You become way more rich in business and you need to be way more smart if you want to be a professional researcher. But in these nations you can't open a business without a lot of bribing to govt. officials and political leaders and science in this region mainly runs on foreign funding and results in publishing in American/European Journals - basically paper science. So few opportunities left to an ordinary person is to become a doctor or be a govt. bureaucrat. Laugh as much as you wish, but we live with this curse and it's hard to smile with it.

From personal experience - it is a LOT easier to be happy when you aren't worried about money! And my wife and I were following these guidelines long before you started to create the systematic approach. There was a time when we actually did the itemized budget, but it became ingrained, and we are both just really, really cheap, and saved. We had a few goals - pay off all credit card debt (Check - some thirty years ago, we paid them all off, and since then, we have only used them for convenience, and if you pay them off at the end of the month, NO interest!); pay off our residence (Check, but I'd do something different today, explained below); pay off our children's college debt (Check, and they both remain happy that unlike many of their peers, they have no outstanding loans); invest in a diversified portfolio (Check, I'm currently about 60% stock and 40% bonds, my wife is about 50/50); invest in real estate (Check - 3 rent houses and partial ownership of two apartment complexes); retire at 59 1/2 (Check, for me. My wife wants to continue to work to maximize her pension plan, and it helps with health insurance until we're eligible for MediCare.)
The only thing I would do differently looking back is to NOT pay off my residence (I wrote a check for ~$74K to payoff the loan as soon as I had saved it - side note, we had a separate account with the "emergency fund" of six months income that was NOT used in the loan payoff.) If I knew then what I know now, I would have used that $74K to buy another rental property or two, because passive cash flow, essentially tax-free, is a good thing.
One other thing that is anti-Ramsey, and maybe counter-intuitive for those that want to get into real estate. Once you pay off a credit card, do NOT cancel it, simply use it for convenience only and pay it off monthly (in other words, don't use it to extend your lifestyle.) The longer you have a given credit card, and the longer you continue to not be late on payments, you get a boost in your credit score. If you cancel a long-held card, perversely it usually lowers your credit score, and if you are looking to invest in real estate, you want the highest score you can get, so that you get the lowest mortgage rates. Ours is typically in the 820-830 range, even though I am "retired". Just checked (Creditkarma is free, and you can ignore their "offers" and emails) and still holding within that range on Transunion and Equifax.
Jaspreet, you're providing good guidance to folks looking to improve their financial lot in life.

Honestly, I gotta say that I am a big fan of yours Jaspreet. Everything on this channel is completely spot on and the logic behind everything you teach is completely sound! However, the vast majority of your insights are presented with a prominent, yet unspoken caveat - that the advice is only actively applicable if you have a reliable income stream that can cover your basic expenses while providing the excess funds to save and invest. True, those two are the critical basis for financial success that so many people fail to do - yet for so many the opportunity is simply not there. As such, I would humbly recommend releasing some videos tailoring this kind of advice to those at different income levels as well as some that focus on getting people to a place of financial security so that they can grow their wealth without risking the roof over their heads or the food on their tables. Thanks in advance if you happen to see this!

The only approach that ever worked for me is instead of depositing my pay into my checking account, I deposit elsewhere and only put a limited dollar amount into checking. Most companies will allow you to set up direct deposit with a dollar amount to one account, and the rest to a different account. I run my checking account on almost $0. If it is going to hit $0 then I know I've been spending too much.

I live with my grandparents, and they let me use their car, they pay for food(plus I work at a restaurant where I get free food), I’m still on my parents cell phone plan. I don’t have insurance of any kind. The only thing I spend money on is gas for their car.

My mom was a nurse and my dad did building maintenance fixing AC units. For a while I was working as a surgical technician at a major hospital in San Francisco while studying my pre-med classes to get into medical school. It soon became apparent that my family was more financially secure than a lot of the surgeons and doctors I worked with. I remeber growing up with my parents being very careful about every expense so they can afford their first 8 unit rental property in a developing area that is now known as Mill Valley. My father, brother and I would go and do the building upkeep and upgrades ourselves. My parents later acquired more and more properties. My mom was constantly reading about money, taxes and investments. And I did not appreciate how important their money management was until I saw that very respected professionals didn't have the resources we had. I am a doctor today because I love the work, but I am wiser about money management and investments than many of my colleagues thanks to my parents. I teach students at Stanford Medical School clinical medicine but often end up lecturing them about early financial planning and, while working, construction of a vibrant stock portfolio.
