 4mm, 22 gauge jump rings. It didn't fit together very well, the jump rings were very tight. Going up to a 5mm jump ring, the beads fell right though. You could, of course, experiment to see what results you get.
Awesome 👍
This is simplistic yet beautiful. I ant wait to try it!! Thanks for the video!
This is very nice. I think I will try it. Thanks for sharing.
I love this design!!
Oh, I almost forgot to ask if you could do a tutorial for captured oval beads when you get a chance. That would be really pretty!
I love this. ❤️ made one. Came out great. Awesome instructions ty
very nice u make something so complicated to look at so simple to make thank u
I would try using an 8mm jump ring, probably 19 or 20 gauge.
Try threading your beads on some fireline or similar after putting the jump rings on. It should prevent any escapes.

BTW..I love this video..outstanding and clear demonstration....thanks so much.
That's very cool. Thanks for the video.
and I have almost lost my nerves till I ve found the matching size of my pearls with the jumprings. gosh.
Thank you, that was great and I can't wait to try it out!!!! It really was easy to follow and also will be to do!!
How to take care of the silver plated jump rings, because they will be change color in the future? I love the tutorial & thanks.
Excellent tutoria.
AGAIN UR WORK IS BEAUTIFUL THANK U SO MUCH

Excellent!!
Thats awesome! Great video, very easy to follow.
i think i will have to make this as a present for my friend.
Great video!
Great Tut Thanks. Simple instruction clearly told.
fun stuff, I will have to buy rings for project 💛✌
