50 Years of Diesel Preservation - Severn Valley Railway - Spring Diesel Gala 2023 - 19-20/05/23

Celebrating 50 years of diesel locomotive preservation, the Severn Valley Railway's 2023 Spring Diesel Gala saw an eclectic mix of locomotives, spanning several decades from the 1960s to the present day.
Highlights of the event included LSL's ScotRail 'Push-Pull' set, complete with 47712 'Lady Diana Spencer', with the set coupled with various visiting air-braked locomotives throughout the event, including RailAdventure HST powercars 43484 and 43465, DRS Class 88 88004 'Pandora' and Class 57 57307 'Lady Penelope'. On the topic of HSTs, GWR Castle Set 43188 'Newport Castle' and 43186 'Taunton Castle' were in attendance, providing a rare opportunity to ride an in-service HST on a heritage line.
British Rail Class 42 D821 'Greyhound' and Class 33 33108 both performed with new liveries at the event, having recently been repainted into BR Blue and BR Civil Engineers 'Dutch' livery respectively. Other BR Diesels visiting the line included Class 37 37263 and Class 31 31270 'Athena', the latter performing her first trains in several years.
